Michael Naameh is Director & Chief Investment Officer <strong>of</strong> Crown Agents<br />
Investment Management (CAIM). He has almost 30 years <strong>of</strong> experience<br />
in economic analysis <strong>and</strong> international investment management. He is<br />
responsible for institutional fund management focusing on central bank<br />
reserves, government funds <strong>and</strong> pension <strong>and</strong> social security funds <strong>and</strong> chairs<br />
the CAIM Investment Advisory Panel. He is also a director <strong>of</strong> Crown Agents<br />
Bank <strong>and</strong> <strong>MCB</strong> Investment Management.<br />
Prior to joining Crown Agents in 1989, Michael was a senior consultant with an<br />
international firm <strong>of</strong> actuaries. He is co-author <strong>of</strong> two books on central bank<br />
risk management <strong>and</strong> reserves management. He has published <strong>and</strong> presented<br />
numerous articles <strong>and</strong> policy papers on financial sector development <strong>and</strong><br />
pension topics for various government institutions, regional organisations,<br />
the World Bank-sponsored Small States Forum <strong>and</strong> Commonwealth Finance<br />
Ministers Meetings. For 10 years he led an economic research team that<br />
advised the state-owned Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) on<br />
country <strong>and</strong> financial sector risks in parts <strong>of</strong> Africa <strong>and</strong> Eastern Europe.<br />
Michael holds an MSc in International Monetary Economics <strong>and</strong> Econometrics<br />
from the University <strong>of</strong> London <strong>and</strong> a BA (Hons) in Business Studies. He is a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>of</strong> Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA). He is a keen<br />
traveller <strong>and</strong> cultural explorer <strong>and</strong> has visited almost 100 countries.<br />
Marc Lagesse is Director & Chief Executive Officer <strong>of</strong> <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Markets</strong><br />
– the investment banking arm <strong>of</strong> the Mauritius Commercial Bank Group.<br />
He also serves as independent director to five Global Business Companies<br />
involved in the investment business.<br />
After graduating from UCL, Marc spent twelve years on the London<br />
International Financial Futures Exchange, the last eight <strong>of</strong> those as an ownaccount<br />
trader in interest rate derivatives. He returned to Mauritius in 1996<br />
to manage the Mauritius Fund Ltd., a London listed closed-end country<br />
fund. From 1998 to 2006, he was Managing Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>MCB</strong> Investment<br />
Management Co. Ltd.<br />
Marc holds a BSc (Honours) in Statistics <strong>and</strong> Economics from the University<br />
College London (UCL) <strong>and</strong> an MBA from the London Business School.<br />
He was also a member <strong>of</strong> the Cabinet-appointed National Committee on<br />
Corporate Governance in Mauritius.

