<strong>Agnes</strong> was born in Vienna, Austria. She had an illigitimate child Marie <strong>Radle</strong> in 1878 which she<br />

left behind in Vienna, Austria with Josef Grumbergen Mesner, the child's (Marie <strong>Radle</strong>) father. In<br />

1882 she immigrated to the United States sponsered by her brother Michael <strong>Radle</strong>. She resided<br />

in Durand a short time then moved to Eau Claire. <strong>Agnes</strong> married Justus Brown in 1882 in<br />

Holcombe township. She never told her husband of her first child Marie in Austria; Therefore<br />

when their daughter Pearl was born she was listed as the first child. Pearl, Eva, and Joseph<br />

were told of having a half sister many years after their father (Justus) had died. <strong>Agnes</strong> died at the<br />

home of her daughter Mrs. Eva Hendry where she resided according to her obituary. <strong>Agnes</strong> is<br />

buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls, WI. next to her husband, Justus Brown.<br />

Josef Grumbergen Mesner was a Church caretaker. He had a sister Elouise and a brother Ludwig<br />

and a daughter with <strong>Agnes</strong> <strong>Radle</strong> which he raised named Marie.<br />

14; in Chippewa Falls, Wi. Justus was 58 years old when he died.<br />

She died on 03 Oct 1964 in Farmington, Oakland, MI.. She was also known as Marie Cebe.<br />

General Notes:<br />

During World War I the <strong>family</strong> lived on Linzer Str.No 432 in Wein XIII. On Dec. 4, 1920, Marie and<br />

her 3 children Anton, Theresa, Marie, and her husband Leopold I. Hrdlizka(Hawkens) left Vienna,<br />

Austria for Antwerp,Belgium arriving on Dec. 6, 1920. There original tickets were not available to<br />

them as they were sold to someone for more money. They were given room and board while<br />

awaiting another ship for the U.S. They left for the U.S. aboard the Red Star Lines ship<br />

S.S.Lapland from Antwerp,Belgium on December 22, 1920 and on Jan 3, 1921 arrived in Ellis<br />

Island, New York. An immigration doctor found a spot on Antons' lungs and everyone was afraid<br />

they would have to return to Austria, but he was approved and they all boarded a train for<br />

Arkansaw. WI. While on the train Marie Elenora (who was called Mitzi) bought a pack of gum for<br />

5 cents. She thought it was candy and could not understand why the flavor did not last and it was<br />

so hard to swallow. A passenger who spoke German finally explained to Marie's embarrassment<br />

what she was eating. The <strong>family</strong> arrived in Arkansaw, Wi. on Jan 9, 1921. Their sponsor Uncle<br />

Joseph <strong>Radle</strong> with his wife Marie and 5 of his children had lent his niece (Marie and <strong>family</strong>)<br />

passage money to come to the United States after WW I. Joseph <strong>Radle</strong> met them at the train<br />

station and took them to his farm for dinner. They were shocked to see all the food;(during WW I<br />

their bread was half sawdust and half flour mixed and baked,coffee made from roast acorns,<br />

nettles from the forest cooked like spinach and rudebaga made like sauerkraut). They soon<br />

moved to Durand, Wi. where Marie and her daughter Mitzi worked in a restaurant "The Cafe".<br />

The local farmers would come for miles for one of Marie's pies. Theresa was a housekeeper and<br />

Leopold was a bookkeeper at a local dairy. Marie and the children repaid all their passage<br />

money loaned to them from the Joseph <strong>Radle</strong>s'. Marie was a good homemaker and cook. They<br />

were devout Catholic. She moved to Detroit in 1934 from Durand, WI. Marie is buried in<br />

Roseland Park Cemetery,section 43, in Berkley, Oakland County,Detroit,MI.<br />

Josef Cebe is the son of Anton Cebe and Maria Sturm. He was born on 20 Feb 1878 in Lendorf<br />

Kotsch, Austria. He died on 15 Oct 1916 in Bucovina, Romania.<br />

General Notes:<br />

Josef Cebe died in Bucovina, Romania; He served in the German-Austrian 7th Army during WW<br />

I , Stationed in Krakau fieldpost 186 and Seravio fieldpost 786 he was listed as MIA in Romania.<br />

He was a wagoneer. Before the war he ran a movie house in Vienna, was a ladies man and the<br />

life of the party. The <strong>family</strong> address was Linzerstrasse 432, Wein XIII, during the war and above<br />

moviehouse(Keno) at 13 district Lindenstrassa Keno 12 , Wein. before the war. His birthplace of<br />

Lendorf,Kotsch, Austria changed after WW II boundaries and is today called Radlje,Slovina.<br />

Marie Elenora Cebe Hrdlizka Storey was known by the nickname Mitzi. She married her first<br />

husband Leopold Hrdlizka in Austria just after World War I. They immigrated to the United States<br />

with her mother and her sister and brother to Arkansaw, WI. in 1921. She lived in Arkansaw, WI<br />

from January to June 1921 then moved to Durand, WI with her husband until divorced in October<br />

1928. She moved to Detroit MI. in October 1928. She married her second husband, John Storey<br />

in 1930. On May 5, 1943 she became a U.S. citizen. She worked as a cook and a waitress.<br />

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, china and oil painting. She always said she didn't have many<br />

fond memories of her life in Austria. She said one of her earliest memories is being on a picnic in<br />

about 1907 with her parents, Josef and Marie,and her sister in the Vienna woods. Mitzi (Marie)<br />

found a man who had hung himself in a tree, she told her father and he informed the police. Then<br />

memories of the war. Marie Storey is buried in Roseland Park Cemetery, Detroit,MI.<br />

his mother, two sister's and brother-in-law in 1921. He worked at WI Hydro (Electric power plant).<br />

He was jovial and inventive. He was involved in the community of Durand. He was married to<br />
