Shell UK played host to an Indoor sevena-side
Cricket Tournament on Saturday 8
September 2012 that aimed to raise funds
for The Archie Foundation based at the
Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital to
raise money for sick children and their
families in the North of Scotland.

The event – which was co-sponsored by
other major energy companies,
including BP and Centrica–was held at
Shell’s recreational centre in Aberdeen,
Woodbank.
For the last two years, similar events have
raised more than £24,000 for the
Pakistan floods appeal and for the East
Africa Drought Appeal. This time Shell
UK committed to match funds raised up
to £5,000. A wealth of spectacular
cricket-related prizes that were generously
donated are expected to help break last
year’s fundraising total.

• A framed and signed cricket shirt from
the famous 2005 Ashes-winning
England Cricket Team (2005 South
Africa Tour) donated by The Professional
Cricketers’ Association (PCA).
• A signed cricket shirt from the Scotland
Cricket Team donated by Cricket Scotland.
• A signed cap and ball donated by a
member of the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Following our first successful roadshow, you and a guest are invited to the second
one at Bristol Golf Club, 9 October, 2-4pm. Come along and see what Graham
van’t Hoff has to say about developments in Shell and listen to Ian Chisholm’s
update on the pension fund. These short videos will be playing on a loop, so you
can watch them at your leisure while you enjoy tea and cakes. There will be
plenty of stallholders on hand:
• Meet your PLR. Do you have any questions?
• Do you understand your Shell pension and benefits?
• Do you need to know about state benefits and allowances?
• Do you need help with where to invest?
• Have you got the right sort of insurance?
• Are you fit? Do you need advice on diet and lifestyle?
• Would you like to sign up to the SPA Facebook page, but don’t know how?
• Have you got something you would like to appear in SPANews?

The PCA also sent this message of
support to the event: "The PCA is
delighted to support this tournament, and
the efforts to raise money for such an
important cause. On behalf of the three
England captains, Andrew Strauss (now
ex! Ed), Alistair Cook and Stuart Broad,
we wish you all the best for an enjoyable
and successful event."
In addition Cricket Scotland also fielded
a member of their team to attend the
tournament on Saturday. Also attending
was a member of the Archie Foundation
team who gave a presentation on how
the money raised will be making a huge
difference to the lives of sick children
and their families.
At the close of the tournament, prize
giving was carried out by members of
the Scotland Cricket Team, and senior
representatives from The Archie
Foundation and from Shell UK.
Bristol Golf Club, conveniently located
just off J17 of the M5, has lovely views
across the Severn Estuary, in tranquil
surroundings. All the stalls and video
are on the ground floor.