J. Gilbert GNANY is the Chief Strategy Officer <strong>and</strong> Advisor to the Board<br />
<strong>of</strong> Directors <strong>of</strong> the Mauritius Commercial Bank Group. He also serves as<br />
Board member <strong>of</strong> several companies <strong>of</strong> the Group including <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong><br />
<strong>Markets</strong> Ltd. Previously, he had a two-year stint as Senior Advisor on the<br />
World Bank Group’s Executive Board where he was responsible for issues<br />
relating mainly to the IFC <strong>and</strong> to the private <strong>and</strong> financial sectors. Prior to<br />
that, he was Chief Economist <strong>of</strong> the <strong>MCB</strong> Group <strong>and</strong> Economic Advisor to<br />
the Minister <strong>of</strong> Finance.<br />
During his career, Gilbert has been involved in various high-pr<strong>of</strong>ile boards<br />
<strong>and</strong> committees. Amongst others, he chaired the Stock Exchange <strong>of</strong> Mauritius<br />
as well as the Cabinet-appointed Committee on the Modernization <strong>and</strong><br />
Democratization <strong>of</strong> the Stock Exchange. Furthermore, he has been a member<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Governors <strong>of</strong> the Mauritius Offshore Business Activities<br />
Authority <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Steering Committee for the setting up <strong>of</strong> the Financial<br />
Services Commission. He has also acted several times as Chairperson <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Statistics Advisory Council. He is currently a member <strong>of</strong> the IMF Advisory<br />
Group for sub-Saharan Africa.<br />
Gilbert holds a degree in Mathematical Economics <strong>and</strong> a Master Degree<br />
in Econometrics from the University <strong>of</strong> Toulouse <strong>and</strong> a ‘DESS’ in Micro-<br />
Economics/Management from ParisX.<br />
Jeremy Paulson-Ellis was one <strong>of</strong> the founding directors <strong>of</strong> the Genesis<br />
Group in January 1989 <strong>and</strong> was Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Group from then<br />
until his retirement at the end <strong>of</strong> June 2009. He was responsible for the<br />
overall direction <strong>of</strong> the company, while also taking part in new country<br />
development work. Genesis currently manages in excess <strong>of</strong> US$25bn in<br />
Emerging <strong>Markets</strong>.<br />
Prior to the formation <strong>of</strong> the Genesis Group he was Chairman <strong>of</strong><br />
the stockbrokers Vickers da Costa Limited (subsequently Citicorp<br />
Scrimgeour Vickers International Ltd) following its takeover by Citicorp<br />
in 1985 until his resignation from the Citicorp Group in June 1988.<br />
His career with Vickers da Costa dated from 1964 when he commenced<br />
work as an analyst covering European stock markets <strong>and</strong> companies. In<br />
1968 he turned his attention to the expansion <strong>of</strong> Vickers’ Japanese equity<br />
business, being closely involved with both research <strong>and</strong> marketing as<br />
well as, for some three years, the management <strong>of</strong> the Nippon Fund<br />
– the first <strong>of</strong>fshore fund formed to invest in Japan in August 1968. In<br />
1972 he assumed responsibility for all Vickers’ Japanese business <strong>and</strong><br />
was concerned with the establishment <strong>of</strong> the first representative <strong>and</strong><br />
then the branch <strong>of</strong>fices in Tokyo. Subsequently he took charge <strong>of</strong> the<br />
firm’s international operations including Southeast Asia. He was closely<br />
involved in the development <strong>and</strong> launch <strong>of</strong> the first country funds for<br />
Korea <strong>and</strong> Taiwan <strong>and</strong> the second for Thail<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> was a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
advisory boards for two <strong>of</strong> the funds.

Bernard Yen is an actuary <strong>and</strong> the managing director <strong>of</strong> Hewitt LY Ltd,<br />
an actuarial, benefits <strong>and</strong> investment consulting firm in Mauritius <strong>and</strong><br />
part <strong>of</strong> Aon Hewitt worldwide.<br />
He has over 25 years’ experience advising pension <strong>and</strong> provident funds,<br />
multinational companies <strong>and</strong> international organisations including<br />
15 years spent with Mercer in Engl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Belgium. He qualified as a<br />
Fellow <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>and</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Actuaries (UK) in 1991 <strong>and</strong> serves<br />
as the African continent’s representative on the Committee <strong>of</strong> Actuaries<br />
for the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund since 2007.<br />
Bernard is also a non-executive director <strong>of</strong> Caudan Development Ltd,<br />
Promotion <strong>and</strong> Development Ltd, <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong> Partners Ltd <strong>and</strong> <strong>MCB</strong><br />

Sunil Benimadhu is the Chief Executive <strong>of</strong> the Stock Exchange <strong>of</strong> Mauritius<br />
(SEM). He has spearheaded the project to enable the SEM join the World<br />
Federation <strong>of</strong> Exchanges, a key st<strong>and</strong>ard-setter in the stock exchange<br />
industry. Sunil has been elected President <strong>of</strong> the African Securities Exchanges<br />
Association (ASEA) on the 30 th August 2010. He was a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Executive Committee <strong>of</strong> the South Asian Federation <strong>of</strong> Exchanges (SAFE),<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Chairman <strong>of</strong> the SADC Committee <strong>of</strong> Stock Exchanges (COSSE).<br />
Sunil is also a regular speaker on emerging markets <strong>and</strong> on African markets<br />
in international stock exchange conferences.<br />
Before joining the SEM, Sunil worked in the Treasury Department <strong>of</strong> the<br />
African Development Bank (ADB). He was the General Manager <strong>of</strong> the<br />
National Mutual Fund Limited in Mauritius <strong>and</strong> played an instrumental<br />
role in the structuring, marketing <strong>and</strong> setting up <strong>of</strong> the National Investment<br />
Trust Limited, one <strong>of</strong> the largest investment trusts listed on the Exchange.<br />
Sunil Benimadhu holds a MBA in Finance <strong>and</strong> Investment from the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Illinois, United States. He also holds a D.E.A in Development<br />
Economics <strong>and</strong> a Maîtrise in Macro-Economics from the University <strong>of</strong> Aix-<br />
Marseille, France.

