<strong>The</strong> most important gifts of a <strong>Thacher</strong> education do not come from a book or a lesson plan. <strong>The</strong>y
come from the people and the interactions that happen outside or alongside the curriculum. For some, these
gifts are lifelong friends, a love of learning, and willingness to take on challenges. For others, it is a moral
compass, having truly internalized the <strong>School</strong>’s values of honor, fairness, kindness, and truth. Each of these

on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank every donor, volunteer,
and staff member who contributed to the <strong>School</strong> in the 2009-10 fiscal
year. Every year, <strong>Thacher</strong> relies of the generosity of our community—

the challenges
During my freshman year, I went through the challenge of the Silver Dollar Pick-up,
and learned a lot, from when my horse went lame and I had to ride my captain’s horse
for the event, to when I started my celebration a bit early and fell off. <strong>The</strong> anxiety, the
victory, and the memory that surrounded the experience highlighted my freshman
year experience. Most important to me right now is the challenge that I have taken on
in Cross Country. I began training for the sport over the summer with Mr Coleman as
my long-distance advisor and coach over the summer. I learned to love running by the
end of the three months, and came back to school a thriving member of the team—
something that I have never been. <strong>The</strong> amount of discipline, determination, and hope
that it took for me to get to this milestone in my life has meant a lot to me.

Coming back home, for the last time. This was the

September rolled by, I came to the realization that we

1. As cheesy as this is going to sound, the thing I miss
the most about <strong>Thacher</strong>, is <strong>Thacher</strong>. 2-10 are numbers,
things that add up to make the <strong>Thacher</strong> experience, what
it is and there are so many more, but really you can’t
explain or say in any amount of words, how special and
amazing the result is when you add all these things up
and that’s what I miss the most; the moments that add
up to equal <strong>Thacher</strong>.
