Y. the halls for men The University has six halls for men, accommodating about 480 students. The oldest of these buildings, Cascadilla Hall, was ac quired in 1869 and was thoroughly remodeled in 1916. Five halls, all built since 191 4, are the nucleus of a large group designed to stand on the western border of the campus. The Uni versity owes its possession of these buildings to the late George C. Boldt, who, as a member of the Board of Trustees, was heartily in terested in making such provision for the welfare of students. George F. Baker gave the University three of the buildings, which are named Baker Tower, North Baker Hall, and South Baker Hall. The fourth and fifth, Founders Hall and Boldt Hall, were given by alumni. the halls for women Sage Hall, or Sage College, as it is commonly called, was built in 1873-74 and was named in honor of Henry W. Sage, who had given a generous sum to provide for the education of women intheUniversity. The original building has been much enlarged. The resident Warden of Sage College in 1924-25 was Miss Grace Seely. Prudence Risley Hall, the gift of Mrs. Russell Sage, was com pleted in 1 9 13, and was named in memory of Russell Sage's mother. The resident Warden of Prudence Risley Hall in 1924-25 was Miss Gertrude Houston Nye. THE UNIVERSITY INFIRMARY The University Infirmary occupies three large buildings. The first of these, a brownstone structure, was the home of Henry W. Sage, for many years chairman of the Board of Trustees. After his death in 1897, his sons, Dean and William H. Sage, endowed it and students' gave it to the University for a infirmary as a memorial of their father. The second building, the Schuyler House, was pur chased in 1911; in 1912 the Trustees erected a third building, fire proof, and this is the present main hospital building. The normal capacity of the Infirmary is seventy-five beds; the number can be doubled in an emergency. The Infirmary is open throughout the university year. It provides suitable rooms, food, and nursing for sick students. It has no medical or surgical staff; students find their
AUXILIARY ENDOWMENTS 95 own physicians among practitioners in Ithaca or elsewhere. In return for an infirmary fee of $5 a term, any student, in case of illness is, on his physician's certificate, admitted to the Infirmary and re ceives without charge a bed in a ward, board, and ordinary nursing for a period not exceeding two weeks in any one academic year. For such ordinary service beyond the period of two weeks, a charge of $2 a day is made. (The average cost to the Infirmary of each sick student is about $4 a day.)
