Kathy Butler, RLI Trainer<br />

Kathy joined the RLI Training Team in 2010.<br />

She has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna since 1994<br />

and has provided leadership as the club president (2003-04) and as<br />

a director on the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Foundation.<br />

She is presently the GSE <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Chair and has served as the<br />

Team Leader for the district’s GSE Team to Australia in 2009. She<br />

also serves as a Board member for Rotaplast Canada.<br />

Kathy has been recognized for her leadership with a <strong>Rotary</strong><br />

Vocational Service Award.<br />

Kathy is currently the Director of Advancement, Okanagan College; Executive Director,<br />

Okanagan College Foundation (9 years); Past Executive Director, Kelowna General Hospital<br />

Foundation (17 years); and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) since 1993.<br />

Catherine Comben, RLI Trainer<br />

Catherine received her RLI Faculty Training in early 2010 and<br />

immediately joined the RLI Training Team<br />

She joined the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna in 1997. She has served as<br />

a club director since 2004 and has provided leadership as the club<br />

president in 2009-10. She is currently the president of the Pleasantvale<br />

Homes Society, a project of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna since 1955.<br />

Catherine is very active as an advocate, volunteer and leader in many<br />

community organizations and beyond her community. She has been<br />

awarded numerous awards for her civic and voluntary services and<br />

leadership. She has attained a level of PHF+4 and is also a member of the Bequest Society of the<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation.<br />

Following her early retirement from BCTel, (Telus) after more than 26 years, she has now<br />

pursued a new career in financial services, achieving her Mutual Funds license in 1999 and her<br />

Level 2 Life Insurance license in 2001. She is now a Branch Manager for Investia, part of the<br />

Industrial Alliance Group of Companies, and is also the President of CVC Financial Services<br />

Ltd.


Bruce Falkins, RLI Trainer<br />

Bruce was one of the originally trained RLI facilitators in <strong>District</strong><br />

<strong>5060</strong> back in 2008. Since then, he has facilitated in all of RLI sessions<br />

Held north of the border.<br />

He has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Sunrise since<br />

1998 where he has provided leadership as a director on the executive<br />

for many years, and as the club’s Centennial President in 2004-05.<br />

Bruce assumed the position of Assistant <strong>District</strong> Governor in January<br />

2010 for Area 4 in <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong>, a position he held until June, 2012.<br />

He also serves as a Visioning Facilitator within the district. During the fall of 2012, Bruce was<br />

selected as the <strong>District</strong> Governor Nominee for 2014-15.<br />

Bruce is a Paul Harris Fellow +8, and a member of the Paul Harris Society and the Bequest<br />

Society.<br />

Bruce received the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Sunrise Rotarian of the Year Award in 2000-01, the<br />

Dale Frandsen Award in 2007-08, and the <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation <strong>District</strong> Service Award in 2009.<br />

Since 1997, Bruce has owned and operated his own Promotional Advertising business in<br />

Kelowna.<br />

Jane Fletcher, RLI Trainer<br />

Jane participated in the RLI program in February of 2009 and one year<br />

later in February of 2010 she attained her RLI Trainer’s Certificate.<br />

Jane is a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Sunrise, having joined<br />

the club in 2005. Since that time, she has provided club leadership as a<br />

director (2006-11), as the club’s Webmaster/Club Communication<br />

Committee chair (2009-11), as a Speakers/Classification Sub-committee<br />

chair (2006-08), as the club’s bulletin editor (2006-12), and on various<br />

projects and fundraisers committees, including the club’s famed auction.<br />

She was awarded by the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Sunrise Rotarian of the<br />

Year Award in 2008 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.<br />

Jane continues to volunteer and provide leadership to other non-profit Okanagan organizations. She was<br />

awarded with Kelowna’s Woman of the Year in 2007.<br />

Jane enjoyed her career with BC Tel/TELUS for 25 years, Capri Insurance for 1.5 years,<br />

Prospera Credit Union for 1.5 years and with the CNIB for 3 years. She has been at UBC's<br />

Okanagan campus in the Faculty of Management since June 2010.


