Welcome Campers!!!
So you want to come to camp? Well, Camp 4 Echoes and our staff would love
to welcome you to 230 beautiful acres on Lake Coeur d’Alene! Returning?
Welcome back! You will spend your summer days meeting other girls, learning
fun new skills, pushing yourself to your own limits, and singing, crafting,
swimming, and boating! I can’t wait to meet all of you and show you what
wonderful things we have to offer for you at Camp 4 Echoes this summer!
My name is Tricia Maas and I am the new Outdoor Education Manager for Girl
Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho and also your new Camp
Director! I have just recently moved back to the Northwest from Steamboat
Springs, Colorado, where I have spent many seasons in the wintery fun. I grew up
in Eastern Washington and have always loved coming out to the lake in the
summer and exploring the Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho region by
foot. Now it’s your turn to come venture out into this wonderful area!
At Camp 4 Echoes we strive to provide you with enriching
activities and challenging fun. We will cater these to ensure the
qualities and skills you need to achieve self-confidence and
sufficiency and positive self-image are being met. Whether or
not you are already a Girl Scout, we would love to provide an
amazing experience at camp that you are sure to never forget.
Camp will provide valuable tools, education and skills, along
with PLENTY of new friendships, that you will carry with you
throughout your life.

Step One: Read this brochure to find all the possibilities
Step Two: Select a 1st and 2nd session choice
Step Three: Complete and sign the registration form
Step Four: Sign up for transportation (earth and parking-friendly)
Step Five: Mail your completed and signed form(s) with a $50 non-refundable
deposit to- 1404 N. Ash

Step Six: Smile, relax, and wait for your confirmation of registration and a
“Parent Packet” which will arrive at your doorstep approximately
two weeks after we receive your registration.

questions, and meet our camp staff. Tours of camp
and facilities will be offered so that you and your
daughter(s) can become acquainted with camp.
The Trading Post, our camp store, will also be
open. This is the only day for visitors, so take
advantage of this wonderful opportunity and come
visit Camp 4 Echoes!

Echoes. You will learn about trees and plants all around your camp. See how well

CAMPIN AMPIN’ ’ COWGIRLS COWGIRLS: : Come be a part of camping the way the cowgirls
used to do it! Have a camp out, host a cook-off, and participate in daily “rodeo”
activities. You’ll have plenty of time to cowgirl up during this week of fun-filled
times! Note: The girls will be the only ‘animals’ at this camp.

EXPLORERS: : Ever thought about becoming a
meteorologist? Really like to watch the clouds and stars? Then this is the camp
for you to further your likings! Plus, you will get to stay up late to watch and
explore the Perseids Meteor shower!

: Share your creative side with
your new friends at camp! Sketch, draw, color, and write in these journals you’ll

CAVENGERS: : Do you like to uncover a mystery? Are you

WING: : Canoe to your heart’s content! Learn the basics and
safety of canoeing then push out into the lake for an adventure! This includes an
overnight trip.

WLS: Always wanted to stay up till the sun came up? Experience
camp in the moonlight! Take a canoe ride to the marsh and learn about the

AKERS: : Compete in a variety of different races and create
your own Water Olympics! Also, learn different water safety techniques and
survival skills around water.

XPLORERS: :
Hiking and canoeing to an adventure beyond camp is
what this session is all about. Learn all the necessary
skills for venturing out into our ‘back-country’ then go
out and put them to use!

FOTO OTO FFANATICS
ANATICS: : Come explore the out of doors
through the lens of a camera! Learn about camera angles
and lighting. Also, learn about proper camera care. Go
out on photo hikes, capture the sunset and sunrise, hunt
for animal photo ops, and have a “studio” day where you
will create your own shots!

CADETTE ONLY SESSIONS
(For Campers entering into 6th thru 8th grades)
SURVIVORS URVIVORS: Don’t let the name of this camp scare you! You will learn many
new skills in a fun and challenging environment that you will carry the rest of
your life. Learn how to make emergency shelters, find food in a forest, stream,
or lake, and how to boil water without a pot. Spend a night in your shelters to
see how well you did and surprisingly how comfortable you will be!
July 20th – 26th 7 days/6 nights
NOCTURNALS
OCTURNALS: Bring your flashlights or headlamps because you’ll need
them for this crazy camping adventure. Play games and go on adventures while
the rest of the nation is sleeping! You will also cook up some fabulous meals
over a camp fire or stove while out boating or hiking through the night!

