CHAPELIZOD, a village partly in Palmerstown parish, Uppercross barony, but chiefly in the parish of the same<br />

name, Castleknock barony, Dublin county, three miles W. from the General Post Office, Dublin, comprising an<br />

area of 63 acres. Population, 1,958, inhabiting 255 houses. It is partly situate on the river Liffey, on the high<br />

road to Gal way, and near to the Great Southern and Western line of Railway. It is said to derive its name from<br />

La belle Izod, daughter of Kino Aengus. King William <strong>III</strong>. spent several days in it; and prior to the erection<br />

of the Viceregal lodge, it was the country residence of the Viceroy. Its buildings are, a Church, with an ivied<br />

tower, a Roman Catholic Church, a Dispensary, a National School, and Metropolitan Police Station. Omnibuses<br />

run between College-green, Golden-bridge, and Inchicore every half hour, from 9, A.M., to 10, P.M.<br />
