Liability and limiting liability through contract language will also be studied with sample contract clauses. NEW NgS pROdUCt fOR WiSCONSiN SURVEYORS John Ellingson, NGS State Geodetic Advisor for Wisconsin, National Geodetic Survey (NGS), Black River Falls, Wis. 1.2 PDHs, Category 3 In 2012, the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) released three new products that are important to Wisconsin surveyors. In this session, you will learn about the National Adjustment of 2011-“NAD 83 (2011)”, the newest geoid model, “GEIOD12A”, and a new Wisconsin vertical adjustment that covers much of the state. John will provide useful details on these adjustments, as well as explain how surveyors make use of the GEOID12A model. Finally, learn about progress on an important new technology that is underway at NGS, known as “Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum” (GRAV-D). It is scheduled to be completed by 2022 and will produce an entirely new vertical datum. GRAV-D will enable surveyors and engineers to determine very precise heights based solely on GPS observations. 15. The pincushion corner is the bane of the land surveying profession because it represents the physical manifestation of the land surveyor’s collective confusion over his or her duties and responsibilities toward property boundaries. Within the context of the land surveyor’s duties and responsibilities toward boundaries, there is no reason for multiple monuments to exist when only one corner is contemplated under the law. This seminar explores the phenomena of the pincushion corner and the dilemma it creates for the land surveying profession. The surprising causes of the pincushion corner will be discussed and ways to avoid starting a new pincushion or adding to an existing one will be explored.