Tony French, RLI Co-Coordinator and Trainer<br />

Tony has been part of the RLI faculty since RLI was introduced to <strong>District</strong><br />

<strong>5060</strong> in 2008. He has served as registrar, venue and operations manager,<br />

trainer, and has arranged two faculty training courses. Currently, he is<br />

serving as the RLI Co-coordinator with Ed Kolybaba, primarily focused<br />

on coordinating RLI programs in Areas 4 and 5.<br />

Tony has had broad experience as a Rotarian since 1995; presently a<br />

member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna. His <strong>Rotary</strong> experience includes<br />

club director in all avenues of service, club Secretary, President of<br />

the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna (2008-09), and project leader for Matching<br />

Grant projects in Belize and Ethiopia.<br />

Beyond his club, Tony led a successful polio fundraising campaign with the clubs in the Central<br />

Okanagan serving as the Coordinator of the Polio Fundraising Campaign from 2002-06. He also<br />

served as the Area 4 <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation Coordinator (2005-08) and Assistant Governor for Area<br />

4 (2008-10).<br />

Tony has been awarded the Four Avenues of Service Citation (2000), a <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation<br />

<strong>District</strong> Service Award (2005), and a RI Significant Achievement Award (2011). Tony is a<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation supporter as a PHF+4 donor, Benefactor and BEQ+2.<br />

Tony is a retired Chemical Engineer and senior executive in the Canadian forest industry.<br />

Sherry Gilroy, RLI Trainer<br />

Sherry received her RLI training in March, 2011 and her training as a<br />

RLI Trainer in the spring of 2012.<br />

She has been a member of Shuswap <strong>Rotary</strong> in Salmon Arm since 2009<br />

and a member of the Tri-club Public Relations Committee. She assumed<br />

the role of President for her club for the 2012-13 <strong>Rotary</strong> year.<br />

Sherry is fairly new to the Shuswap Area arriving in 2008 after retiring<br />

from Education in 2003. In her “former life,” she spent her spare time<br />

working with Guiding and Scouting, both as a leader and a trainer.<br />

While working in the School System, and following her retirement, Sherry was a business<br />

partner and trainer in a First Aid and Supply company. She received many high honors and<br />

awards from Scouting and Guiding but really enjoyed her Wilderness First Aid Training courses<br />

where she loved bringing her outdoor experiences into the first aid aspect.


Derek Hall, RLI Trainer<br />

Derek Hall was born, raised and educated in British Columbia. His<br />

father was an RCMP officer, so the family endured frequent transfers<br />

to numerous towns and cities around the province.<br />

Following his graduation and a brief stint in the army, he began what<br />

would become a 30 year career in finance and banking that saw him<br />

posted to numerous locations around BC as well as a five year posting<br />

to South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia & Hong Kong). While in<br />

Malaysia, he was General Manager of a joint venture finance company<br />

with branch offices in eleven Malaysian States and two offices in the<br />

Sultanate of Brunei. The last 10 years of Derek's banking career were<br />

as Manager of the Vernon BC Main Branch.<br />

After taking early retirement from the Bank, Derek joined the local Hospital Foundation as<br />

Executive Director where he served for nine years until retiring again, at age 58 in 2006.<br />

Derek has served as a City Councilor and has held directorships on numerous community<br />

organizations. In his retirement, he is Chair of the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, a<br />

member of the local Property Assessment Review Panel and a lay member of the College of<br />

Chiropractors of BC.<br />

Derek has been a Rotarian since 1990 (Vernon Club). He is a Paul Harris Fellow, two times Past<br />

President and was <strong>District</strong> Secretary in 1998-99. In 2011, he lead the GSE Team to Bangladesh<br />

and was appointed Assistant Governor for Area 3 in the Spring of 2011. He has a keen interest<br />

in philanthropy and international service. Derek accepted responsibilities as an RLI trainer<br />

following a trainer’s workshop during the spring of 2012.<br />

Derek is married to Donna and has one Daughter Jessica who has just completed her Masters<br />

Degree in War Studies through the Royal Military College. Derek and Donna enjoy travel,<br />

gardening, history and community service.<br />

Gavin Hall, RLI Trainer<br />

After having graduated from the D<strong>5060</strong> RLI program offered in October<br />

and November of 2009, Gavin then graduated from the Trainer’s program<br />

held in February of 2010.<br />

Gavin is a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Armstrong (founded 1979).<br />

He has been a member with club since 1995 and has served as president<br />

of his club twice, and as club secretary for two <strong>Rotary</strong> years. Gavin will<br />

be serving as the Director of Membership for his club in 2012-13.<br />

Gavin taught English with the Calgary Public School Board from<br />

1971-1978 and then went into residential home building and contractual<br />

construction work. He retired from construction in 2006.


Garry Hollingshead, RLI Trainer<br />

Garry is one of the original Rotarians from <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> to be trained as<br />

a RLI instructor. Since that time, he has provided leadership and worked<br />

as a trainer in all of the programs offered in the district since 2008.<br />

Garry has been a Rotarian since 1988 with three different clubs<br />

(Yellowknife, NT; Prince George-Nechako, BC; and Summerland, BC.)<br />

Since becoming a member of the Summerland club, Garry has served as<br />

secretary, director and president (2002-03). He has served the district for<br />

three years as Assistant Governor for Area 5 (2005-08), chair of the<br />

World Community Service Committee and as the <strong>District</strong> Governor’s Special Representative for<br />

the formation of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of West Kelowna Daybreak. In June of 2010, Garry<br />

participated in a Rotaplast program in Venezuela.<br />

Garry was awarded the <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation <strong>District</strong> Service Award in 2006. Garry is a multiple<br />

Paul Harris Fellow, Bequest Society member and Major Donor.<br />

Garry holds a PhD in civil engineering and prior to retirement worked with the Royal Canadian<br />

Engineers (4 years), Royal Military College (7 years) and as an engineering consultant<br />

throughout western and northern Canada.<br />

Sue Harvey, RLI Trainer<br />

Sue graduated from the RLI program in February of 2009 and then<br />

followed up with additional training in 2010 to enable her to qualify<br />

as a RLI trainer.<br />

Sue enjoyed a lengthy and rewarding career as an educator prior to<br />

becoming a Rotarian and member of the Penticton-Okanagan <strong>Rotary</strong><br />

Club in 2004. Since joining the club, Sue has served the club as youth<br />

exchange counselor, Foundation director, president and secretary. Sue<br />

is also the Group Study Exchange coordinator for Area 5. She recently<br />

held a membership with the Planning Committee for the 2012 <strong>District</strong><br />

<strong>5060</strong> Conference.


Ron Hooper, RLI Trainer and Venue Facility Manager<br />

Ron participated in the RLI program in October 2011 and attained his<br />

RLI Trainer’s Certificate in March of 2012. He has become a strong<br />

advocate for the RLI program and its importance in building the capacity<br />

of Rotarians. Ron continues to serve as Venue Facility Manager for<br />

RLI programs held in Salmon Arm.<br />

Ron is a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Salmon Arm Daybreak, having<br />

joined in 2010. He is currently Club President-Elect and Co-chair of the<br />

Club Service Committee. Ron is a past President of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of<br />

Jasper.<br />

Ron has enjoyed a fulfilling career with Parks Canada, having served as<br />

Superintendent of Jasper, Pacific Rim and Gwaii Haanas National Parks. He is currently<br />

involved in planning alpine ski areas.<br />

Dennis Jacobsen, RLI Trainer and Venue Facility<br />

Manager<br />

Dennis finished his RLI training in the fall of 2009 and RLI Faculty<br />

training in early 2010. He was Registrar for the RLI program when it was<br />

offered in Penticton and presently serves as the Venue Facility Manager<br />

for Area 5.<br />

He joined the Penticton-Okanagan <strong>Rotary</strong> Club in 2005, primarily<br />

because he was asked by a business associate. He immediately became<br />

involved on the executive and provided publicity and website<br />

development for the club. He was also the president of the club during<br />

the 2009/2010 year.<br />

At the district level, Dennis serves on the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Website<br />

Committee, is the current ShelterBox ambassador for Area 5 and has helped to organize the Polio<br />

<strong>5060</strong> Campaign in October 2010. He is a member of the Paul Harris Society.<br />

His other day job is being the CEO of Windward Software Inc. which creates and sells software<br />

to over 35 countries from Penticton.


