NOTICE OF RACE
2012-2013 SAILING SEASON
Issued by Bellerive Yacht Club as the organising authority.
RULES
Races run up till 1 st Jan will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012,
races run after 1 st Jan will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016, the
prescriptions and special regulations of YA, Class or Association rules, rules of the AMS and the IRC (Parts
A, B & C) and by the Sailing Instructions. RRS 50.2 is amended to permit boats to tack spinnakers to
bowsprits and retractable spinnaker poles.
ELIGIBILITY
Entries may be accepted from yachts owned by a member/s of a club affiliated to Yachting Australia.
Races will be open to monohull keelboat, sportsboats and Trailable yachts. Entries from other yachts may be
accepted at the absolute discretion of the Race Committee. The acceptance of an entry for a yacht shall not
create a precedent for entry by any other yacht.
INSURANCE
The owner of a yacht entering a BYC race shall have a Public Liability and Third Party insurance with respect
to the yacht of not less than $10,000,000 when racing. Copies of the policies may be requested.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Yachts shall comply with YA Special Regulations Part 1; Category 7. Section 3.02.3(a) is mandatory and all
yachts shall carry a lifebuoy as per Rule 4.21.1, except that a self-igniting light is not compulsory.
The Long Distance Race and the Overnight Race are Category 5 and Category 5N races respectively.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions for the season will be available from the Bellerive Yacht Club by 4 October 2012.
Separate Sailing Instructions will be issued for the Barnes Bay Cruise, Channel Challenge, Overnight
Offshore Race, Seafarers Festival, Galapagos Duck Long Distance Trophy Race, Campfire Race, Pursuit
Race, Twilight Pursuit Race/s and Crown Series Bellerive Regatta.
HELMSPERSON
Yachts must be steered at all times by a Member of a Club affiliated with Yachting Australia.
SERIES AND SCORING SYSTEMS: The Low Point System of Appendix A - Scoring will be used. The
instructions below change A2 of that appendix.
(a) Twilight Series 1 and 2: This changes Appendix A – Scoring, A2 Series Score. Nine races are
scheduled of which at least five shall be completed to constitute a series. In each Series a boat’s series
score shall exclude her two worst scores. Should only five races be completed then no score will be
excluded.
(b) Winter Series: Five races are scheduled of which at least four shall be completed to constitute a series.
Should only four races be completed then no score will be excluded.
(c) Midweek Afternoon series: For Series 1, 2 & 3 the scheduled number of races are ten.
Placings on corrected time based on TCF, AMS or IRC handicaps will be used to score points and award
prizes.

ENTRIES: Entries shall be lodged at the BYC Office on the prescribed form and. close as shown below
Winter Pennant Series and other weekend events – 1700 hours on the Thursday before the race.
Twilight, Midweek Afternoon series and other Twilight events – 1700 Hours on the Tuesday before the race.
Only yachts entering for the entire series before the first race will be eligible for series scores.
Late entries for individual races may be accepted at the discretion of the Race Committee.
