By this time, July 3·4-5, '41, Carroll<br />

Adams was already a veteran in the<br />

three year old <strong>Society</strong>. In August '39<br />

several Michiganders, including Howard.<br />

Tubbs, Joe Wolff, Ed Schwoppe,<br />

and Glenn Shields, had organized the<br />

first Michigan Chapter, Detroit. Car·<br />

roll had gotten wind of it, attended<br />

the third meeting, and was active<br />

from then all. His first major job was<br />

in promoting SPEBSQSA's first state<br />

association which got under way in<br />

January, '41, with all foul' parts harmonizcd,<br />

Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing<br />

and Flint. The third national<br />

presidency was not in the hands of<br />

H novice at administration.
