Bruce told me one time that I was a cross between Farrah Fawcett and<br />

Goldie Hawn, which put a big smile on my face. Despite this, the<br />

subject of plastic surgery<br />

came up one day in an<br />

unexpected way. Bruce was<br />

looking at me funny.<br />

“What?” I asked as he stared<br />

at my face.<br />

“You should probably have a<br />

little taken off your nose.”<br />

Huh? I’m nineteen. It had<br />

never, ever occurred to me<br />

that I might need a nose job,<br />

despite the fact that the<br />

Behan family is known for their “ski-slope” noses.<br />

I looked at him like he was crazy and said, “Yeah, well I don’t think I<br />

will be doing that any time soon.”<br />

I guess in the land of the beautiful and perfect people, there was always<br />

some “work” that could be done.<br />

After a conversation we had about his years as an athlete and competing<br />

in the Decathlon, I shared with him a story from my athletic career. I<br />

still have nightmares about one track meet. My coach, Mrs. Oachs (yes,<br />

the same Mrs. Oachs who was my Home Ec teacher…remember it was a<br />

very small town), decided on the day of a meet that I should run the 330meter<br />

hurdles. Now keep in mind that I had never run that race before,<br />

not even in practice. It is one of the toughest races, as you have to sprint<br />

through the entire race, and 330 meters is a long way to sprint. I wanted<br />

to cry, felt like throwing up, and almost walked off the track to have my
