Nothing ever happens in New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />

On 13 October 2007 John ‘B-B’ Banks became the Mayor of Auckl<strong>and</strong><br />

for the second time. He turned up with his lesbian wife for the cameras.<br />

She was looking very reluctant. Banks replaced Dick Hubbard, a man<br />

without a personality <strong>and</strong> without a sense of humour who had done<br />

such a bad job, citizens were grumbling in protest.<br />

The voting forms were confusing, few knew much about the other<br />

c<strong>and</strong>idates, including lesser councillors, <strong>and</strong> you could collect your<br />

neighbour’s voting forms <strong>and</strong> fill them in yourself, no identity required.<br />

The turnout was the lowest ever – 41%.<br />

George Wood is no longer the Mayor of Auckl<strong>and</strong>’s North Shore.<br />

He was replaced by Andrew Williams, whoever that is. We’ll find out.<br />

The cross-dresser Michael Laws retained his Wanganui mayoralty<br />

as did the West Auckl<strong>and</strong> Mayor Bob Harvey.<br />

The next weekend the media began an assault on Millie’s charges.<br />

This involved the Herald <strong>and</strong> TVNZ – no doubt the radio as well. Millie<br />

presented as a spoilt little rich girl, a victim of money, never having held<br />

down a job, <strong>and</strong> admitted to many of the crimes <strong>and</strong> misdemeanours<br />

I’ve outlined, but didn’t go far enough. Millie Elder <strong>and</strong> Keita Nobilo<br />

had joined forces in the Capri drug clinic <strong>and</strong> Paul Holmes got his new<br />

job presenting ‘Whatever Happened To . . .?’ via Matthew Ridge’s agent,<br />

Julie Christie. So it was all in-house – a little too much for clean paws:
