Fail-safe systems are used where the<br />

highest safety standards for pers<strong>on</strong>nel,<br />

machines and the envir<strong>on</strong>ment<br />

must be guaranteed, i.e. accidents<br />

and damage as the result of an error<br />

must be avoided at all costs.<br />

The <str<strong>on</strong>g>S7</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>300</str<strong>on</strong>g>F is a fail-safe <str<strong>on</strong>g>SIMATIC</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

c<strong>on</strong>troller − especially for safetyrelated<br />

distributed applicati<strong>on</strong>s in<br />

the producti<strong>on</strong> industry.<br />

The predominant feature of the<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>S7</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>300</str<strong>on</strong>g>F is the combinati<strong>on</strong> of standard<br />

plant automati<strong>on</strong> and safety<br />

engineering in a single system. This<br />

means that not <strong>on</strong>ly “normal” communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

but also safety-oriented<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> (using the<br />

PROFIsafe profile) <str<strong>on</strong>g>with</str<strong>on</strong>g> PROFIBUS DP<br />

between central c<strong>on</strong>troller and I/O<br />

takes place - intrinsic “normal” communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

is not required. Processing<br />

of the safety-related and standard<br />

programs is also possible <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>on</strong>e F-CPU. This fusi<strong>on</strong> of standard<br />

and safety automati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>siderably<br />

reduces the expenditure for c<strong>on</strong>figuring<br />

and designing modern<br />

safety-oriented plants.<br />

The <str<strong>on</strong>g>S7</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>300</str<strong>on</strong>g>F achieves the safety-oriented<br />

functi<strong>on</strong>s through an F-CPU as<br />

well as a fail-safe modules, which<br />

can be used in the <str<strong>on</strong>g>S7</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>300</str<strong>on</strong>g> as well as<br />

in the ET 200M and ET 200S distributed<br />

I/O systems. A special library is<br />

available from the German Technical<br />

Inspectorate (TÜV) providing certified<br />

programming examples. The<br />

programming takes place <str<strong>on</strong>g>with</str<strong>on</strong>g> the<br />

standard LAD and FBD programming<br />

languages.<br />

The <str<strong>on</strong>g>S7</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>300</str<strong>on</strong>g>F can be supplemented<br />

in distributed applicati<strong>on</strong>s by<br />

fail-safe motor starters and fail-safe<br />

frequency c<strong>on</strong>verters of the<br />

ET 200S.<br />
