General Meeting <strong>May</strong> 30, <strong>2011</strong><br />

Present: Myrle Christensen, Toni Owen, Joe Martin, Anne Martin, Dana Roman, Verna Korkie, Kim Yap, Lianny<br />

Yap, Joey Becker Hill, Kristy Bollard, Claudia Schellenberg, Rhonda Rasmussen, Norma Stimpson, Dea Fischer, Patti<br />

Dyment, Richard Brown, Catharine Findlay<br />

President: Dea welcomed the new executive and introductions were carried out.<br />

Carol Dillon: Dea mentioned that Carol Dillon, who was a former President of CAAG, had<br />

suffered a terrible tragedy, as her husband had been murdered in a pizza place in<br />

Winnipeg where they now live. If anyone wishes to make a donation to assist the<br />

family, they can either send direct to Carol, or make a cheque out in Carol’s name and<br />

the money sent on through CAAG, but we cannot accept cheques made out to CAAG.<br />

Schedule There was a change in the schedule due to the High School show being cancelled.<br />

A big thank you to everyone who left their work in the Gallery, and to those who took<br />

on extra sitting duties.<br />

<strong>Art</strong>sPeak The group show will run from June 10 – 28 th , with the Opening on Friday 10 th at<br />

7:30. Members are urged to enter (all media) to show the visitors to artsPeak just how<br />

talented we are. Information to Myrle by Friday June 3 rd .<br />

Alberta Parks Day July 17 th . Parks wish to include art in this year’s celebration. If you are<br />

interested in painting (or other art work) on site please contact Patti Dyment.<br />

Folk <strong>Art</strong> Festival July 30-Aug 1. Festival organizers wish to have more local art participation<br />

this year. Contact Joe, Rhonda or Dea for information.<br />

Fund Raisers The Postcard Show was highly successful with 157 cards sold and $2,518. 24 net<br />

for CAAG. Any ideas for future fundraisers are very welcome.<br />

BBQ CAAG will be holding a BBQ at Sobeys on June 18 th to raise funds for the organization.<br />

We need to staff two shifts 10:00 – 12:30 and 12:30 – 3:00. Six people are required per shift.<br />

PLEASE NOTE this is a fund raiser and we need members to help. Please contact Richard<br />

Other Business<br />

Lake O’Hara trip 8 places taken, still 4 openings. $100.00 deposit Cost is $200.00<br />

for three days. Sept. 19-21<br />

Bow Valley Riding Association Paintout and BBQ June 11 th Contact Patti<br />

Alberta <strong>Art</strong> Days in September. Anyone having ideas for a profile raising event<br />

please contact Dea.<br />

Openings. We have fulfilled the trial period for members donating food for the<br />

Openings. As we did not have a quorum to vote on continuing, those present<br />

agreed to continue the practice.<br />

Themed Shows. Discussion was held on the merits of Themed Shows. It was<br />

agreed that while Themed Shows may be too restrictive, we should use titles for<br />

shows, not just call them Group Shows.<br />

Private Shows. Members having a private show can exhibit work by a guest<br />

artist providing it is a minimal number of items.<br />

Shipping <strong>Art</strong>. It was stressed that if a buyer is from out of town the art work<br />

CAN be taken providing the purchaser pays with cash. Sitters are urged to read<br />

the instruction book while they are in the Gallery.<br />

Cancer Centre. Richard asked that any member willing to donate large colourful<br />

pieces of art for the new hospital Cancer Centre, contact him.<br />

Canada Day Parade. We need members to take part in the Parade. If you are<br />

willing to help promote the image of CAAG in the community, contact Richard by<br />

June 18 th<br />

Financial Report Catharine gave a financial report. As of April 30 th there was $12,388.32.<br />

GIC is $7000.00 plus interest<br />

Donation to the Japanese Relief Fund $71.50<br />

Bylaws As the bylaws will need to be updated, anyone interested in helping should<br />

contact Dea. Executive members will be meeting over the summer to review<br />

and familiarize themselves with the present bylaws.<br />
