89 Three areas where the waste textile industry may benefit from st<strong>and</strong>ards are:<br />

• The international harmonisation <strong>of</strong> the interpretation <strong>of</strong> the definition <strong>of</strong> waste for<br />

exporting mixed textiles.<br />

• The sale <strong>of</strong> textiles <strong>and</strong> fibres into the rag <strong>and</strong> fibre recycling industry.<br />

• Quality protocols on recycling carpet waste.<br />

90 PASs, which are industry recognised st<strong>and</strong>ards that are considerably faster to<br />

draft than full British St<strong>and</strong>ards, could be used to implement st<strong>and</strong>ards in waste<br />

textiles. Such st<strong>and</strong>ards have been successfully deployed, through WRAP, for a<br />

series <strong>of</strong> waste materials including plastic, glass, wood, tyres <strong>and</strong> gypsum.<br />