EVERYTHING
VERYTHING H20: If you love water, this camp is for you. Spend your
days at the waterfront or out on boating expeditions. Try your hand at sailing,
windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and more!

MARSH ARSH MMANIACS
ANIACS! ! Come explore all that the marsh has to offer! Kayak
and canoe your way through this unique feature of Camp 4 Echoes. Learn about
the flora and wildlife surrounding the marsh and find yourself in MUDFIGHTS!
July 27th - August 2nd 7 days/ 6 nights
SURF URF N‘ ‘ SSAIL
AIL I: Surf and sail the wind of Windy Bay! Learn
to balance on the boards, rig sails, and handle the equipment with the
help of our staff. It is recommended girls be good swimmers and at least
100 pounds to handle the surfboards and sails.

CAMP AMP CCHEF
HEF: : Learn all the basics and many recipes for cooking without a
stove, oven, or microwave. Impress your friends and family when you
come back home with a book full of fun and easy ways to cook up
delicious feasts in the out of doors!

SHUTTERBUGS
HUTTERBUGS: : Create memories through photos
as you capture all your exciting camp moments! Spend an
afternoon hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and bird watching while ‘clicking’
away. Pick out your favorites and they’ll become a part of the PHOTO CD you
will bring home as a souvenir!

BACKPACKERS
ACKPACKERS AAMONG
MONG UUS:
Hike away from camp to explore all that
backpacking has to offer! Spend four nights with the stars and trees and your new friends as
you learn skills of wilderness first aid and how to backpack safely and lightly. Find the list of

MME:
: Get a glimpse into the life of an outdoor steward and enthusiast!
LNT stands for Leave No Trace ©. Learn ways to have minimal impact on the environment
that you will bring with you the next time you’re out with family and friends. Take
only photos, leave only footsteps!

CANOE ANOE NNORTH
ORTH IIDAHO
DAHO: : Take a four day canoe trip through North
Idaho and learn to camp out and cook your own meals on stoves and/or fires
you build. You’ll spend the first couple of days at camp learning all the
necessities, then you’ll push off into the waters for exploring!
July 20th- August 2nd . 14 days/13 nights
TEEN EEN TTRAILERS
RAILERS: Grab your packs and bikes and hit the trails that North
Idaho has to offer. Adventure out to scenic lakeside trails and bike the Trail of
the Coeur d’Alene’s. Then back to camp for some waterfront fun and sun. You
need to bring a bike and helmet so you have something you’re comfortable with
and fits you well.
August 6th – 16th. 11 days/10 nights
SURF URF N‘ ‘ SSAIL
AIL II: If you have windsurfed or sailed before, take this
amazing opportunity to build on your experience. Spend a week perfecting
your skills and gaining greater confidence windsurfing and sailing Windy Bay.
Plus, you will plan an overnighter on the lake!

THE HE GGREEN
REEN TTEAM
EAM: Learn how to help keep your world a better place by
exploring ways to “be green”. You will create and perform a skit for fellow
campers and staff about simple techniques they can practice every day. Trek
through the forests and canoe through our waters to explore
other ways of keeping the earth green. Plus, make plenty of
crafts from recycled goods such as ’10 uses for egg cartons’, create a
‘raw food’ menu, and hold a Farmer’s Market full of goods you’ll create!
June 29th – July 5th 7 days/6 nights
RELAXING ELAXING TO THE MAX MAX: Start your summer out right! Shed off
the stress of school by coming to camp and planning with your
counselors what YOU want to do! Try yoga on the beach at sunrise
and enjoy waterfront time at the peak of the day! Plan out
your best four day camp experience yet!
June 25th – 28th 4 days/ 3 nights
CIT PROGRAMMING
(For Campers entering 11th and 12th grades in 2008)
CIT I: Become a counselor trainee, further developing your skills to include
camp programming, emergency procedures, outdoor skills, child development
and teaching techniques, and child management. Work with campers while
learning under trained staff supervision. This is great experience if you have ever thought of a
career in education, recreation, counseling, or youth development.
June 29th – July 12th 14 days/13 nights
CIT II: Complete your CIT program by becoming an intern. This hands-on experience
includes planning an out trip with route planning, map and compass use, menus, canoe training,
outdoor survival skills and a service project at camp. Work within other units and join the 4
Echoes staff for a Graduation Ceremony upon your completion of the program.

