through UD Online. You are not limited to evening and online classes, 

though. As long as you have the prerequisites, all University courses

ANTH 101 Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology 

Major ideas and areas of study in social and cultural anthropology. 

Use of ethnographic data and film to illustrate the anthropologist’s 

view of societies in their sociocultural and ecological dimensions. 

BISC 110 Viruses, Genes and Cancer 

Biology of normal and malignant cells, and current knowledge 

of the genetic lesions causing malignancy. Environmental and 

inherited factors contributing to one’s risk of cancer, and 

prospects for prevention. Standard and innovative means for 

detection and treatment of cancer. 

BUAD 100 Introduction to Business 

Survey of basic business concepts designed for the non-business 

major. Topics covered include business organization, management, 

marketing, operations research and finance. 

EDUC 411 Introduction to Education Technology 

Comprehensive overview of the field of educational technology. 

Aligns the principles of how people learn with technological 

tools proven effective across the disciplines. Identifies and 

compares national and international standards frameworks and 

introduces the educational technology knowledge base of 

researched best practices for improving results. 

MATH 113 Contemporary Mathematics 

Application of scientific methods to investigate phenomena. 

Solution of various real-world problems using appropriate 

mathematical methods. Topics include descriptive and inferential 

statistics, probability, management science, optimization via 

analysis of models, coding information, social choice and decision 

making, and size and shape. 

PHIL 202 Contemporary Moral Problems 

The application of philosophical techniques to contemporary 

moral problems such as abortion, punishment, biomedical ethics, 

reverse discrimination and sexual morality.

“I have always been involved in acting, but it wasn’t 

until after completing my freshman year at the 

University of Delaware that I decided to move to 

California and give it 100% of my effort. I did not want 

to take time off from school or transfer to another 

college—I loved the University of Delaware! 

“I lived in California for my entire sophomore year and 

five months of my junior year, and ultimately received 

a film role. Between auditions, small jobs, and filming, 

it would have been impossible for me to attend 

scheduled classes, so the flexibility was essential: 

I would go out and film a scene and then go back to 

my trailer and watch a lecture or work on a paper. It 

was so easy to fit into my schedule.

do not feel they have the time to go 

back to school or can’t afford to stop 

working in order to complete school. 

The professors are wonderful, the 

University is so accommodating and it

Lauren Minite is a 2010 University of Delaware 

graduate. She is currently teaching middle and high 

school classes, including theater, at a private Christian 

school in Olney, MD, while pursuing a master’s degree 

in school counseling. “A Warrior’s Heart,” the film she 

worked on while a UD student, will be released in 2011.

UD Online offers students the opportunity to take more than 150 

different University of Delaware courses using a variety of distance 

learning technologies. Courses are delivered using an online learning 

management system which allows students to access course 

information and requirements. 

UD Online courses are taught by campus faculty and have the same 

requirements as their on-campus counterparts. There is no distinction 

on transcripts or diplomas between on-campus and distance courses. 

“I can tell you that UD Online students are getting exactly the same 

version of the course as the in-class student, and they’re responsible 

for the same information as the on-campus students,” explains one 

UD Online instructor. 

UD Online courses may include the following instructional 

technologies and methods: videostreamed class lectures, podcasts, 

video clips, audio components, guided readings, chat rooms, 

interactive web activities and threaded discussions. Instructors are 

available to assist students via email, by phone or in person as 

specified on each course syllabus.
