with the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce<br />

A cornerstone <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce is the<br />

networking opportunity for members and potential members in<br />

the community. With over 150 hours each year devoted primarily<br />

to networking events, members with the busiest <strong>of</strong> schedules can<br />

find something that suits their needs.<br />

1<br />

Weekly Networking Luncheons<br />

In a year’s time, over 250 referrals were reported at the<br />

luncheons signaling that business is exchanged among<br />

members through this trusted network. Members and guests <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce have the opportunity to make<br />

connections and generate business leads at the weekly Tuesday<br />

Networking Luncheons. The luncheons, held at various member<br />

locations from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., <strong>of</strong>fer members a chance to promote<br />

their business in a 30-second commercial as well as opportunities<br />

to be the featured speaker for a 20-minute presentation. Call the<br />

<strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices for current location.<br />

Happy Hour Networking<br />

For the busy pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who enjoy leaving the <strong>of</strong>fice early<br />

on Friday but still work through the five o’clock whistle, the<br />

<strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce has developed Happy Hour Networking:<br />

a monthly event featuring member restaurants throughout the<br />

year. Attendees are encouraged to bring plenty <strong>of</strong> business cards to<br />

network while sampling the fare <strong>of</strong> a local restaurant. Happy Hour<br />

Networking Fridays are held the first Friday <strong>of</strong> each month from<br />

4-6 p.m. Contact the <strong>Chamber</strong> for upcoming locations.<br />

Monthly Sunset Mixers<br />

For business owners who cannot attend Tuesday<br />

luncheons, the monthly Sunset Mixer, held the second<br />

Wednesday <strong>of</strong> each month from 5-7 p.m., <strong>of</strong>fers attendees an<br />

evening networking opportunity in a casual, after-hours<br />

setting. Sunset Mixers average an attendance between 100-150<br />

individuals and are held at various member venues allowing the<br />

host to showcase their business. Some mixers have stood the test<br />

<strong>of</strong> time and become an annual tradition, as is the case with Richey<br />

Advisors, Inc., whose November Sunset Mixer is anticipated<br />

yearly. “It’s an opportunity for the business community to network<br />

together, and for me to thank my customers for the past year,”<br />

remarked President J.H. Richey.<br />

Young Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />

The Young Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals program was created to cultivate<br />

the next generation <strong>of</strong> civic and business leaders. Tailored<br />

to the business person under 40, the group is designed to provide<br />

business contacts, pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth, and valuable information<br />

to the young pr<strong>of</strong>essional. Events with this group include lessons<br />

in public speaking, dining and etiquette, golf, and wine tasting,<br />

as well as social media marketing and cooking lessons. We<br />

encourage all member businesses to look to their own staff for<br />

representatives who may benefit from engaging in this facet <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce.<br />

As the premiere voice <strong>of</strong> business in North Orange County, the<br />

<strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce strives to <strong>of</strong>fer every opportunity<br />

for its members and the community to highlight their products and<br />

services at an annual business expo. In years past, the <strong>Chamber</strong><br />

has included workshops for the budding entrepreneur as well<br />

as a luncheon featuring a keynote speaker. Look for upcoming<br />

information on the next business expo in spring <strong>2012</strong>:<br />

State <strong>of</strong> the City<br />

Each year, the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce partners with the<br />

City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fullerton</strong> to present the annual State <strong>of</strong> the City luncheon, an<br />

event featuring the Mayor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fullerton</strong>, Sharon Quirk-Silva, among<br />

other speakers who discuss the future <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fullerton</strong>. Become an<br />

insider by hearing what goals your local government leaders have<br />

set and how they plan to achieve them on March 29, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

Presidents’ <strong>Business</strong> Achievement Awards<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the programs the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce has kept<br />

alive for over 20 years is the <strong>Business</strong> Achievement Awards, an<br />

evening honoring the small, medium, and large businesses <strong>of</strong> the<br />

year. Now led by the <strong>Chamber</strong>’s past Presidents and Board Chairs,<br />

this event also incorporates the Quality <strong>of</strong> Life Award, given to a<br />

nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization, and the Hawkins <strong>Business</strong> Leadership Award,<br />

awarded to an individual displaying dedication and investment in<br />

the <strong>Fullerton</strong> business community.<br />

The Presidents’ <strong>Business</strong> Achievement Awards recognizes business<br />

owners who have gone above and beyond to serve businesses and<br />

the <strong>Fullerton</strong> community. Each year, these businesses and non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

organizations are honored at the Summit House Restaurant among<br />

their peers and alongside the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors’ installation. The<br />

<strong>2012</strong> event will be held June 20, <strong>2012</strong> and nominations are now open!<br />

Highlighting our members’ achievements as business<br />

entrepreneurs, educators, leaders in their industry, and investors in<br />

the community brings value to our membership at large, and keeps<br />

<strong>Fullerton</strong> at the forefront <strong>of</strong> where to do business.<br />

Salute to Education<br />

<strong>Fullerton</strong> is the “Education <strong>Community</strong>,” and the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> Commerce seeks to honor those individuals who make a difference<br />

in workforce development and education. Since the establishment<br />

<strong>of</strong> the McGarvey Scholarship Fund and the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> Commerce Scholarship Foundation, the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Commerce has awarded scholarships to graduating high school<br />

seniors and college students conferred as Young Citizens <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

Members have the opportunity to make a donation to the scholarship<br />

fund at each membership renewal as a voluntary business expense.<br />

In the past year, nearly 150 members helped to fund the scholarship<br />

program, making it possible to award students with the opportunity<br />

to further their education. The esteemed award is selected through<br />

specific criteria, including community involvement, ethics, service,<br />

innovation, and leadership.<br />

Since 1979, the <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce has also been<br />

recognizing outstanding individuals who have made a difference<br />

in the education <strong>of</strong> young people with the honor <strong>of</strong> Educator <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Year. This award is based on specific criteria, including service, ethics,<br />

innovation, community involvement and leadership. Past recipients<br />

include librarians, teachers, board members, former senators,<br />

superintendents, principals, and those bridging business with<br />

education. The <strong>Fullerton</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce salutes its educators<br />

for keeping the Education <strong>Community</strong> alive!<br />