Marie Kolenosky, RLI Trainer<br />

Marie shares that she “made one of the best decisions’ in her life in 2004<br />

when she became a Rotarian.” “I simply do not know a better way to<br />

positively impact my community and the world community,” added<br />

Marie.<br />

Over the years as a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Salmon Arm Daybreak,<br />

she has chaired the Community Service and Membership committees, and<br />

the RYLA and Lobster Fest committees. She is currently the chair of her<br />

club’s Membership Committee and she serves as a representative on the<br />

<strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Membership Committee. In 2007-08, she had the pleasure<br />

of being her club’s President. She is a PHF+1 donor (2012); and is pretty proud of this.<br />

As a March 2012 graduate of the RLI Trainer’s program, she is looking forward to helping new<br />

and experienced Rotarians learn about our great organization. “Through RLI, we will build<br />

ourselves and others as leaders; and we can positively affect first our own lives and then the lives<br />

of others,” noted Marie.<br />

Marie is a Registered Nurse and Certified Nutritionist by profession. She points out that she is<br />

rather addicted to golf, watching hockey and curling and enjoying fast cars.<br />

Marjolein Lloyd, RLI Trainer and Marketing Manager<br />

Marjolein participated in the district’s RLI program offered in<br />

November of 2008, and then graduated from the RLI Training<br />

program in February of 2010. As of 2012, Marjolein has assumed the<br />

new position of Marketing Manager with the D<strong>5060</strong> <strong>North</strong> RLI Training<br />

Team.<br />

Marjolein has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Westbank since<br />

2000. Over the past eleven years, she has been the <strong>Rotary</strong> Youth<br />

Exchange Chair, Director of the Club Service Committee (2003-04),<br />

Director of Club Service Projects (2008-09), Club President (2009-10),<br />

and Club Administration Chair (2011-12). Marjolein has been a key leader over the past four<br />

years in the planning and funding of a major <strong>Rotary</strong> Spray Park for West Kelowna at a cost of<br />

over $260,000 which was completed in September 2011.<br />

Marjolein is currently the Regional Ambassador for ShelterBox Canada.<br />

Marjolein is the mother of 2 boys aged 8 and 11, is a piano teacher, and also works for a local<br />

magazine publisher.


Reg Lucas, RLI Trainer<br />

Reg is a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops Aurora Centennial. In<br />

March of 2012, he joined the D<strong>5060</strong> <strong>North</strong> <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

Training Team.<br />

Reg has been married for 51 years and he and his wife have three grown<br />

children, a daughter and two sons, along with six grandchildren.<br />

Reg worked in the Insurance industry for approximately 35 years. He<br />

and his wife purchased a hardware store in the East Kootenays of British<br />

Columbia in 1977 and operated it until 1987. They returned to Kamloops<br />

in 1987 and Reg went back into the insurance industry as an insurance<br />

broker. In 1989, he started to teach insurance courses at the University of the College of the<br />

Cariboo and continued to do so until he retired in 1999.<br />

Reg’s service career started in Chilliwack in 1969 when he joined the Kinsmen Club. He<br />

continued with Kinsmen until his move to the East Kootenays in 1977. He then joined <strong>Rotary</strong> in<br />

1978 in Invermere, B.C. While a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> club there, he served in several positions<br />

on the Executive, including President.<br />

As a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops Aurora Centennial, Reg has served as its President<br />

and he has been actively involved with the local Interact and Rotaract clubs. He has also served<br />

as the <strong>District</strong> Representative for Interact and Rotaract.<br />

Reg’s hobbies include woodworking, skiing, hiking and cycling.<br />

Sean McKenna, RLI Trainer<br />

Sean graduated from RLI in the fall of 2011, and then joined the RLI<br />

Training Team in 2012.<br />

He has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops Daybreak since<br />

2001and has provided leadership as the club president (2008-09) and as a<br />

director on the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops Daybreak Board for the past<br />

eight years. He is currently the club’s webmaster and Director of<br />

Communications.<br />

This is his first opportunity to serve at the <strong>District</strong> level since retiring<br />

from his business in 2011. Sean is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a<br />

Benefactor and a member of the Paul Harris Society.<br />

He has travelled and participated in international projects and a Polio Immunization day in India.<br />

Sean is a founding Board Director of Developing World Connections, a facilitator of volunteer<br />

projects around the world.<br />

Sean retired from Operations and Executive Management in the private sector (27yrs) and in<br />

Healthcare (VGH and LGH 7yrs).


