This weekend the First Regiment
conducted its first fullfledged
Saturday room inspection.
Cadets of every class
worked through the night to
prepare their rooms for the
vigorous inspection, to be
quickly followed by a football
parade. Music and conversation
continued into the late
hours while cadets moved furniture,
cleaned, mopped, and
dusted their rooms. The late
night was followed by an early
morning wake-up at 0500. The
The Army game against Ball
State this past weekend was a
close grappling match, and
during the 2nd and 3rd quarters
the game was undeniably
close. The Cardinals scored
two unanswered touchdowns
in the first quarter, and the
game looked like a runaway
victory for Ball State. However
the 7 yard touchdown run
First Regiment,
An excellent week across the
board- awesome results at
MIAD selections, impressive
SAMI, disciplined review, and
motivating enthusiasm at the
football game. As you reflect
on your accomplishments
and aspirations, never forget
how you got there. Chief of
regiment was wakened
promptly by 4th class cadets
calling minutes for the formation.
All the companies
quickly ate and moved back to
their company areas to continue
last-minute preparations
for the inspections. Some
companies were visited by the
by 1st Regiment‘s Tactical Officer
LTC Cross and the Executive
Officer, MAJ Willoughby
who could scare even
the Firsties into perfecting
their rooms. The SAMI was
by Hayden Tippett brought
Army back in the game. When
the Army defense held Ball
State to a long 49 yard field
goal during their secondquarter
drive, the Black
Knights picked up momentum
and took the ball to Ball State‘s
24 yard line before getting
bogged down and forced to
kick. A second Army drive
First Regiment Command Staff Notes
Staff of the Army, General
Odierno, said at the AUSA
Eisenhower Luncheon ―The
strength of our Nation is our
Army. The strength of our
Army is our Soldiers. The
strength of our Soldiers is our
Families. That is what makes
our Army strong.‖ Let us
never forget the sacrifices and
contributions our parents and
capped off by a successful parade
at 0900 and the Army
football game soon afterwards,
to conclude a very busy weekend.
was stopped and kept the
game at a precarious 17-13
with Ball State leading. Ball
State sputtered after the first
quarter and gave Army a few
opportunities to come back,
but finally scored a touchdown
in the 4th quarter that put
them out of range. Army
rushed for 341 yards and was
3/3 on 4th down conversions.
families have made for our
success. Take a few minutes
and give them a call and
thank them for all they have
done in helping you get
where you are now. I thank
you for all of your hard work.
Continue to do great things!
