About the auth<strong>or</strong>s<br />
Gerry Gable<br />
Gerry Gable, MA (Crim), is the<br />
publisher of Searchlight magazine<br />
and was one of its founding edit<strong>or</strong>s<br />
in 1964. He also acts as a consultant<br />
to Searchlight Educational Trust.<br />
He has pursued his lifelong interest<br />
in combating the far-right enemies<br />
of democracy alongside a career as<br />
a television investigative journalist<br />
and producer, which in turn gave<br />
rise to his w<strong>or</strong>k as a trainer and<br />
Dr Paul Jackson<br />
Dr Paul Jackson (auth<strong>or</strong> of chapters<br />
5 and 7) lectures in far-right<br />
politics, modern hist<strong>or</strong>y and media<br />
at the University of N<strong>or</strong>thampton.<br />
His research interests include the<br />
hist<strong>or</strong>y and ideology of British<br />
fascism and the far right, extremist<br />
ideologies in the twentieth century,<br />
and radicalism and new media.<br />

adviser to sections of the criminal<br />
justice system. F<strong>or</strong> the past 12 years<br />
he has served as an independent<br />
adviser on race hate crime to the<br />
Metropolitan Police Service. In that<br />
role he participated in quarterly<br />
meetings with the Minister of State<br />
f<strong>or</strong> Security, Counter-Terr<strong>or</strong>ism,<br />
Crime and Policing. He has also<br />
lectured in the USA, Canada and a<br />
number of European countries on<br />
he co<strong>or</strong>dinates a research group<br />
based at the University of<br />
N<strong>or</strong>thampton, Radicalism and<br />
New Media. This is a specialist,<br />
applied research unit that develops<br />
consultancy projects with a range<br />
of practitioner partners, including<br />
police, probation and NGOs.<br />

and extremism.
