Tornados head to Wingate for first SAC road contest
The Tornados embark on one of their most difficult road trips of the 2011 season this Saturday as
they make the trip east to Wingate, N.C. and Wingate University to take on the reigning South Atlantic
Conference Champion Bulldogs in their first road conference game of the season.
The last time these two teams met on the field, the Tornados offense jumped ahead in the game, going
up on three first half rushing touchdowns by Neville Bryce, but preseason All-American Honorable
Mention quarterback Cody Haffly led the comeback in the second half, throwing five touchdown
passes over the last 31 minutes of the game in leading the Bulldogs to the 44-37 victory in Asheville
High School Memorial Stadium.
Both teams come into today’s contest with matching 1-2 overall records, but the Tornados have fallen
in South Atlantic Conference action, losing to Mars Hill College this past weekend in Brevard Memorial
Stadium, while the Bulldogs have yet to open South Atlantic Conference play, having faced Valdosta
State, Albany State and UNC Pembroke.
Kickoff for the South Atlantic Conference game between the Tornados and the Bulldogs is set for 1:30
p.m. at Irwin Belk Stadium in Wingate, N.C.

Game Notes: The Tornados continue to feature one of the most potent rushing attacks in the NCAA
Division II, averaging 232.67 yards per game, led by the talented duo of quarterback Aaron Reese and
Kelvin Jeter. However, the Tornados rushing onslaught took a hit this past week when fullback Derek
Church went down for the season with a broken leg, and the burden will fall on the burgeoning BC
passing attack led by tight end Eric Watts to pick up the balance in the BC offense. Haffly and the SAC’s
leading receiver Chris Bowden pace a Wingate passing attack ranked 11th overall in the NCAA Division
II, averaging 330.67 passing yards per game and will challenge a BC defense which is giving up 291.67
yards per game through the air.