Sudhir Rajkumar is head <strong>of</strong> the pension advisory program at the<br />
World Bank Treasury. He leads advisory activities for public pension<br />
funds <strong>and</strong> other multi-asset class investors seeking to build global<br />
investment operations, <strong>and</strong> has served as a senior advisor to several<br />
such funds <strong>and</strong> institutions. During 22 years in global investments,<br />
Mr. Rajkumar has managed various asset portfolios <strong>of</strong> the World Bank<br />
Group, external clients, <strong>and</strong> World Bank pension funds; formulated<br />
asset allocation <strong>and</strong> investment strategy; hired <strong>and</strong> managed external<br />
investment managers; <strong>and</strong> led teams originating <strong>and</strong> executing<br />
private debt <strong>and</strong> equity transactions as well as corporate finance <strong>and</strong><br />
privatization m<strong>and</strong>ates in emerging markets in Asia <strong>and</strong> Europe (with<br />
the International Finance Corporation).<br />
Mr. Rajkumar holds an MBA from University <strong>of</strong> Chicago, a M.Sc. in<br />
economics from the London School <strong>of</strong> Economics, a B.Sc. in engineering<br />
from University <strong>of</strong> Delhi, <strong>and</strong> a CFA charter. He serves on the Advisory<br />
Committee on Investments <strong>of</strong> the Food <strong>and</strong> Agriculture Organization<br />
<strong>of</strong> the United Nations, <strong>and</strong> served on the Investment Committee <strong>of</strong> the<br />
UN World Food Programme from 2004–10.<br />
Mr. Rajkumar is co-editor <strong>of</strong> the book Governance <strong>and</strong> Investment <strong>of</strong><br />
Public Pension Assets: A Practitioners’ Perspectives recently published<br />
by the World Bank.<br />
Clarence Botha is an actuary specialising in investment consulting<br />
for institutions. Clarence joined Hewitt LY from St<strong>and</strong>ard Bank CIB<br />
at the end <strong>of</strong> 2007. Over the past 12 years he has developed specialist<br />
investment knowledge in the development <strong>of</strong> financial market<br />
modelling <strong>and</strong> analysis tools <strong>and</strong> has completed various strategy<br />
<strong>and</strong> governance projects for retirement fund clients on the African<br />
Continent.<br />
Clarence is a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>and</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Actuaries (UK) with<br />

Robin Woodall has primary responsibility for managing pension<br />
funds at Crown Agents.<br />
He has 25 years experience in fund management. He previously worked<br />
at the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme, one <strong>of</strong> the largest pension<br />
schemes in the UK where he became head <strong>of</strong> UK equities before the<br />
Scheme merged in 1996 with Foreign & Colonial Management which<br />
he joined as a director, managing a wide range <strong>of</strong> funds. During the<br />
following decade F&C increased assets under management from<br />
£25bn to £100bn.<br />
Robin has been a member <strong>of</strong> the Primary <strong>Markets</strong> Group <strong>of</strong> the<br />
London Stock Exchange, a non-executive director <strong>of</strong> a fully listed plc<br />
<strong>and</strong> as a founder shareholder, helped to establish a climate change<br />
fund investing in low carbon technology.<br />
He has a degree from Cambridge University, completed investment<br />
management programme at the London Business School <strong>and</strong> is a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the CFA society <strong>of</strong> the UK.<br />
Charlie Nash is a portfolio risk analyst who works closely with<br />
institutional clients <strong>and</strong> the directors <strong>and</strong> fund managers <strong>of</strong> Crown<br />
Agents Investment Management. She monitors <strong>and</strong> evaluates various<br />
risk parameters associated with the construction <strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong><br />
multi-currency, multi-asset investment portfolios.<br />
She is heavily involved in developing customized asset allocation <strong>and</strong><br />
risk measurement spreadsheets linked to external data feeds, such as<br />
Bloomberg, <strong>and</strong> internal portfolio management systems to improve<br />
efficiency <strong>and</strong> accurate reporting within the organization. Charlie<br />
is also involved in the analysis <strong>of</strong> new product structures <strong>and</strong> client<br />
training <strong>and</strong> mentoring programmes.

