Professor Denis Gabor's papers were transferred from his former
office in the Imperial College Electrical Engineering
Department to the archives in the Summer of 1979, with the
permission of the late Mrs Marjorie Gabor.
Subsequently Mr Andre Gabor added a number of family
photographs and other items, and further material was
transferred from the Department. Some administration files
from the archives have also been added.
The papers were arranged in bundles in a cabinet specially
designed by Professor Gabor (the drawing for this is i u EB
12/6) and in filing cabinets. The arrangement of the papers
has been adhered to as far as possible, and the original file
or folder title given as the first sentence in each
description. The general correspondence was arranged according
to the language of the correspondent, French, German or
Hungarian: these have been put in one sequence. Many of the
professor's notes are typewritten, as is his outgoing
correspondence. There are forty boxes and ancillary material.
Mr David Kitchen, Mrs M Gabor's nephew, has contributed Nobel
prize memorabilia.
Unless otherwise stated the material described is in English.
