Activities
The Camp Adventure Waterfront is directed by a fully certified and
experienced Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and additionally staffed by
experienced instructor aides and lifeguards. Each camper is evaluated
before being assigned to an appropriate level of our Learn to Swim
Program. Then each morning he/she will be instructed in water
exploration, safety equipment and procedures, waterfront rules and
a progression of the five different strokes and their elements. Each
camper is issued a certification card upon successful completion of
each of the seven levels of availability. The afternoon recreational swim
consists of free time to practice skills, join in group water games or just
splash around in the cool waters of beautiful Burden Lake. During all
waterfront activities, the buddy system and buddy board are utilized to
ensure the utmost safety of all campers at all times.
Activities are aplenty throughout the day at Camp Adventure. Our
dedicated, qualified staff will guide your child through his/her choice of
educational and recreational activities in addition to some of the required
group and individual sessions. At the flag pole, the amphitheatre which
overlooks the entire mile-long lake, is the perfect setting for group
discussions and individual mentoring sessions where many lasting
relationships between staff and campers develop. Many of our staff
members are former campers who developed their qualifications during
their summers at Camp Adventure and have been asked to return and
begin their professional careers with us. As part of our Job Search
Club, campers become involved in our CIT (Counselor In Training)
program. This is when training for future employment begins.
Team Play is the rule when campers
choose the sports to participate in.
Daily light competition includes:
softball, baseball, football, tether ball,
soccer, horseshoes, dodge ball and
street hockey. When Michael Jordan
“invent a sport” program takes place,
the imagination determines the game
to be played. Athletics can be played
on any of our four athletic areas
including basketball courts, volleyball
court, baseball, soccer, and football
field or our general play area.
Hidden talents and imagination are brought out
with the outdoor related arts & crafts classes; our
trail blazing club will teach skills in identifying
natural resources and hazards of the land along with locating specific
landmarks from a map of the lands. In the Ultimate Journey aspect of
this program children will learn about the different types of animals that
can be found in the area, along with the tracks and signs that animals
have been in the area. Children will discover the different types of
plants in the area and the importance of the nature around them.
Each day at Camp Adventure is a
different theme day. These themes
range from Backwards Day to Carnival
Day, which is always a favorite among
campers. An hour is set aside each day
for the groups to partake in these events
and activities, which although fun are also
creating team building and fundamental
skills among the children of all ages. The
last special event we have is our Family Day
and Awards Ceremony where families are
encouraged to come visit the camp and see
what their children have been involved in
throughout the year. Special activities
are scheduled for this day and campers
receive any awards which they have
earned throughout the year. Family
Day takes place toward the end of
August. Be sure to ask about
the date of this year’s event!
