Dramatic Change For Canadian Student!
By Cynthia Williams
The first time Willie went to prison,
he was only eight years old. He
had run away from home to
escape physical and sexual abuse
by an alcoholic stepfather and
promiscuous mother. in the years
to come, these emotional scars
led Willie through a maze of drug
and alcohol abuse, four failed
marriages, escalating crime, and
numerous incarcerations.
He was finally arrested and given
a life sentence, but served only a
short time before escaping from
prison and fleeing to Canada.
There, he was arrested for other
crimes but escaped once again,
this time going back to the Us
where he was arrested for even
more crimes and sentenced to
an additional 40 years in prison.
And with that mission, I see an exciting journey ahead
of us because the future of Crossroad is as bright as the
promises of God. I invite you to join hands with me as
together we walk into the sunshine of God’s grace,
sharing with those in darkness the truth of God’s
Word and the love of God’s people. Thank you for
your faithfulness in the past. I pray that I can count on
you for the next leg of this incredible journey, D.V.
Full of self-loathing, Willie
considered ending his life many
times, until someone shared with
him Christ’s love and forgiveness.
in the darkness of his cell, he
knelt and asked Jesus to be his
savior. The change in Willie was
dramatic. He dove into the Word
and began growing in his faith.
He decided to not contest his
sentences and even passed up
another opportunity to escape.
During this time, god brought a
Christian woman into his life and
they were married in the prison
facility. They were filled with hope
when Willie’s sentences in the Us
were reduced and he was
2
released on parole after serving
only 30 years. They were also
told that Canada had dropped
the charges.
However, eleven years after being
released from prison, the
Canadian police were at Willie’s
door. He was arrested and taken
back to Canada to serve his
sentence there.
His future uncertain, he continued
to grow, enrolling in CBi through
the CBi-Canada distribution center
where he is now in Tier 2. Willie
thanks the lord for “the wonderful
Bible studies.”
