As engineers we design objects and then build them. It is only appropriate that the
Triangle Foundation do the same.
As I look over the past year and see what we have built I am reminded of a story I once
read. It goes something like this, " . . . there follows after me today, a young man whose
feet must pass this way; this chasm that has been naught to me, to that fair-haired youth
may a pitfall be; he, too must cross in the twilight dim-so good friend-I am building this
bridge for him."
The bridges the Foundation built were key to Triangle's success this past year. Our chapters have benefited
dramatically in performance and scholarship. Our undergraduate brothers are today better equipped to lead, deal
with adverse situations, and accomplish higher goals. They are able to cross that deep chasm.
They are able to cross it with ease, because we-you and l-built that bridge together,
Your support and our plan allows Triangle to become a stronger fraternity, it makes the Triangle experience more
rewarding, and it provides your chapter the opportunity to excel on their campus. The following pages contain the
many names of the bridge builders that have made our undergraduates journeys more meaningful.
The journey is long, with many pitfalls to cross and many bridges to still build. With your support we can make that
journey a lot less treacherous. There is an envelope in the center of this annual report, consider renewing your
support today or make it your first gift and join your fellow brothers listed on these pages.

I bridges that develop our undergraduate mem-
bers, making their fraternal experience more
rewarding and providing them the educational
experiences to be strong leaders. Strong chapters
will have strong leaders; a vital and prosperous
<strong>National</strong> Fraternity will have strong chapters.
Triangle is providing innovative and tailored
programs that are not available elsewhere. These
offerings are proven to have impacted 100% of our
chapters and a substantial amount of our members.
These programs include:

The Foundation underwrites the cost of producing
most of the manuals, which are provided to both
active and alumni organizations, including the
Member Manual, the Alumni Officers' Manual and
the Undergraduate 0fficers' Manual.

The Herbert F. Scobie Leadership School is the
centerpiece of Triangle's educational programs.
The Foundation provides funding to support
the program by underwriting the cost of facilitators
and speakers, and by providing a mileage
reimbursement for the chapters in attendance.

Triangle Fraternity. Through this proactive educational
program, Triangle's professionally trained
staff is taking the Fraternity to the next levelorganizational
excellence built on individual member
excellence.

These scholarships cover the registration costs and
limited travel assistance for individuals interested
in attending the Undergraduate Interfraternity
Institute, a leadership program designed specifically
for members of fraternities and sororities.

Fraternities are learning laboratories. Leadership
Advantage is a perfect example of a multifaceted
educational program. Designed to orient incoming
freshman engineering students to the university,
faculty and campus life it also provide an opportunity
to expose these same students to Triangle. In
addition, it provides a case study environment for
undergraduate members to develop, design, plan
and implement a large-scale educational program.
The program has proven to strengthen the fraternal
bond, fostered positive relationships with the engi
neering faculty and administration, and developed
the undergraduates' ability to attack a problem and
produce tangible results in a group {namic.

Attacking leadership at the top, the President's
Academy provides a non-threatening workshop
atmosphere at the beginning of the undergraduate
president's term of office. The intense weekend
retreat offers all the new chapter presidents an
opportunity to exchange ideas, build an action plan
for their chapter, and learn some 0f the basics
when it comes to leading a diverse group ofpeople.
They return to their chapter with skills and abili
ties that will hopefully trickle down to their fellow
chapter members. In addition, they have the
benefit of networking with fellow chapter presidents
from across the countrry. ^J^\

and were told of plans for relocation of the University
farms. In 2001 we plan to meet in Seatile. In 2002
we are contemplating a muise on the Hudson River.

Will Rodgers once said, "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run
over if you just sit there." I have this quote on my wall at work.
Too often we tend to get set in our ways and rest on our laurels.
Triangle is on the right track and moving ahead.
Staying on the right track and moving ahead is not a one-man show. Our
Fraternity and Foundation Staff lead us in the right direction. Tracks
don't lay themselvesl someone has to have a vision of where they will lead.
Wthout the time spent envisioning the right direction, those tracks could
be laid down the wrong path. This fraternity has the manpower, the
rail'splitters, the spike drivers, and the heavy labor our active chapters,
This is how the real work gets done. Our chapters ensure that our fraterni-
ty is, and will continue to be, made up of quality men whose future actions
will continue to keep us going forward, Finaily, without dedicated alumni
to donate time, money, and resources to keep Triangle fueled up and
moving ahead, the fraternitywould stall and not move at all.
Without any one of these groupsi the headquarters, the actives, or the
alumni, Tliangle wouldn't be what it is today and wouldn't be moving in
the right direction.
This issue is dedicated to those brothers that donate their financial
re$ources that help the hoadquarters and the active chapters keep coal on
the fire, so to speak. These donations are truly fraternity fuel.
In the next few issues we will be looking at the programs
of all of these
groups,
both active and alumni, and how each and every board, group,
chapter, and individual can work together to keep this fraternity continu-
ing on the right track. ^J^\
