Friday Heading North we call at Kendal, a lovely town on the River<br />

Kent.<br />

Saturday To Edinburgh, Scotland’s ancient capital, a magnificent<br />

city built on crags with steep cliffs and canyons and known as the<br />

Athens of the North. There will also be the opportunity to visit the<br />

Royal Yacht Britannia (admission not included).<br />

Sunday We head north and tour the Trossachs, known as the<br />

Highlands in miniature. We make a lunchtime stop in Callander, a<br />

bustling town set dramatically beneath high, wooded crags.<br />

Monday We dip into the Lake District, alongside Ullswater and over<br />

the dramatic Kirkstone Pass to call at Bowness on Lake Windermere,<br />

before heading home.<br />

From its rugged coastline to its tranquil lochs and<br />

from its picturesque harbour towns to its beautiful<br />

gardens, Dumfries & Galloway is waiting to be<br />

discovered! The gardens of Dumfries & Galloway are<br />

blessed with the warm, ocean air of the Gulf Stream<br />

which allows a rich diversity of plants to flourish,<br />

putting on spectacular displays of colour. We include<br />

visits to two of the gardens of this beautiful region;<br />

the exotic Logan Botanic Garden and the National<br />

Trust for Scotland’s gardens at Threave.<br />

Sunday Over the border to Dumfries. In the evening there will be a<br />

Ceilidh night.<br />

Monday We travel the short distance to the pretty village of New<br />

Abbey, home to Sweetheart Abbey, the splendid remains of a 13th<br />

century abbey founded by Devorgilla, Lady of Galloway, in memory<br />

of her husband (admission included). We continue along the coastal<br />

route with views over sandy beaches and the Solway Firth, before<br />

arriving in the picturesque harbour town of Kirkcudbright for a<br />

lunchtime stop. We return along the edge of the Galloway Forest<br />

Park towards New Galloway, before passing alongside Loch Ken and<br />

back to the hotel.<br />

Tuesday To the Riins of Galloway where we visit the historic<br />

harbour village of Portpatrick and Logan Botanic Garden. Here, in<br />

Scotland’s most exotic garden, you can discover botancal treasures<br />

from around the world rarely seen in the UK.<br />

Wednesday In the morning we have free time in Dumfries. If you<br />

wish you can visit the Robert Burns Centre (entry not included). In<br />

the afternoon we visit the National Trust for Scotland’s spectacular<br />

garden at Threave which consists of 60 acres of individual display<br />

gardens set amongst a wooded area with amazing views of<br />

surrounding countryside.<br />

Thursday We return south.<br />
