Research & Development department.
With the experience and expertise of our engineers, combined
with the highly technological hardware and software components, we

Modern processes and new materials in industrial production make
ever-increasing demands on the quality and distribution of supply air,
as well as systems for the collection and cleaning of exhaust air and
exhaust gases. Here, standard commercially available ventilation and
filtration systems often reach their limits. In close coordination with
our customers, research and development department and our own
specialized product and components production, even at the concept
stage we are already developing the most suitable technologies. Highly

“THe SQuAIRe” in Frankfurt / Main
“ThE SquaIrE” in
Frankfurt / Main
“THE SquAIRE” in Frankfurt / Main is one of Europe’s most spectacular buil-
ding projects in recent years at one of the country’s busiest transport hubs,
and as a meeting point for business travelers or holidaymakers, it unites
Frankfurt Airport with the ICE mainline train station, the A3 expressway and
the B43 highway. With unparalleled ease of access in terms of private and
public transport, people can work here or simply relax and enjoy all that it
has to offer. Because with 150,000 m2 of total rental space, there is not only
room for offices and conference facilities, but also sufficient space for hotels,
restaurants and bars.
YIT Germany carries out the heating, cooling, plumbing, ventilation, sprinklers,
measurement and control system and electrical work for this enormous
and impressive construction project, which comprises a total of six individual
components. And the dimensions of the building service installations are
equally impressive. Approximately 100 technical control centers are installed,
a total of more than 380 kilometers of pipelines and 1,800 kilometers of
cables, 30,000 sprinkler heads, approx. 80,000 data points for the building
automation, under-floor heating and cooling for approx. 10,000 m2 and the
power supply for ceilings with integrated heating/cooling systems covering
approx. 80,000 m2 . At peak periods, more than 1,000 industrial workers are
on the construction site working for YIT Germany, some of whom work in a
24-hour shift system. Particularly worthy of a mention is the work carried out
by our sprinkler fitters. Working at a height of about 30 meters and directly
beneath THE SquAIRE’s glass roof – with safety nets and secured by ropes
– in the summer of 2009, they installed a water sprinkler extinguishing
system with more than 800 nozzles.

in Garching
YIT Germany GmbH‘s contract here involves technical and infrastructural
building management. With a surface area of 295,000 m², the
workers are responsible for, among other things, operating, servicing,
maintaining and also overhauling the systems. The 24-hour monitoring
of the systems is carried out by a central building services management
system. The energy management of the Mechanical Engineering and
Mathematics / Information Technology faculties is also the responsibility
of the company.
Besides other activities, the infrastructural building services management
tasks also include industrial cleaning, janitorial services, maintaining
the grounds, as well as snow and ice control. YIT Germany GmbH
is also responsible for round-the-clock security and surveillance of the
premises and provides a 24-hour reception service. YIT employees also
take care of the university’s courier service for the entire Munich region
and operate the university’s post offices in Garching. Key administration
and relocation management round off the responsibilities of YIT Germany
GmbH at the Technical university in Munich.
Stuttgart New exhibition Center
New Exhibition Center
in Stuttgart
YIT Germany GmbH’s contract for the construction of the Stuttgart New
Exhibition Center involved the heating system, cooling facilities and heat
insulation of the congress center, the entire energy control center, as
well as the ring main supply for all exhibition halls.
Here, heat is generated using three condensing boilers that are powered
by dual fuel burners; the required energy is provided by natural gas or
an oil tank system that is built on site. Three free-standing stainless
steel chimneys take care of the flue gas extraction. The chimney outlet
is 41 meters above the site, and the required cooling capacity for the
buildings is generated by four ammonia refrigerating machines. For the
re-cooling of these refrigeration machines, we assembled six open cooling
towers on the roof of the congress center. To be able to temporarily
compensate for power peaks as efficiently as possible, an ice storage
plant with four ice banks was installed.
A ring main supply runs beneath the exhibition halls, which provides
the individual buildings with local heating and cooling. Here, the supply
comes from both ends. Together with all other supply lines, the pipes
run through accessible concrete ducts with a total length of more than
2,000 meters.
