Introduction
Welcome to the 11th edition of this unique Business Fair! The IOB prepares students for their professional life
and brings them into contact with the companies they might end up working with. In this booklet you will find all
the information you need to make the IOB 2011 a success.
You will find detailed information on all the participating companies and a map to help you find them. You’ll
also find a program of all the activities during the Fair and where you need to be at what time in order to
participate. If this general information is not yet specific enough, we have set up a Career Help Desk and
facilitate an online personal programming tool: the IOB-Guide.
Whether you are just orientating or aiming for a specific job, we hope you make the most out of your IOB
experience! Have a relaxing sip of your coffee in the lounge to contemplate which companies you’re going to
approach or which lectures you’ll attend and don’t forget this event is here for YOU!
On behalf of the entire committee and Study association i.d,
ACE
ACE product development, an independent consultancy
group within the ACE ingenieurs- & adviesbureau,
specialises in product development in the broadest sense
of the word. Years of experience have resulted in a wide
range of attractive designs that have been translated into
innovative products.
One of the products shown by ACE is the Sedeo seating
system by Handicare. This system embodies extensive
positioning options and extreme user-friendliness. ACE
designers engineered the system in such a way that it can be
adjusted easily and quickly to the highly diverse ergonomic
requirements of users. Another example on display is the
Aerasense NanoTracer for Philips. The NanoTracer is
an instrument that analyses the pollution caused by fi ne
particles in the immediate surroundings. Philips asked ACE
to transform the design and measurement technology into
a feasible product. The fi nal product shown is a battery
pack and carrier that ACE developed for the ION bikes
from Sparta.
ACE collaborates with various design fi rms, including Philips
Design, van Berlo Studio’s and Van der Veer Design. ACE
also carries out projects for numerous other clients, such as
TomTom, Prodrive, Remeha, Handicare, Dorel, Sparta, Bosch
Security Systems, Philips Healthcare and Philips Lighting.
ACE guarantees a proper balance between creativity and
technology.
ACE shows how the company translates the initial idea into
the end product.
BeaconPartners
BeaconPartners specializes in managing complex
product innovations. We help our clients get a good
grip on their projects. We work for multinationals and
trend-setting small and midsize businesses; our team of
professionals has years of experience in many markets and
industries. BeaconPartners has an own innovation process:
The Innovation Highway.
The strength of our team is a combination of
content knowledge regarding product development and
an ability to simultaneously maintain enough distance
to determine what is essential and why something should
be achieved. Our project managers provide insight and
overview.
In addition to abstract thinking at the strategic level, we
also don’t neglect those apparently banal activities such
as supervising people, monitoring progress, checking
budgets... in short, making sure that it actually happens.
We know how to turn an abstract idea into a successful
innovative product and commercial activities. And we are
used to rolling up our sleeves and getting down into the
trenches while doing so.
Every new company start with one product and these
innovations stimulate Dutch industrial activity. Design
business Network (DEB) was founded with the intention
to improve the new product development by bringing
together industry, research, entrepreneurs, government and
inventors.
DEB is able to facilitate the process and necessary
investigations to bring products to the market. This is done
by examining the product development and strengthens
the process by bringing together the necessary parties.
DEB can advise both parties (industry and innovators)
in the matching process and matches companies during
workshops, meetings, symposiums, etc.
DEB is searching for new interns to assist in our organization.
We are looking for ambitious students with the master
Strategic Product Design and who have a ‘hands-on
JAM is a thinking company claiming responsibility for
the communication of those goals. Our process driven
background, combined with a passion for art and an interest
in business, creates a playground in which we explore,
These models are the result of an active and social thinking
process. JAM guides this process by making the collective
thought visible by sketching it out …on the spot.! What you
end up with is a temporary summery which is ready to be
used to share. But be careful… a sketch is part of a process
of exploration. It is not the end result.
Our playful approach lets us move in between different
Poly Products
Poly Products is an innovative lead manufacturer of custom
build composite products and constructions, ranging
from prototypes, marine equipment, facades, housings,
production moulds, submarines etc. Over the past 42 years
we have created tailor-made solutions for our clients using
the best suited materials and production methods for each
project.
Composites (fi bre reinforced plastics) are known for their
very interesting material properties such as their high
strength, low weight and enormous freedom of form. Using
these properties to design and build custom objects and
products requires a company that can turn it’s experience
and knowledge into solutions.
In constructions and buildings, composite materials are
becoming increasingly popular due to their durability,
light weight and freedom in form and fi nishing. Enormous
facades or even an entire building such as the eyecatching
busstation in Hoofddorp are proof of the endless
possibilities.
An excellent example of the possibilities of Poly Products is
the Cargoshell, a foldable 20ft composite container.
From sketches, engineering and analyses to mock-ups, 1:1
Quooker
A true revolution …
Every now and then a ‘vital’ new kitchen appliance comes
along which changes the face of cooking. Trend-setters
buy it, their fi ends see it and immediately want one,
kitchen designers and chefs recommend it, newspapers and
magazines review it and eventually it becomes a ‘must have’
in every kitchen…..
The Quooker boiling water tap is one of those rare ‘must
kettles out of date and takes kitchens a giant leap forward.
Nowadays over 100,000 kitchens in Europe already
depend on their Quookers for instant boiling water.
