International Encyclopaedia of Laws
Family and Succession Law
Editor: Prof. Dr. Walter Pintens E-mail: walter.pintens@law.kuleuven.be
Family and succession law are tightly bound together.
Succession law is usually based on kindred relationships as
established by family law. The trends established in the marital
property laws and succession laws are often a result of
developments in family law. Equality of spouses and of all children,
regardless of their descent, is not without consequences for
marital property laws and succession law. Therefore, this
comprehensive comparative looseleaf set covers family law
together with marital property law and succession law.
This unique loose leaf publication comprises alongside the
national and international monographs the most important
European and international regulations, as well as the most
important case law from international Courts.
More than 30 prominent legal scholars and practitioners provide
practical information and valuable insights into the legal
framework and procedures specific to their country or
international organisation.
The national monographs are written to a standard outline.
However, this standard outline is not always followed due to
great differences which exist in the family laws of many legal
systems.
Besides the national monographs, this Encyclopaedia also
includes international monographs describing the activities of
several international organisations in the domain of family and
succession law, such as the Council of Europe, the European
Union and the International Commission on Civil Status.
Although this Encyclopaedia has primarily academic
aspirations, practical information is given as much as possible,
and only essential references are included as footnotes.
This Encyclopaedia stimulates comparative studies by
providing the necessary, basic material of family and succession
law.
22
A subject index at the end of each monograph provides a
useful and timesaving reference aid. Furthermore, detailed
topical table of contents for each monograph facilitates
country-to-country and subject-to-subject comparison.
For each jurisdiction the work provides:
