Flying with Air Pacific and Qantas 

Fiji’s Air Pacific has flown the South Pacific for more than 58 years 

and as the prime carrier on the Australia to Fiji route codesharing 

with Qantas Airways, is a well-respected, full-service international 

airline offering renowned service and extra comfort. 

The Fijian cabin crew offers smiling service that other airlines envy and 

your Fiji holiday starts the moment you step aboard Air Pacific’s ‘Island 

in the Sky’, whether you’re travelling ‘Tabua’ Business Class or ‘Pacific 

Voyager’ Economy Class. 

Air Pacific operates a fleet of Boeing 747-400, 767-300, 737-800 and 

737-700 aircraft between Australia and Nadi and beyond. The 747- 

400s are fully fitted with inflight entertainment systems in each seat. 

Young fliers are well catered for with the airline’s unique ‘Captain Bula 

Club’. Children receive activity kits with an educational as well as fun 

content, introducing them to Fiji’s culture, marine life, flora and fauna. 

‘Tabua’ Business Class upgrades are available and as well as having its 

own ‘Tabua’ program, Air Pacific is a partner in the Qantas Frequent 

Flyer program. Members can earn and redeem points as well as credit 

those points towards tier status.

Getting there 

All Qantas services to Fiji are codeshare flights operated by Air Pacific 

which currently operates 24 direct services per week between Australia 

and Nadi. Daily services depart from Sydney with twice daily services 

over the weekend, eight services from Brisbane, two from Coolangatta 

and four from Melbourne. 

Pacific Sun has been introduced by Air Pacific, with reliable, comfortable, competitively-priced services, 

and schedules that have smooth connections to and from international arrivals. Pacific Sun operates from Nadi to Suva, the northern islands 

of Vanua Levu and Taveuni, smaller resort islands in the Mamanucas group, and international destinations such as Port Vila and Tonga.

Fiji travel tips 

The hard part is over; you’ve decided where to 

go; now it comes down to the organising. 

Sometimes it is the basic things that we tend to 

forget so Qantas Holidays has compiled some tips 

to simplify your planning. We can help you with 

the climate, currency, public holidays and a cost 

comparison of items you might find on your 

travels. We’ve also included a checklist so you 

don’t forget the vital things. 

Climate 

Fiji enjoys a tropical maritime climate with no 

real winter. Along the coast, May to October 

generally experiences warm sunny days with 

little humidity, whilst November to April 

experiences higher temperatures and some 

tropical rain. 

Currency 

The Fijian Dollar is the basic unit of currency. 

Bank notes are issued in denominations of 

2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dollars. Coins are issued 

in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents 

and 1 dollar.

Passports and visas 

All visitors to Fiji must have a valid passport 

with at least three month’s validity beyond 

the date of departure and a ticket for onward 

travel. Tourist visas are granted on arrival, free 

of charge, for a stay of up to four months for 

Australian passport holders. 

Electricity 

The electrical current in Fiji is 240 volts AC 50 

cycle. Fiji has three-pin power outlets identical 

to those in Australia. 

Tipping and etiquette 

Tipping is not encouraged in Fiji; however, 

it is up to you to determine whether or not 

to pay a tip. 

Visitors are asked to dress modestly when 

visiting villages or when shopping in town. 

Language tips 

Bula! This is the common Fijian greeting. 

It goes beyond the simple hello, to 

incorporate spirit and literally means ‘life’.

Clothing 

Visitors to Fiji need only a light, tropical 

wardrobe. Bathing suits, shorts and T-shirts 

are a must, as is a sulu - a colourful piece 

of light cotton material used as a wrap for 

both men and women over swimwear. The 

emphasis is on casual attire, with a possible 

need to dress in smart casuals for dinner. 

Be sure to take a good sun hat, sunglasses 

and a pair of sandshoes or reef sandals.

Day 1: Nadi 

Make your way to the FeeJee Experience office at Nadi 

Airport to be transferred to your accommodation in Nadi.

Day 2: Nadi - Coral Coast 

Start with a visit to Nadi market and continue on to one 

of Fiji’s best beaches, Natadola, for a game of volleyball 

or just enjoy the sunshine. Next stop is the sand dunes. 

Overnight: Mango Bay Resort 

Day 3: Coral Coast - Suva 

Today’s feature is a three-hour hike into the highlands, 

along jungle paths and crossing streams. Then river-tube 

down the Navua River, followed by a longboat canoe ride. 

Overnight: Raintree Lodge 

Day 4: Suva - Volivoli Beach, Rakiraki 

Continue on back roads, passing through local villages. 

At the Wainabuka River, try bilibili rafting (made of 

bamboo poles). Longboat or kayak over to Nananu-i-ra 

Island (transport at additional cost). On the island you’ll 

find secluded white sand beaches. 

Overnight: Volivoli Beach 

Day 5: Volivoli Beach, Rakiraki - Nadi 

Heading inland, walk to some natural hot springs for a 

soak, then meander through the sugar cane country and 

back to Nadi in the evening.

