● Support regional reporting funds.<br />

The creation of regional funds like the Washington DC-based Fund for <strong>Investigative</strong> <strong>Journalism</strong><br />

and the Danish-backed SCOOP program should be strongly considered by donors. By offering<br />

small grants to independent journalists, the funds can have a major impact for a relatively small<br />

investment, but high standards should be built into the process.<br />

● Coordinate with investigative journalism groups.<br />

Managers and implementers of international assistance programs on investigative reporting<br />

should draw expertise and advice whenever possible from the ranks of professional groups<br />

such as <strong>Investigative</strong> Reporters and Editors, the <strong>Investigative</strong> News Network, and the Global<br />

<strong>Investigative</strong> <strong>Journalism</strong> Network’s secretariat and member organizations.<br />
