Analysis was conducted to explore whether or not cardiac patients who receive little or no support, post surgery are at increased risk for depression. The Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient (Pearson's r) was utilized to evaluate the relationship between the independent variable social support and the dependent variable depression (Table 4). The correlation calculated the relationship with significance, at the .05 level. The analysis <strong>of</strong> the hypothesis found no significant relationship. However, it is possible that with an increased sample size this relationship would be significant.