Jim Nielson, RLI Trainer<br />

Vern joined the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> RLI Training Team in March of 2012.<br />

He has been very involved at his club level as a director since 2006, the<br />

founder of <strong>Rotary</strong> Ski to Tee, and the <strong>Rotary</strong> Air Show. He was president<br />

of the <strong>Rotary</strong> club of Kelowna in 2010-11 and assumes Assistant<br />

Governor role of Area 4 for 2012-13 year. Additionally, Vern has been<br />

serving as the Chair of the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Friendship Committee.<br />

During his year as President, the <strong>Rotary</strong> club of Kelowna won seven<br />

district awards for large clubs and a Significant Achievement Award<br />

from <strong>Rotary</strong> International.<br />

Personally, he has won numerous awards for his involvement in both business and not for profit<br />

organizations including the “Okanagan Science and Technology Community <strong>Leadership</strong> Award<br />

2009”, and the Fred Macklin Memorial award “Kelowna’s Man of the Year 2010”.<br />

Vern has been a senior executive and entrepreneur in packaged goods, real estate, high tech and<br />

other industries. His experience spans roles at General Foods to being CEO of multiple<br />

successful ventures.<br />

Jacqueline Nind, RLI Trainer<br />

Jacqueline has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Merritt since<br />

December 2009. Since joining the club she has served as Social<br />

Director (2010-11) and will take on the responsibility of President in<br />

2012-13.<br />

Prior to joining the Merritt Club, Jacqueline was charter member of the<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Delta, but shortly after became a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong><br />

Club of Richmond Sunset. While with the Richmond Sunset club from<br />

2000-2009, she held several directorships and was president in 2005-<br />

06. She chaired several successful fundraisers over her years with the<br />

Richmond club was involved with the GSE teams.<br />

Jacqueline has two strong beliefs; there is no “I” in “we” and to give back to your community<br />

both locally and internationally is the only way to go.<br />

Jacqueline attained a RLI Facilitator Training Certificate in March of 2012.<br />

She is an avid supporter of the Foundation and is a PHF+2 donor.<br />

Jacqueline’s chosen profession was interior design which she did for well over 20 years. She also<br />

taught interior design through continuing education in the lower mainland for three years. She is<br />

now looking to get back into the workforce in a different field.


Carole Paradis, RLI Program Team Leader and Venue<br />

Facility Manager<br />

Carole has served as a Rotarian since 1992, when she became a member of<br />

the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Morningside. While with the club, she served<br />

on all positions of the club’s Executive, except as treasurer. This included<br />

assuming the role of club president in 1996-97.<br />

Carole’s passion for <strong>Rotary</strong> has extended into the district where she has<br />

provided leadership as the <strong>District</strong> Chair (2003-05) and <strong>District</strong> Co-chair<br />

(2005-12) for the <strong>Rotary</strong> Youth Exchange Program, Events Coordinator for<br />

RYE (2006-11), <strong>District</strong> Secretary (2008-09), and member of the <strong>District</strong><br />

2005 Conference Planning Committee (Kelowna). She has hosted 17 youth exchange students<br />

from 15 different countries and has been the district’s Youth Exchange Representative at two<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> International Conventions, Salt Lake City in 2005 and New Orleans in 2011.<br />

Carole is married to Paul and is a PHF+1 donor.<br />

Carole graduated from the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> program in April of 2011 and assumed<br />

responsibility as RLI Program Team Leader for Areas 4 and 5 of D<strong>5060</strong>, along with RLI Venue<br />

Facility Manager for Area 4 of the <strong>District</strong>.<br />

Murli Pendharkar, RLI Trainer<br />

Murli received his RLI Faculty training in 2008 and since then has<br />

continued to be active in providing RLI training to Rotarians from<br />

<strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong>.<br />

Murli has been an active member of <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna since<br />

