Functions<br />
❐ Contributing to the status and recognition of the different social service professions<br />
❐ Assisting in defining the scope of practice of the different social service professions<br />
❐ Provide a broad basis for professional control<br />
❐ Determining the qualifications for the registration of social service professionals<br />
❐ Controlling and exercising authority in respect of all matters affecting the education and<br />
training of social service professionals and determining the minimum standards of the<br />
education and training of them<br />
❐ Appointing assessors and moderators, conducting examinations, granting certificates and<br />
approving providers of education and training of social service professionals<br />
❐ Promoting the standards of education and training in South Africa<br />
❐ Controlling and exercising authority in respect of all matters affecting the manner of the<br />
exercise of the practises pursued in connection with the professions falling within the<br />
ambit of the different professional boards<br />
❐ Determining the standards and exercise effective control over the professional conduct of<br />
social service professionals<br />
❐ Encouraging and promoting efficiency in and responsibility with regard to the practising<br />
of the profession<br />
❐ Assisting in the promotion of social services to the population of South Africa<br />
❐ Maintaining and enhancing the dignity and integrity of the professions falling within the<br />
ambit of the professional boards<br />
❐ Guiding the social service professions.<br />
Learning Programmes<br />
In terms of the recognition of qualifications, as well as quality control, the SACSSP currently<br />
focuses on the following:<br />
❐ FET Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work - NQF Level 4<br />
❐ Bachelor of Social Work (B SW) - NQF Level 7 (professional degree)<br />
❐ Research Masters of Social Work (RM SW) - NQF Level 8<br />
❐ Structured Masters of Social Work (SM SW) - NQF Level 8<br />
❐ Doctor of Social Work (PhD (SW) - NQF Level 8.<br />
Existing Providers of Social Work and Social Auxiliary Work Education and Training<br />
on NQF Levels 5, 7 and 8<br />