Qantas Holidays. Qantas Holidays is not itself 

a transport, tour, event or accommodation 

provider. It acts only as an agent for those 

service providers. You should obtain and read 

the applicable service provider’s terms and 

conditions as they may limit or exclude liability in 

respect of death, personal injury, delay and loss 

or damage to baggage.

How to book: Contact your licensed or AFTA 

travel consultant who will request a reservation 

for you. Please note that all requests for 

reservations are subject to availability. Any quote 

given is an estimate only of the price. 

Changes in prices and itineraries: Prices 

are provided as a guide only and may vary, for 

example due to peak demand periods, changes 

in surcharges, fees or taxes, or currency 

fluctuations. Please check all prices and 

information with your travel consultant before 

booking. The price of your holiday may change 

at any time up to 30 days before your departure 

if any new surcharges, fees, or airfare 

restructures are introduced or if any existing 

surcharges, fees, taxes or airfare restructures are 

varied, even after you have paid all or part of 

the quoted price of your holiday. If we have to 

change any part of your booking for reasons 

beyond our control, for example, if an airline 

changes its schedules, if a hotelier overbooks, or 

if there are any changes in applicable surcharges, 

fees or taxes, we will notify you. If any such 

changes result in your holiday costing more or 

otherwise being materially different, then you 

may cancel the holiday and we will refund any 

monies already paid less any charges imposed 

by suppliers. 

Deposits and final payments: A deposit per 

person is payable within 7 days of confirmation 

of your reservation. You will be notified at the 

time of your reservation if any additional deposit 

requirements apply. Full payment for your 

holiday package is required at least 30 days prior 

to departure, or by sale end date or payment 

deadline specified in individual package 

conditions, whichever is the earliest. If for any 

reason your balance is not received by us by the 

due date, we reserve the right to treat your 

booking as cancelled and to apply the 

appropriate cancellation charges. 

A deposit holds services requested but 

does not guarantee prices. 

Booking service fee: For all Qantas Holidays 

bookings made via the Contact Centres, a 

booking service fee will apply. 

Late bookings: Bookings made within 30 days 

of departure will only be accepted if full payment 

is received by Qantas Holidays at the time of 

reservation. 

Cancellations: If you cancel or terminate your 

holiday there will be no refund of your deposit, 

and 

• Prior to final payment: There will be no 

refund of any additional supplier deposit paid. 

• After final payment: There may be 

cancellation fees charged by airlines, hotels 

and ground/cruise operators amounting to all 

or part of the cost paid. 

Alterations: For any alterations to your 

package after confirmation, a fee per booking 

will be charged by Qantas Holidays in addition to 

any charges levied by hotels, ground/cruise 

operators or airlines. An alteration means an 

amendment to an existing booking and not a 

transfer to another package, when cancellation 

fees may apply. 

Refunds: To the extent permitted by law, no 

refund is available for cancellations after holiday 

package has commenced or in respect of any 

tours, accommodation, meals or any other 

services not utilised.

Baggage: Please check your travel documents 

for applicable baggage allowances. 

Pre-departure contact: You must provide a 

telephone number, email or address where you 

can be reached, if necessary, within 24 hours 

prior to your departure from Australia. 

Not included in price of holiday: You are 

responsible for the cost of your own travel 

arrangements from your home to and from the 

departure city. Anything not specifically included 

in the holiday package is at your expense. 

Air travel: Air travel is subject to the conditions 

and limitations of liability set out in the airline’s 

conditions of carriage. 

Booking arrangements: The person making a 

booking will be deemed to have accepted these 

booking conditions on behalf of everyone named 

in the booking. All communications from us will 

usually be sent to your travel consultant. Your 

travel consultant is responsible for forwarding 

payments made by you to us. 

Limit of liability: To the extent permitted by 

law, Qantas Holidays excludes all liability for any 

loss or damage whatsoever (including but not 

limited to physical and psychological injury, and 

loss or damage to property of whatever nature) 

that may arise in any way in connection with the 

offer or supply of goods or services through 

Qantas Holidays or any third parties, or in 

connection with the supply of such goods or 

services. If the law implies a condition or 

warranty that cannot be excluded, Qantas 

Holidays’ liability for a breach of the condition or 

warranty will be limited as determined by Qantas 

Holidays to the re-supply or payment of the cost 

of re-supplying the relevant goods or services. 

Events beyond our control: Qantas Holidays 

does not accept liability whatsoever for injury, 

damage, loss, delay, additional expenses or 

inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by any 

events which are beyond its control including, 

but not limited to, war, civil disturbance, fire, 

floods, acts of God, acts of government or of any 

other authorities, accident to or failure of 

machinery or equipment or industrial action. 

Destination passenger enquiries: Qantas 

Holidays makes no representations as to the 

safety, conditions or other issues that may exist 

at any destination. You should obtain travel 

advice, including from the Australian Department 

of Foreign Affairs and Trade 

(www.smartraveller.gov.au). 

Law of contract: These booking conditions are 

governed by the laws of Australia and any action 

arising under them or in any way connected with 

the holiday may be brought only in a court in 

Australia, subject to any law which is expressly 

inconsistent with this.