October 1978. He has provided club leadership in the following<br />

positions: Director of the International Service Committee (2007-08),<br />

Chair of the World Community Service Committee, and Chair of the<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> Youth Exchange Committee.<br />

Murli has served as the Chair of the D<strong>5060</strong> World Community Service Committee and as a<br />

member of the D<strong>5060</strong> Youth Exchange Committee. As the Area 4 WCS Chair he was successful<br />

in guiding the implementation of a US$375,000 Area 4 3H Water Sewer Project in Amreli, India.<br />

Murli has been recognized for his commitment to <strong>Rotary</strong> and for his leadership with the <strong>Rotary</strong><br />

Club of Kelowna Rotarian of the Year Award (1986-87), <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Ray Corner<br />

For Outstanding New Rotarian Award (1997), <strong>District</strong> Rotarian of the Year Award (2002-03) RI<br />

“Service Above Self” Award<br />

Murli is a supporter of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation and has attained a multiple PHF level.


Barb Penner, RLI Trainer<br />

Barb attained her certificate as a RLI Faculty member during a RLI<br />

trainer’s program in February of 2010.<br />

She has been a Rotarian since 2004 when she was inducted into the<br />

membership of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna Sunrise. She has served<br />

as a director of the club for four years (2006-08, 2009-10 and 2011-12),<br />

and as chair of the World Community Service Chair for 5 years. She<br />

will be assuming the position of President of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of<br />

Kelowna Sunrise for the 2013-14 <strong>Rotary</strong> Year. She has visited<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> projects in Ethiopia and has a keen interest in bringing<br />

Micro Credit to the area of Debra Birhan and Aliyu Amba. Barb has attained a level of PHF+4<br />

and is a member of the Paul Harris Society.<br />

In her work life, Barb works for program and policy development with Community Living BC<br />

where her most recent work has been around increasing employment opportunities for people<br />

with a developmental disability.<br />

Jim Piderman, RLI Trainer<br />

Jim has been a Rotarian since 1995 and a Toastmaster for seven years. He<br />

enjoys mentoring and has expressed that passion many times in <strong>Rotary</strong><br />

and Toastmasters, both with individuals as well as by frequent attendance<br />

at newly chartered <strong>Rotary</strong> and Rotaract clubs. He has shared his<br />

presentation ideas in the past two years with several presentations classes<br />

and clubs at Thompson Rivers University.<br />

While not currently singing with the Kamloops Barbershop Chorus, he<br />

did so for twenty years. This provided him with many opportunities<br />

to develop his leadership and presentation skills.<br />

Jim is currently the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Coordinator for the <strong>Rotary</strong> Information Course (RIC) and the<br />

President of his Toastmasters Club. He has worked closely with the <strong>District</strong> RYLA program,<br />

serving with its committee since 2008 and acting as its Registrar for the past two years.<br />

Jim is a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops West and a <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

graduate (2011). He participated in the RLI Trainer’s Course in Kamloops in March of 2012.<br />

Jim is looking forward to facilitating learning among the district Rotarians and enhancing his<br />

own knowledge through the RLI program.


Barry Reid, RLI Registrar<br />

Barry completed the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> course in Penticton in<br />

2011 and joined the RLI team in 2012 as the D<strong>5060</strong> RLI Registrar.<br />

He is an active member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Penticton Okanagan,<br />

joining in 2007 after his daughter was selected to participate in the<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong> International Student Exchange. Barry has held several club<br />

positions including club President (2011-12).<br />

Barry enjoyed a thirty-four year career in the parks, recreation, and<br />

tourism industry with the cities of Maple Ridge and Penticton. Since<br />

retiring in 2009, he has provided consulting services as a Senior<br />

Associate with PERC (Professional Environmental Recreation Consultants) and as an<br />

independent contractor.<br />

Isabel Reinertson, RLI Trainer<br />

Isabel joined the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> RLI Facilitating Team in March of<br />

2012 after completing the facilitation training.<br />

She has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Salmon Arm since<br />

2000, serving as club director for two years, and president twice of the<br />

club. At the district level, she has served as the Assistant Governor<br />

for Area 2. She is a <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> facilitator for Club Visioning and is<br />

a PHF+1 donor.<br />

Isabel has served as a volunteer on several national equestrian<br />

organizations, most recently as Chair of Para-Equestrian Canada, from<br />

which she received a special recognition award. She is a Dressage judge and competitor, but<br />

most of Isabel's community volunteerism has been accomplished through her <strong>Rotary</strong> club.<br />

She is a retired teacher following a 33-year career spanning grades 2 to 12, plus special training<br />

in counseling and librarianship in three British Columbia school districts.


