<strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> provides services in the <strong>Brisbane</strong><br />

metropolitan area (suburbs within a 35 to 40 kilometre<br />

radius of <strong>Brisbane</strong>). Please see the map on previous<br />

page for details.<br />

How do we access <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong>?<br />

All clients must be referred from their treating hospital.<br />

Is there a cost?<br />

Most clients will be eligible for <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> at no<br />

charge; please discuss this with our friendly staff. Private<br />

services are also available for a fee.<br />

Links to other services<br />

<strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> will maintain close working relationships<br />

with the hospital team, other community-based health care<br />

providers and your general practitioner.<br />

<strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> can, and will, refer on to other service<br />

providers if required or will advise you on how best to<br />

access another service provider for ongoing support.<br />

What is <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong>?<br />

<strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> supports children and adolescents (from<br />

birth to 18 years) and their families. The team provides<br />

health care services in the home environment, or other<br />

community settings such as school, as required.<br />

The service functions as a multidisciplinary paediatric<br />

team including dietetics, nursing, occupational therapy,<br />

physiotherapy and social work.<br />

What does <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> provide?<br />

<strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> currently supports the following programs<br />

Hospital in the Home (HITH), Post Acute Care (PAC), Home<br />

Ventilation/High Cost Home Support Program (HCHSP)<br />

and Care Collaborations Project—Community Paediatric<br />

Complex Care.<br />

All programs are multidisciplinary with an emphasis on<br />

providing an alternative to hospital admission for children<br />

and adolescents<br />

What can <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong> help with?<br />

Dietitians<br />

Our dietitians can help with weight and dietary intake<br />

assessment and recommendations, gastrostomy/<br />

nasogastric feeds, general healthy eating advice and<br />

practical dietary strategies to meet recommended age<br />

appropriate nutritional requirements.<br />

Nurses<br />

Our nurses can help with delivering IV/CVAD medication and<br />

care, supporting new care interventions, wound management<br />

and monitoring treatment.<br />

Occupational therapists<br />

Our occupational therapists can help with supporting<br />

children to return to normal daily activities, at home and<br />

school, after illness or injury, physical support including<br />

splinting, bandaging and positioning, equipment prescription<br />

and environmental set up and supporting children to cope<br />

with medical needs and treatment developmental needs.<br />

Physiotherapists<br />

Our physiotherapists can help with improving and optimising<br />

chest function after illness, rehabilitation for reduced<br />

functional ability following illness or orthopaedic surgery,<br />

walking aid prescription, returning to school after illness<br />

or injury and developmental input.<br />

Social workers<br />

Our social workers can help with feeling like you can’t<br />

cope with everything that’s happening, support to obtain<br />

appropriate Centrelink benefits, reintegration to school and<br />

talking to a professional.<br />

Who can use <strong>DART</strong> <strong>Paediatrics</strong>?<br />

Each of the different programs has different eligibility<br />

criteria. All clients must be referred to a specific program<br />

by the treating medical team at their current hospital,<br />

must reside within the <strong>DART</strong> paediatrics service area (see<br />

map below) and aged under 18 years.<br />

Please note: HCHSP referrals will only be accepted when<br />

accompanied by an authorised funding package from<br />

Queensland Health.<br />
