Deco Floors specialises in providing flooring solutions for the commercial and domestic
market. They offer a wide range of flooring including carpet, carpet titles, wood vinyl,
marmoleum and safety flooring from leading manufacturers. Having established excellent
working relationships with manufacturers and suppliers, they are able to source to required
specification to meet their customers’ needs. They pride themselves in the free, unbiased
advice they give, followed by excellent pre-sales services and superb fitting by their in-house
fitters.
The business was started in 2004 by the owner Bako Mouradian having previously worked in
the sector for over 20 years.
The business grew very fast in the early years. However, in recent years the market has
become very competitive and they wanted to explore how by becoming “greener”, this
could help them improve their efficiency, save money and improve their ability to access
new markets and opportunities, whilst at the same time reduce their impact on the
environment.
The support the business received from Enterprise Enfield under the EcoVate Programme
(which is part-financed by the European Union and Enfield Council through the Working
Neighbourhood Fund) included a review of the existing environmental policy and an
environmental audit and review.
A waste minimization strategy was developed in order to enable the business to prioritize
its key objectives and goals in applying the waste hierarchy (prevention, reuse, recycle,
energy recovery and disposal).
Having identified the need for an Environmental Management System (EMS) that could gain
accreditation to ISO 14001 with Enterprise Enfield’s support, the business has started
working on developing an EMS. Bako Mouradian says:

Business Support
Programme:
“Our advisers Wayne Saul and Marie Fuller have helped us improve our understanding of the
benefits of the implementation an EMS in improving our sustainability. They have assisted us in
applying for tenders where Environmental issues were relevant to the process which we would not
otherwise have applied for. Their expertise and advice has been of enormous value to our success
in the area of environmental issues.”
Achievements so far include:
• The development of an EMS system to gain independent ISO 14001 accreditation;
• Being able to tender for new business which we would not have previously gone for
because of our improved “green credentials”.
For the future, the business will develop its website to demonstrate green credentials.