Renee Roberge, RLI Trainer<br />

Renee graduated from the RLI program during the fall of 2011, and<br />

then joined the RLI Facilitating Team in March 2012 following<br />

participation in the Training Program.<br />

She has been a member of the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Salmon Arm Daybreak<br />

since 2002 and since then has held positions as Foundation Chair and<br />

President. She is currently Club’s Secretary.<br />

As an avid supporter of the Foundation and the work that it does<br />

throughout the world, Renee travelled with a team of Rotarians from<br />

<strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> to India in 2005 to participate in National Immunization<br />

Day in Agra, and is currently the Alumni Chair for the <strong>District</strong><br />

Foundation Committee. She received the <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation <strong>District</strong> Service Award in 2006 for<br />

her active service. She is a multiple PHF and Benefactor.<br />

Renee works as a Manager of Community Integrated Health Services for the <strong>North</strong> Okanagan<br />

(Shuswap/Revelstoke) with the Interior Health Authority.<br />

Arjun Singh, RLI Trainer and Program Team Leader<br />

Arjun joined the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops in 2000. He is a third<br />

generation Rotarian and has served his club as club Secretary and<br />

Public Relations Director.<br />

Arjun graduated from the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> program during<br />

the fall of 2011 and then followed up with participation in a RLI<br />

Training Workshop which enabled him to then assume the role of a<br />

RLI Trainer in <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong>. Arjun also volunteered to serve as the<br />

Program Team Leader for Areas 1-3 of the district.<br />

Arjun works as a property manager and currently serves on Kamloops<br />

City Council. He has a MA in Professional Communication and a Certificate in Dialogue,<br />

Deliberation, and Public Engagement


Al Strachan, RLI Trainer<br />

Al’s interest in facilitating learning for Rotarians was extended when<br />

he took an interest in serving as a trainer with the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong><br />

<strong>Institute</strong>. He attained his RLI Training Certificate in 2008 and<br />

provided instruction at all of the <strong>Institute</strong>s offered by the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong><br />

<strong>North</strong> RLI Trainers.<br />

Al has been a Rotarian since 1989, first with the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Nelson<br />

in <strong>District</strong> 5080 where he served as club president in 1999-2000.<br />

While in <strong>District</strong> 5080, Al was the co-chair of the 2002 <strong>District</strong><br />

Conference and he provided instruction at the 2004 Pacific NWPETS<br />

training session in Seattle.<br />

Upon joining the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kelowna in 2005, Al continued providing club leadership by<br />

serving as a director for four years (2006-10) and by chairing the Fundraising Committee (2006-<br />

08) and the Membership Committee (2008-10).<br />

Al has been involved in Area 4 leadership as the Area 4 and 5 Public Relations Representative<br />

on the <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> Public Relations Committee. He also continued to serve as a facilitator at<br />

Pacific NWPETS in Seattle in 2011 and 2012.<br />

Al’s leadership and commitment was recognized in 2009 when he was awarded the club’s Hass<br />

Houssain Memorial Service Award for outstanding service, commitment and dedication to<br />

<strong>Rotary</strong>.<br />

Al has achieved a PHF+3 level and benefactor status with the <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation.<br />

After a career with the provincial government, Al has established a reputable business as a<br />

Labour Relations Consultant.<br />

Kent Wong, RLI Trainer and Venue Facility Manager<br />

Kent graduated from the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> program during the<br />

fall of 2011 and then received RLI Training in 2012 to enable him to<br />

become part of the Training Team. Kent also accepted the role of<br />

Venue Facility Manager for the RLI programs that will be held in the<br />

future in Kamloops.<br />

He joined the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Kamloops Daybreak in 1997 with the<br />

classification of Photographer and immediately became the Club's<br />

Historian. Becoming a Club Board member and Director assuming the<br />

Foundation Portfolio in 2005, he became Daybreak's 25th president in<br />

2010-11. He has been the Club's Sergeant-at-Arms for a few years and<br />

currently is the Club's weekly bulletin Editor. He is a Paul Harris Fellow +3 donor.


