DIRECTORY OF ETQAS AND PROFESSIONAL BODIES<br />

SOUTH AFRICAN COUNCIL FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL PROFESSION<br />

A statutory body established under the Architectural Profession Bill as a juristic person.<br />

Vision<br />

To be a regulatory body for a dynamic, robust and ever-evolving profession (Architecture) that<br />

is in the forefront of the Built Environment.<br />

Mission<br />

To guide, facilitate and promote a high standard of competency and responsibility in the<br />

Architectural Profession, to increase public awareness of the range of Architectural services<br />

offered, and to ensure the profession fulfils its total role in the development of South Africa.<br />

Legislation<br />

Established by the Architectural Profession Act, (Act No. 44 of 2000).<br />

Mandate<br />

The Council’s powers are set out in the legislation as follows:<br />

Section 10 - administration<br />

Section 11 - registration<br />

Section 12 - fees and charges<br />

Section 13 - education in Architecture<br />

Section 14 - general<br />

Functions<br />

❐ Registration of professionals, candidates and specified categories.<br />

❐ Controls standards of education in architecture.<br />

❐ Administers a code of professional conduct.<br />

Qualifications accredited<br />

Universities<br />

National first degree: BAS (Bachelor Architectural Studies)<br />

or BSc Architecture<br />

or B.Arch. Stud. (Bachelor of Architecture Studorium<br />

etc. depending on the University<br />

NQF Level 5<br />

Registration degree: B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture)<br />

or<br />

M.Arch (<strong>Professional</strong>)<br />

NQF Level 6<br />
