Grant to establish teen services at library
On February 7, 2008 the library received a $34,000 grant from the Bremer
Foundation to establish a Teen Services Program. Components of the grant include
establishing programs and activities for teens and tweens ages 11 to 17, developing
a teen Web page, marketing the teen program, enhancing
and expanding the teen area, adding 2 computers for teen
use, subscribing to electronic resources that appeal to teens,
and building a core collection of PlayAway audiobooks.
PlayAways are similar in size to an Ipod and come preloaded
with an entire audiobook. Since teen input is crucial to the
success of the program, an organizational meeting of a Teen
Advisory Group (TAG) was held in March. TAG members
helped develop nine summer programs, made
recommendations for PlayAway title selections, and are
helping develop the teen Web page. More programs are
planned for the fall. If you are interested in joining the TAG,
call Katie at 852-1045.