Kent is active in the community as a longtime member of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce<br />

(since 1985 serving as its Goodwill Ambassador) and member of the Canadian Home Builders<br />

Association-Central Interior Branch (2007). He was chair of the Kamloops Heritage Commission<br />

for nine years and sat on the Board of Directors for two years on the provincial BC Heritage<br />

Trust. He is a past president of the Professional Photographers of Canada, BC Region, and<br />

currently sits on that Board as the Salon Liaison Portfolio Chair.<br />

Kent owns and operates Kent Wong Photography in Kamloops, a successful commercial/portrait<br />

studio. He travels across Canada instructing other professional photographers on sales and<br />

marketing and can be found teaching all aspects of photography in BC to amateurs and fellow<br />

pros alike. He also teaches ballroom dancing and promotes a healthier way to cook and eat<br />

through the use of Saladmaster cookware.<br />

Kent has his B.Sc. in Vertebrate Physiology and Neuropsychology from UVic. and his Master of<br />

Photographic Arts in the Professional Photographers of Canada. He is a Fellow of the<br />

Professional Photographers of Canada, BC Region. He enjoys cooking, music, reading fiction,<br />

tennis, badminton, kayaking, ballroom dancing and being involved with people.<br />

Ed Kolybaba, RLI Co-Coordinator and Trainer<br />

He has been involved with <strong>Rotary</strong> since 1995, first with the<br />

RC/Weyburn in <strong>District</strong> 5550 as a director and vice-president, then with<br />

with the RC/Westbank in <strong>District</strong> <strong>5060</strong> from 2000-2011 and recently<br />

with the RC of Kelowna Sunrise.<br />

While with the Westbank club, Ed served as a director for 7 years (2000-<br />

03) and (2006-10) chairing all of the service committees of the club at<br />

one time or the other, and as the Centennial Club President (2004-05).<br />

He also edited and published the <strong>District</strong> Award winning club newsletter,<br />

the Westbank <strong>Rotary</strong> Times (2000-11) and served as the club’s<br />

webmaster (2003-11). Ed assumed responsibility as the planner and primary contact with the<br />

club’s humanitarian projects in India and Ethiopia.<br />

Although his tenure with the RC/Kelowna Sunrise is short, Ed has taken on the responsibility of<br />

club webmaster and as a member of the Foundation and International Service Committees.<br />

At the Area 4 level, Ed has served on the Ambassadorial Scholarship, <strong>Rotary</strong> Centennial and the<br />

Group Study Exchange Committees and has assisted with Area <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation events and<br />

firesides.<br />

Ed has taken on more responsibility at the district level and beyond by serving as a coordinator<br />

and trainer with the RLI program since 2008, as member of the <strong>District</strong> Grants Sub-Committee,<br />

first as a member (2007-09) and then as the chair (2009-13), and as a <strong>District</strong> Humanitarian<br />

Competitive Grant Planning Team Member (Ethiopia). Ed served as an instructor Pacific<br />

NWPETS training in Seattle in 2011 and will do so again in 2013. In 2012, Ed provided<br />

leadership as the GSE Team Leader to <strong>District</strong> 4600 in Brazil.


Ed has received the <strong>Rotary</strong> Club of Westbank’s Rotarian of the Year Award in 2000-01, 2001-<br />

02, and 2003-04, The <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation <strong>District</strong> Service Award (2010-11) and an Honorary<br />

Merit Award from the RC of Volta Redonda, <strong>District</strong> 4600 in Brazil (2012). He has attained a<br />

PHF+3, is a TRF benefactor and a member of the Bequest Society.<br />

Ed retired in 1999 from senior education administration in the role of Director of Education, and<br />

a second time in 2010 from part time work as a Faculty Advisor with the Faculty of Education of<br />

the University of British Columbia Okanagan.
