Academic Freedom<br />
The <strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> Board of Trustees supports<br />
the concept of academic freedom for the full- and parttime<br />
teachers of the college.<br />
Faculty members shall be free to present instructional<br />
materials which are pertinent to the subject and<br />
level taught and shall be expected to present all facets<br />
of controversial issues in an unbiased manner.<br />
As an individual of learning and a representative<br />
of the college, he or she shall remember that the public<br />
may judge the teaching profession and the college by<br />
his or her utterances. Hence, he or she shall exercise<br />
appropriate restraint, show respect for the opinion of<br />
others, and make every effort to indicate that he or she<br />
is not an institutional spokesperson.<br />

Diversity and Quality<br />
<strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a comprehensive community<br />
college that serves 25 towns in the near western suburbs<br />
of Chicago. The <strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> district encompasses<br />
63 square miles and includes over 325,000<br />
residents.<br />
<strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> is one of 48 community colleges in<br />
the state of Illinois. It operates under the direction of<br />
<strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Catalog</strong>, <strong>2008</strong>-<strong>2009</strong><br />
the Illinois Community <strong>College</strong> Board, with accreditation<br />
from the Higher Learning Commission of North<br />
Central Association of <strong>College</strong>s and Schools.<br />
<strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong> was founded in 1964 and has<br />
become recognized for its attractive, 100-acre campus,<br />
for its diverse and innovative programs and for the<br />
quality of its faculty. <strong>Triton</strong> transfer students are<br />
readily accepted into colleges and universities nationwide.<br />
Career program students learn skills that enable<br />
them to successfully compete in the job market and to<br />
make significant contributions to business and industry.<br />
Continuing education students participate in<br />
courses geared towards recreation, personal improvement,<br />
work force development, and lifelong learning.<br />
<strong>Triton</strong>’s affordable tuition and open admission policy<br />
have greatly expanded the accessibility of post-secondary<br />
education to residents of the district. Currently, <strong>Triton</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
serves more than 17,000 students during the fall and<br />
spring semesters with more than 130 degree and certificate<br />
programs. New educational programs and services are constantly<br />
being developed in order to meet the needs of district<br />
residents. <strong>Triton</strong> classes are offered at the main campus in<br />
River Grove, several extension sites throughout the district,<br />
as well as on the Web.
