LKS SerieS - Upgrade information
LKS Pro-Data Windows
Software and Electronics
Upgrade
The LKS Pro-Data upgrade comprises a comprehensive
electronics and Windows TM software upgrade for LKS
instruments running on the RISCOS Acorn system. Upgraded
instruments benefit from the greatly improved operation and
performance of the latest LKS80 model, at a fraction of the
cost of a new instrument.
The hardware upgrade is based around the new Pro-Data
Electronics Unit which replaces the current instrument
control electronics. The Electronics Unit is interfaced via USB
to a latest generation Windows TM PC. The user-friendly Pro-
Data software suite is provided for instrument control and
data manipulation.

PRO-DATA HARDWARE UPgRADE
The key feature of the hardware upgrade is the new Electronics
Unit. This fully modular electronics rack contains a number of plugin
modules that provide the communication, timing-control and
data acquisition elements of the instrument. The existing power
and control electronics of the monochromators are upgraded to
interface with the new Electronics Unit and the old photometric and
spectrometer control units are replaced. Communication between
the Electronics Unit and a PC running Windows 7 is provided by
a versatile USB interface. A USB to IEEE488 adaptor is provided to
interface with older oscilloscopes and the PC.
THE NEW ELECTRONICS OFFER SIgNIFICANT BENEFITS
► Much improved speed and
responsiveness of instrument
control
► Comprehensive timing control
provided by the purpose built
Laser Flash module
► Fast oversampling over linear
and logarithmic time scales for
optimal signal smoothing, without
resorting to analogue filters and
potential signal distortion
► Smaller, fully modular rack
mounted electronics for simpler
servicing and upgrading
► Enhanced reliability and
performance owing to the latest
surface mount technology and
digital signal processing
FURTHER HARDWARE MODIFICATIONS
► Programmable logic devices used
in the electronics enable firmware
upgrades to be uploaded from the
PC
►Vacant slots provide capacity for
future expansion
► Optional Slow-Flash accessory
for easy acquisition of slow
transients. Uses new high
accuracy 16-bit A/D conversion
with automatic gain control
for maximum signal resolution,
without the requirement
for manual gain and offset
adjustment
► Full compatibility with future LKS
instrument developments
►Simpler, neater cabling
► Spectrometer Control Unit - these redundant control and power
electronics are removed and replaced entirely by the Laser Flash
module inside the Electronics Unit.
► monochromator - the control electronics housing is replaced with
an upgrade housing containing an adaptor board connecting to
the motor control wiring.
► remote Control - included with the upgrade, this new addition
allows direct access to the spectrometer functions, especially
useful for alignment purposes.
► oscilloscope - the USB communication between the oscilloscope
and the computer provides increased data transfer speeds,
enabling the full memory depth of the oscilloscope to be used for
oversampling.
► accessories - in each case, the relevant accessory electronics are
upgraded to provide compatibility and an additional module is
fitted to the Electronics Unit.
SX LKS SerieS Upgrade - Upgrade information Pro-Data Windows Windows Software Software and and Electronics Upgrade Upgrade
PRO-DATA SOFTWARE UPgRADE
The upgrade includes the provision of a suite of user-friendly
Windows software for instrument control and the acquisition,
display and analysis of data. The software shares common design
features with other current Applied Photophysics instruments.
The Pro-Data LKS software implements a comprehensive control
panel for the manipulation of the instrument and data acquisition.
The experiment setup wizard allows for easy control of various
component settings in particular; the oscilloscope, acquisition
modes, averaging and oversampling. The new setup template
feature enables the rapid setup of common measurement
parameters.
PRO-DATA LKS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWINg FEATURES
► More flexible data acquisition
modes
► Auto-scan, time-resolved multiwavelength
acquisition as
standard
► Fast mode averaging for the rapid
acquisition of a large number
of averages, especially suited
to measurements with weak
Fluorescence signals
► Dual mode averaging where
baseline and transient data are
alternately acquired as part of the
averaging process
► Repeats function for the
acquisition and overlay of
multiple data traces, useful for
manual averaging
► Logarithmic oversampling over a
wide range of time scales
► Versatile oversampling controls
in order to use the maximum
memory depth of the oscilloscope
► Extensive instrument self-test and
diagnostic tools
► Emulator mode provides offline
familiarisation with the instrument
► Online help
► New, simplified interface for the
Slow-Flash accessory
► Full compatibility with the
stopped-flow accessory for future
and retro upgrades
The Pro-Data Viewer software provides full data handling, display
and analysis tools for data collected on the LKS. By default, the
program opens two windows; a data file browser and the main data
display window. The Pro-Data Viewer is launched upon initiation of
data acquisition or may be run independently for post-acquisition
analysis.
PRO-DATA VIEWER FEATURES THE FOLLOWINg BENEFITS:
► Simpler Windows filing controls
via the data file browser and its
associated toolbar icons
► Simpler display of multivariate
data sets
► Fully compatible with existing
RISCOS data files
► May be installed on multiple PCs
for remote data inspection and
processing
► Dedicated curve fitting window
with improved functionality and