Ian McIsaac is Head <strong>of</strong> Financial Training at Crown Agents <strong>and</strong><br />
is responsible for the organisation <strong>and</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> an extensive<br />
range <strong>of</strong> financial training programmes in both the UK <strong>and</strong><br />
overseas. He is a banker by background <strong>and</strong> began his career<br />
at Grindlays Bank before joining Citibank in London as a Vice<br />
President. He worked in the World Corporation Group <strong>and</strong> was<br />
responsible for managing the bank’s global relationships for<br />
a portfolio <strong>of</strong> large multinational clients. Ian then specialised<br />
in property finance <strong>and</strong> became the finance director <strong>and</strong><br />
managing partner <strong>of</strong> a leading UK property consultancy.<br />
Ian has been designing <strong>and</strong> delivering training for companies<br />
<strong>and</strong> financial institutions on a broad range <strong>of</strong> finance <strong>and</strong><br />
strategy issues since 1993. He has specialised in credit <strong>and</strong><br />
financial management <strong>and</strong> has delivered training on open<br />
programmes <strong>and</strong> bespoke courses for major financial<br />
institutions <strong>and</strong> corporates. He has also successfully managed<br />
large donor-funded training <strong>and</strong> institution-building projects<br />
in Eastern Europe <strong>and</strong> the former Soviet Union.<br />
As well as an experienced classroom instructor, he has a<br />
strong interest in distance learning <strong>and</strong> has advised e-learning<br />
companies on content <strong>and</strong> instructional design. He is the author<br />
<strong>of</strong> several books on credit <strong>and</strong> financial management. Ian has<br />
worked extensively outside the UK <strong>and</strong> has delivered training<br />
in Africa, the Middle East, Europe <strong>and</strong> Asia.<br />
Dean D’Sa has primary responsibility for managing fixed<br />
income <strong>and</strong> currency portfolios at <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Markets</strong>.<br />
Prior to joining <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Markets</strong> Dean was based in London<br />
for 10 years. Dean’s career started at State Street Global Advisers<br />
where he was responsible for managing USD 2.5 billion <strong>of</strong><br />
fixed income <strong>and</strong> currency portfolios for pension funds, banks,<br />
<strong>and</strong> insurance companies: He then moved to Crown Agents<br />
Investment Management where he was responsible for reserve<br />
portfolios belonging to African <strong>and</strong> Caribbean central banks.<br />
Dean is a CFA charter holder <strong>and</strong> has earned an MSc. in Banking<br />
<strong>and</strong> International Finance from City University Business<br />
School, a BSc. in Management Science from the University <strong>of</strong><br />
Warwick, <strong>and</strong> the Investment Management Certificate from<br />
the CFA Society UK. Dean has also acted as a mentor under the<br />
MEFMI fellowship program.

Hashim Joomye is Fund Manager at <strong>MCB</strong> <strong>Capital</strong> <strong>Markets</strong> <strong>and</strong> also carries<br />
out research on companies. He was previously employed as Investment<br />
Analyst with the Mauritius Fund Management Co. Ltd., the management<br />
company <strong>of</strong> The Mauritius Fund Ltd., a closed-end investment Fund listed<br />
on the London Stock Exchange <strong>and</strong> the Stock Exchange <strong>of</strong> Mauritius.<br />
Prior to that, he spent three years working for a London firm <strong>of</strong><br />
Chartered Accountants before joining BDO Stoy Hayward. He holds a<br />
Masters Degree in Investment Analysis from the University <strong>of</strong> Stirling<br />
in Scotl<strong>and</strong> after having qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant.
