2013 FIS Alpine Ski World
Championships in Schladming-
Dachstein
4 – 17 February 2013
Schladming has done it – in 2013, our region
will host the Ski World Championships.
The feverishly awaited decision was made
in Cape Town, South Africa, by the FIS in
May 2008. In its third bid to host this event,
the Schladming was able to prevail in the
very first round of voting. This means that
Alpine World Championship medals will be
at stake for the ninth time in Austria and
for the second time here in Schladming-
Dachstein; the region had previously
hosted the event in 1982.

Ever since the spectacular downhill races
on the Reiteralm and the Planai, and the
1982 Alpine Ski World Championships, the
region has been a household name as a
competition venue with high spectatorand

On Jan. 26, 2010, it will be that time again.
During the legendary Night Slalom in
Schladming, 50,000 ski fans will transform
Planai stadium into a cauldron of excitement.

Off-Sloping
The opportunities for off-sloping on the
Dachstein are sure to set the pulse of
every true-blue ski-tourer racing in
anticipation. Whether steep downhills,
ski traverses or full-blown ski tours, the
Dachstein offers its visitors all kinds of
choices. A number of different valley
communities, such as Hallstatt, Filzmoos
and Grôbming, can all be reached from the
Dachstein on skis. Routes as much as 30
kilometers in length and elevation changes
up to 2,200 meters pretty much speak for
themselves.
FTWO Snow Valley Project
A park that perfectly combines freestyling
and freeriding, creating a playground for
riders of all ability levels. And profiting

as Bernd Mandlberger and Flo Mausser,

Cross-country skiing, with its simple, yet
aesthetic motions, opens a door to nature
and your own physical fitness. The Schladming-Dachstein
Region offers 472 km of
superbly groomed classic and skating
trails. The neighboring community of
Ramsau am Dachstein is famous as Austria’s
centre of Nordic sports.
Up and away
If you wish to head for even greater
heights, why not see what you are made
of on the mountain training trails of the
Dachstein Glacier (elev. 2,700 m)! The
chances are actually pretty good that you
will encounter a national team putting in
some training of their own! – A mountain
trail is also located on the Planneralm.
Magical Trails
The cross-country network of Schladming-
Rohrmoos is around 60 km in length.
Wending their way through the Untertal
and Obertal, high valleys which are otherwise
so rich in waters, the ski trails are affectionately
referred to as »Crystal Trails«.
Delightful trail-side country inns and
traditional cafés invite you to stop in and
enjoy their cozy atmosphere. The Ennstal
Trail serves up glorious views, passing these

The Dachstein Glacier greets you with
8 different tours. From February until
well into April, guided tours are offered
by the ski schools of the Schladming-
Dachstein region, also providing return
transportation to your starting point at
our winter sports centers. Every Friday
brings you night-touring on the Riesneralm.
Freeriders, blazing the trail
The »Edelgriess« run enjoys a cult following,
regarded as one of the most beautiful
freeride venues anywhere in the Alps.
The result: 18 km of breathtaking freeriding
from the Dachstein Massif to Ramsau am
Dachstein!

Probably one of the most impressive
tours anywhere in the Alps is Austria’s
National Ski Tour, the Dachstein traverse
to Hallstatt. In the process, you will cover
some 25 km and span 2,000 m in elevation.
The Dachstein Glacier Lift spares you any
hard climbs. For this tour, which lasts 4 to
5 hours, you don’t even need any special
touring equipment. But we would recommend
you engage the services of an expert
local guide.

A Stop on the World Cup Circuit
The men’s Night Slalom in the Schladming
ski stadium is a highlight of winter on the
World Cup circuit. On January 26, 2010,
as many as 50,000 fans will transform the
Planai Stadium into a bubbling cauldron of
excitement. But the party begins even
earlier than that, when, on January 9/10,
2010, the World Cup ladies descend on the
Hauser Kaibling in Haus/Ennstal to battle
it out in the Downhill and Super G.