Camp 4 Echoes is an outdoor skills and waterfront camp focusing on teaching
girls valuable life-long skills and positive self-image and confidence. We strive to
provide the campers with an energetic and fun learning environment where they
will create friendships that will last a lifetime. Having a new Camp Director on
board is an exciting time for Camp 4 Echoes. This transition creates the perfect
timing for our vision and focus on quality programming to blossom.
Camp 4 Echoes follows the guidelines and standards of Girl Scout Safety-Wise to
ensure that your camper is always enjoying camp to these standards. Safety-
Wise establishes a thorough program experience that will protect and maintain
the well-being of every Girl Scout by providing Program Standards and Safety
Guidelines for common Girl Scout activities, including camp programming and
operations. Parents and campers can be assured that our camp follows the
highest standards in the areas of program, personnel, site, safety and administration.
Contact your Troop Leader if you are interested in the specifics of
Safety-Wise and its standards.
**Note**: Camp staff does not sleep in the same cabins as the campers.
We are aiding the girls in becoming self-sufficient and confident in themselves
and their surroundings. Rest assured though, each unit has multiple staff sleeping
on site. Your campers are never far from the eyes and ears of staff. Camp staff
represent the values of Girl Scouting and are selected based on their ability
to work with girls and skills needed to carry out special activities.
All staff, female and male, are carefully screened prior to hiring. If
you have any questions regarding summer camp, safety or staff,

FAQ’S
Does my daughter need to be a Girl Scout to
register for camp? No. Our camp is open to ALL girls.
But, Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern
Idaho requires a $10 membership fee if she is not
currently a Girl Scout. You may opt to pay a $25
non-member fee if you do not wish to register your
daughter as a Girl Scout.
What does a normal routine at camp look like?
There is no such thing as a typical day at camp! Each day is filled with its own
activities and fun for the campers based around the theme of each session and
the girls’ selections!
I would like my child to maintain a healthy diet at camp.
Is that possible? Of course! We offer many healthy options for your
camper while they are at camp. A salad bar and a build your own sandwich
station will be included at lunch and a salad and cold pasta bar will be included
at dinner. Special dietary needs can be accommodated and vegetarian
alternatives are offered at every meal. If your child has any strict dietary needs
or restrictions, please be sure to clearly note them on the form you will find in
the parent pack. Note: Although the children might inevitably become picky
eaters while at camp, our staff will try to ensure all campers are maintaining a
well rounded diet.
THE HE FAQ’
My daughter wants to bring a friend to camp. Will they
be together during their camp session?
Yes. We would love your daughter to share a wonderful camp experience with
a friend! However, if your daughter would like to come to camp with all her
friends, we can not guarantee they will be sleeping in the same unit or participating
in all the same activities. The staff tries to foster new friendships with other
campers for all the girls.
What if my daughter gets homesick while away at camp?
While becoming homesick during their time at camp may happen to some
campers, our staff is highly trained in assisting your daughter through this. We
will try and make certain that your daughter is having such a wonderful and
active time at camp so that homesickness does not occur. Please keep in mind if
this is your daughter’s first time away from home, scheduling your daughter for a
shorter camp visit may help prevent homesickness. Another tip: sending your
daughter’s favorite stuffed animal or blanket with them to camp may also help!
What if my daughter gets sick while at Camp 4 Echoes?
Safety is fundamental to Girl Scouting. Every precaution is taken to ensure the
health and safety of our campers. A nurse lives on-site at camp and oversees
the routine administration of medications and health care for all campers. A
First Aider is in every unit and a doctor is on-call if illness or injury requires
additional medical attention. You will be called if your daughter is unable to
receive the medical attention that she needs at our camp. You would also be
immediately notified in the case of an emergency.
How can I contact my daughter while at camp?
We encourage you to write your daughter while she’s away at
camp! In your parent pack, you will receive the mailing information to
contact your daughter. Please remember it might be necessary to postmark
your letter prior to camp to make sure that it reaches your daughter in a timely
manner. In the case of an emergency, you will be able to reach our camp staff
through the Director’s camp cell phone.
What sort of training does the
Camp 4 Echoes staff have?
Not only does our staff participate in extensive
training prior to camp, they also receive additional staff
training during in-service days throughout the camp season.
Training includes health and safety of the campers, program
training, emergency and evacuation planning, leadership and development,
homesickness, and much more. Staff is carefully selected and then receives the
training needed in order to provide the best camp experience for your daughter.
