Alan Bernardo
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate graduate
“I decided to pursue Six Sigma certification to prepare myself for different
opportunities that may present themselves in my organization. This skill
set will be beneficial for process improvement that can be applied in all
aspects of business within—and even outside of—my organization.
“This program presented Six Sigma methodology in a way that was easily
understood, with real world examples. The faculty were very friendly,
approachable, accommodating and great mentors. They have continued
to reach out to the class members to share useful tools even after the
class has finished.
“The Six Sigma methodology has changed the way I approach things in
my work, and in general. I have only been in my current role less than a
year, and I had the chance to speak to the leadership team about applying
some Six Sigma methodologies in my area of the organization.
“All in all, I consider the whole experience valuable in
all aspects of my career; both now and my future
goals in the workplace.”
Alan Bernardo works in Bank of America’s Risk and Recovery Operations
Unit. He completed the University of Delaware’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
Certificate in 2010.

“I enjoy helping people uncover their financial goals
and implement a plan to meet them. Many people
believe their means may be too modest to warrant
engaging a financial professional, but I have found
that once they’ve begun the process, they are
pleased with the decision. Nearly everyone can
benefit from the process.
“The instructors in UD’s Certificate in
Financial Planning bring real-world
experience to the program’s educational
concepts, and the case analysis
methods give students the opportunity
to develop their skills. I also liked the
fact that the same group of students
were kept together for the duration
of the program, to complete the
certificate as a team.
“The financial industry became my second career
after retiring with 32 years in the chemical industry in
various managerial and technical roles. Without
Ginny says: “My son Anthony recently completed the Project
credential for me. The instructors were very knowledgeable,
flexible and, most of all, very approachable. Even if I had a
question today, I would not hesitate to reach out to any of them.
Taking the course has already helped me in my current position,
project management role.”
Anthony says: “As a young professional you learn very quickly
how important it is to differentiate yourself. Competition is stiff
and those that get ahead are usually the most proactive. I have
always had an interest in project-oriented work so I enrolled in
the certificate to learn about formal project management and
give my resume a boost. I benefited from the actual coursework
as well as hearing other class members share their experiences
related to project management. The class has really helped
shape the way I approach projects and tasks in the workplace.”
way to see if it was something I wanted to pursue full time.
“A major positive of this program are its teachers.
They were all very approachable, and because
they work in the field currently, everything
covered in the program is current and relevant.
Work/life balance was certainly considered in
the structure of the class—most of the people
in the class had a job, children, or both.
“To someone considering the program, I would highly recommend it.”
Rolonda “Rhodie” Goodman completed the University of Delaware’s
Paralegal Certificate in 2010 and is currently employed by a law firm
in Wilmington.
Connie Parker, BSN, RN, CDONA/LTC, LNC
Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate graduate
“The Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate appealed
to me because I was interested in entering a new
avenue of nursing. I also wanted to learn more
about the legal issues in the medical/nursing
arena so that I could educate the nursing
department in my current position as director
of nursing in a long term care facility.
“The program faculty was excellent. They were all currently
practicing in their areas of expertise, so they were able to bring
current experiences to the classroom. They were very open to
suggestions and discussions, and encouraged students to express
their ideas.
“The information I learned from the program has been great. Also,
due to the education and certificate, I have been able to market
myself as a Legal Nurse Consultant. I have consulted on a few
cases to date and I hope to grow in the LNC arena in the future.”
Connie Parker is director of nursing at Milford Manor Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center in Pikesville, MD. She completed the University
of Delaware’s Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate in 2010.

LeFaye Yurick
RN Refresher Online graduate
“It’s hard for me to believe, but I had been away from nursing
for 27 years! With our household in need of some additional
financial support, I decided to return to my ‘first love,’ and it
was the right time to reactivate my RN licensure.
“The online format of UD’s RN Refresher
Course was great. Class accessibility was
so easy, and I also enjoyed the ability to
‘replay’ the instructors as needed, in the
lecture videos. And I loved taking my
textbooks to the beach and reading them
there while listening to the waves! The
support of the faculty, the online class
discussions, and the online class overall,
were wonderful.
“To complete the clinical nursing hours, I was able to find
a participating hospital facility that was not too far away
from where I live. My clinical site preceptor was wonderful,
patient and encouraging, and remains my friend.
“Since completing the program, I’ve already returned to
active nursing, working for Compassionate Care Hospice,
and for Bayada Nurses, and I love it.”
Lauren Minite
UD Online distance learning
“I have always been involved in acting, but it wasn’t
until after completing my freshman year at the
University of Delaware that I decided to move to
California and give it 100% of my effort. I did not want
to take time off from school or transfer to another
college—I loved the University of Delaware!
“I lived in California for my entire sophomore year and
five months of my junior year, and ultimately received
a film role. Between auditions, small jobs, and filming,
it would have been impossible for me to attend
scheduled classes, so the flexibility was essential:
I would go out and film a scene and then go back to
my trailer and watch a lecture or work on a paper. It
was so easy to fit into my schedule.
“I would recommend UD Online to
anyone, especially professionals who
do not feel they have the time to go
back to school or can’t afford to stop
working in order to complete school.
The professors are wonderful, the
University is so accommodating and it
was truly a wonderful experience for me!”
Lauren Minite is a 2010 University of Delaware
graduate. She is currently teaching middle and high
school classes, including theater, at a private Christian
school in Olney, MD, while pursuing a master’s degree
worked on while a UD student, will be released in 2011.

The overall commitment needed to complete a distance learning
