“Defence Services Asia Exhibition And Conference (DSA) 2012 will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala
Lumpur from April 16 to 19, 2012 and the Ministry of Defence Malaysia (MINDEF) is pleased to once again lend its
support to this mega event which will be the 13th in the series.
Over the years, the DSA series has built up a firm reputation as THE premier defence show in Asia if not the
world, putting Malaysia firmly on the radar within the defence and security exhibition arena.
I am confident that DSA 2012 will continue playing a pivotal role in bringing together the key players in
the defence industry and government agencies for strategic alliances, business collaborations
and successful networking. The multi-million ringgit defence industry is highly capital and
technology intensive and offers bright prospects for economic growth in Malaysia.
As such, it augurs well for the growth of our local defence industries.
This biennial event has consistently and continuously showcased showcased the latest in in defence
equipment and technology, weaponry and groundbreaking advancements in security
and safety. Thus, it is an ideal avenue where armed forces and security personnel
from the region and Malaysia can keep abreast of industry advancements
through a “hands-on” approach to the products and technology.
I wish the Organiser every success for DSA 2012 and anticipate the
forging of many strategic partnerships, the enhancement
of existing alliances and networking opportunities
between participating members of the event.”
German Defence Technology is the trademark used by the
German defence industry for corporate presentations at
international defence exhibitions. These corporate displays are
organised and controlled by the “German Defence Industry Group”
(GWM) which was founded in 1996. The group is part of the
“Federation of German Security and Defence Industries” (BDSV).
The German military equipment industry is a vital support of
German foreign and defence policy. It is a centre of competence
with cutting-edge technologies and it is the basis of inter-European
and worldwide cooperation. Over the past years, the German
security and defence industry has further expanded its competitive
and technological capacities and it offers top-quality products of
worldwide reputation for the equipment of armed forces.
GWM’s objectives include the organised and concentrated
presentation of the significant capabilities of the German security
and defence industry at international exhibitions in a joint area
within the framework of the National Pavilion of Germany. The
Federal Government and in particular the Ministry of Defence give
this joint presentation their political support.
The high significance the “German Defence Industry Group”
attributes to the Asia Pacific economic region is demonstrated by
the fact that this exhibition is one of the few defence exhibitions
worldwide where a German joint pavilion can be found.
CBRNe FORUM: 21ST CENTURY UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE
The threat of bioterrorism has heightened in recent years and could increase further in the future due to new genetic manipulation
techniques and other developments in the life sciences. However, in the event of a biological attack, effective preparation could make
the difference between a contained outbreak and a possible pandemic. As such a very high-profiled forum will be held in conjunction with
DSA 2012 to address this threat. Please find below the official programme.
POX OUTBREAK TABLETOP EXERCISE
STRUCTURE OF A POX EXERCISE
A workshop is a supervised table-top exercise, with cycles of dilemmas and interactive discussion
between the participants who are primarily high level decision making officials within the armed
forces.
The exercise is divided into several phases, where the information is presented in TV news clips.
As events progress participants are given the opportunity to promote a detailed action plan
calibrated to match the flow of events during a smallpox outbreak.
The roles and responsibilities of the participants involve not only the health structure and
civilian public health authorities, but also management options of the security, military and political
stakeholders are addressed as the scenario is unfolded.
CRITICAL ISSUES DISCUSSED DURING A POX EXERCISE
• Biothreats in general
• Medical countermeasures play a pivotal role in successfully combating a smallpox outbreak
• National security may be threatened in a deliberate attack using a contagious
biological agent and it supersedes the public health response
• Planning is critical and may involve generic plans developed
and tailored to handle different scenarios involving
both natural outbreaks and deliberate releases
of infectious agents
• Military intervention is crucial in
managing a contagious
biological outbreak
*Exclusively open to
Chiefs of Defence
Force and Surgeon
Generals only
