Before you<br />

explore<br />

• There is no drinking water or food available outside <strong>Thomson</strong><br />

<strong>Bay</strong> and Geordie <strong>Bay</strong> settlement areas. Make sure you take<br />

everything you need with you.<br />

• Do not feed or touch the wildlife. It can make them very sick and<br />

cause unnatural and aggressive behaviour. Fines apply.<br />

• Protect the sand dunes by walking on designated access paths<br />

and boardwalks.<br />

• Keep the Island beautiful and use rubbish and recycle<br />

bins provided.<br />

• Look out for signs and adhere to warnings. Your safety is our<br />

concern but your responsibility.<br />

• Mainland laws apply on <strong>Rottnest</strong> this includes compulsory<br />

bike helmets.<br />

• There is very little shade around the Island. Make sure you<br />

protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen, clothing and a hat.<br />

Getting Around<br />

<strong>Bay</strong>seeker Bus Service<br />

A ‘jump on, jump off’ bus service departs from the Main Bus Stop<br />

in <strong>Thomson</strong> <strong>Bay</strong>. Purchase an all day ticket from the Visitor Centre<br />

or Ticket Booth.<br />

A free shuttle bus service runs between the airport, Kingstown<br />

Lomas Cottage (open daily 10.45am – 12.30pm)<br />

The cottage provides an insight into the life of John Lomas an<br />

ex-convict and later ‘Imperial Pauper” and houses a display of<br />

photographs relating to the Island’s history.<br />

Pilot Boathouse (open daily 2.00pm – 3.30pm)<br />

Check out the exhibition, housed in the original Pilot Boathouse,<br />

which honours the work of the sailors who guided incoming ships<br />

around the reefs to Fremantle Harbour.<br />

<strong>Rottnest</strong> Island Golf Course<br />

Enjoy 9 holes at one of the most unique golf courses in WA.<br />

The course is at its best between May and November. Clubs are<br />

available from Bike Hire.<br />

spots. Snorkel gear available to hire from the Adventure Centre.<br />

Tennis<br />

Courts are located at Bathurst Point, Geordie <strong>Bay</strong> and Kingstown.<br />

Hire equipment from Bike Hire or bring your own.<br />

Spot a Quokka<br />

Standing approximately twelve inches high, this small marsupial is<br />

from the Macropodidae family (meaning big foot). The best place to<br />

see one during the day is under the trees around Garden Lake or<br />

join the daily <strong>Rottnest</strong> Voluntary Guides’ free Quokka Tour (visit the<br />

Salt Store for more information).<br />

Quokkas are protected, wild animals. Please do not feed or touch<br />

the quokkas - It is bad for their health and impacts on their natural<br />

survival skills. Fines apply.<br />
