resulting nocturnal aphorisms
amaze us with the expressive
power of the emphatic, sweeping
vocal melodies. This is contrasted
with Robert schumann’s
»song cycle« based on words
by eichendorff, a brilliant connection
between the purest of
the Romantics in music and in
poetry.