And the applications are endless. Quooker users still come
up with new ones. The most obvious one is making a cup of
tea and the latest addition to the list is poaching fi sh. Of
course you can also fi ll up a pasta pan, blanch vegetables,
heat up plates and serving platters, make coffee, prepare
baby formula, peel tomatoes, remove candle wax and
much more. All done in a moment and with boiling water of
100°C! After all, only truly boiling water is good enough for
the perfect cup of tea!
Renishaw
Context
In 2009 the human dental industry adopted computer aided
manufacturing in to their practices. An intraoral scanner
provides a 3D model of a patient’s entire set of teeth. This
model can be used to craft artifi cial dentitions, but also to
simulate an operation in advance. With improving precision
of both scanning and printing devices, the dental world is
rapidly embracing this new technology.
Graduation project
Dentistry is highly important for animals. Not only hygiene
but also physical capabilities will deteriorate when teeth
are not looked after properly. A horse, for example, is not
able to bend its neck if its upper teeth cannot slide over
the lower. Currently the dental industry for horses is quite
a rudimentary process. 3Delft has started an initiative to
examine the possibility to apply the recent innovations in
human dentistry to veterinary dentistry. You will look into
fi tting solutions applying the latest technologies in 3D
printing and scanning. Some questions which will arise are:
What material offers the right abrasive properties.
What is the most effi cient - and animal friendly - way to
scan the teeth of a horse?
Is this technology only commercially viable for highly
valuable horses, or also for livestock and pets?
Company info – This graduation project will be supervised
by Renishaw. This company specializes in measurement
equipment and recently moved into the market of (dental)
additive manufacturing. Raaphorst is a renowned equine
clinic. Raaphorst has a CT scanner to possibly incorporate
in the project, as well as a broad international veterinary
network. 3Delft is a 3D printing company operating out
of Delft and will support you with knowledge about 3D
printing.
At TOPdesk, employees are given plenty of room in which
We are relaxed, yet professional. We go to work in jeans
starts getting a little too much, we manage to fi nd time to
relax at the Friday afternoon drinks, play the Wii, play
Let your product come to life, not collect dust in idle beauty.
Like other industrial design fi rms, we have what it takes to
what is the value of an appealing design that cannot
be manufactured at all or can only be produced after
overcoming major obstacles? Or of a design that requires
more time, energy and money to straighten out the issues the
zijn die toegesneden is op het product en het proces van
die klant. De specialiteit is het geleverde maatwerk. De
compounds die ontwikkeld en geproduceerd worden zijn
veelal gebaseerd op de bekende basispolymeren zoals
SBS, SEBS of andere TPE materialen. Door toevoeging
van diverse ingrediënten worden de product- en
verwerkingseigenschappen geoptimaliseerd. Het unieke
van de Cawiton compounds is dat ze de eigenschappen
combineren van traditionele rubbers en thermoplasten.
Hierdoor laten ze zich eenvoudig verwerken met behulp
van bekende technieken zoals spuitgieten of extruderen.
Behalve thermoplastische compounds vervaardigt
Wittenburg ook klassieke- en ingekleurde rubbermengsels.
Deze worden in een groot aantal industrietakken toegepast.
“YES!Delft Students builds the bridge between students
and entrepreneurs”
YES!Delft Students builds an interactive entrepreneurial
environment that facilitates contact between students
and entrepreneurs. Our prime partner is the Young
Entrepreneurs Society Delft Incubator that supports
professionals and scientists at the various stages of setting
up high-tech startup businesses. Besides starting your own
company at YES!Delft, our companies are looking for you
for an internship, graduation project or (part-time) job. Visit
our stand for more information.
An example of an IDE-born start-up company is Share
Square: “social webworking”. Share Square is a visual
collaboration platform developed for professional project
teams in design and management. The online visual
workspace (or pinboard) is intuitive and social. While the
company is less than a year old the product is already
selling and the team growing. Share Square will be our
guest on Wednesday and is currently looking for bright
Interaction Designers and Strategic minds.
YES!Delft Students encourages and supports motivated
students from the Delft University of Technology who
wish to expand their horizons in the dynamic fi eld
of entrepreneurship. We achieve this by organizing
challenging events that highlight the opportunities and
possibilities of entrepreneurship. Students are always
welcome to drop by our offi ce on the Molengraaffsingel
with any questions or just for an informal chat and cup of
coffee.
We’ll see you soon on the IOB or on one of our other events!
IOB-Guide
You might feel a bit intimidated to walk around on the
fair and approach all these companies, especially if
you haven’t really decided about your future yet.
Don’t worry! With our online IOB-Guide App we will
match you with the companies that suit you the best.
The App is also smart-phone compatible and free,
just use the QR code on the front of this booklet!
All you have to do is select the tags that appeal
to you, like ‘consultancy’ or ‘smart electronics’. You
can select any number of tags and the program
will match you with the companies that share your
interests. You will get a list with the 5 companies that
fi t you the best and show you information about their
activities on the fair along with a short description of
the company.
After you have submitted your preferences you can
even save your ‘company profi le’ via Facebook.
Anytime you visit the IOB-Guide now, you will see
an overview of your results or you can take the test
again!
As this Application is a try-out, we are very curious
about what you think. Please come by at the Career
Help Desk where you can fi ll in the IOB-Guide on a
laptop or come to tell us if you have troubles on your
phone or if you miss some of your interests. We will
use all input to improve the App for next year!
