One of the busiest and well known Irish<br />

style pubs in the capitol is the cozy and<br />

friendly D’Arcy McGees. With its corner setting<br />

on the popular Sparks St. pedestrian<br />

thoroughfare and its close proximity to Parliament,<br />

the bar is a haven for government<br />

employees and tourists alike. <strong>The</strong> pub is<br />

named after Thom<strong>as</strong> D’Arcy McGee, one of<br />

the founding fathers of our Confederation,<br />

who w<strong>as</strong> <strong>as</strong>s<strong>as</strong>sinated in 1868 just steps<br />

away from where the pub now sits. <strong>The</strong> bar<br />

and gantry were designed and hand crafted<br />

in Wexford, southern Ireland and then<br />

shipped over to add style and authenticity<br />

to D’Arcy McGees.<br />

<strong>The</strong> main floor bar h<strong>as</strong> many are<strong>as</strong> leading<br />

off it each with quaint little booths divided<br />

by gl<strong>as</strong>s and wood partitions. <strong>The</strong> bar h<strong>as</strong><br />

lively entertainment every weekend and<br />

celebrates each Wednesday with an Alexander<br />

Keith’s E<strong>as</strong>t Co<strong>as</strong>t Kitchen Party. <strong>The</strong> bar<br />

<strong>The</strong> popular patio in bloom<br />

Jeff o’reilly with emily and Karolyne<br />

h<strong>as</strong> a fine selection on tap and an equally<br />

good selection of bottled beer including<br />

Kingfisher from India and Cooper’s Sparkling<br />

Ale from Australia. If Whisky is your<br />

preference, D’Arcy McGees won’t let you<br />

down, with over a dozen of Ireland’s best<br />

brands available at the bar along with a fine<br />

selection of single malts from Scotland.<br />

<strong>The</strong> extensive menu bo<strong>as</strong>ts many fine<br />

dishes including curries such <strong>as</strong> Chicken<br />

Tika M<strong>as</strong>ala and a selection of hearty pies<br />

made in house with the Spring Lamb being<br />

one of the pub favourites. For the evening<br />

crowd the kitchen stays open with a variety<br />

of meals available on the late night menu.<br />

In the summer months the bar’s patio is the<br />

best people watching spot in the city but<br />

get there early <strong>as</strong> it is always packed. Friendly<br />

staff and G.M. Jeff O’Reilly will make you<br />

feel at home at this little piece of Ireland in<br />

the heart of Ottawa.<br />
