The Capital Connection is a popular commuter train that runs between
Palmerston North and Wellington from Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.
With comfortable, spacious seating you can spread out and work or simply relax.
Plug in your laptop, read the paper or even have a bite to eat from our licensed café.
With onboard toilets and super friendly staff nothing beats the Capital Connection.

Concession Fares
Applies to children aged 5–15 years inclusive, fulltime Secondary and Tertiary
students in uniform or with a current school ID and SuperGold Card holders. A valid
ID card must be presented with the ticket to the Train Manager at time of travel to
receive the Concession fare, if not presented you will be required to pay an adult fare.

Passenger Information
Timetables & Fares
• Timetables and fares are subject to change without notice and seats are
not guaranteed.
• Fares and ticket terms are subject to the general conditions of carriage of

Concession Policy
• Applies to children aged 5–15 years inclusive, fulltime Secondary, Tertiary
students in uniform or with a current school ID and SuperGold Card holders.

Bicycles
• Bicycles are conveyed on the Capital Connection in the baggage van subject
to space availability
• Please make yourself known to the Train Manager as they will place your
bicycle onboard.
Baggage
• Tranz Scenic advises passengers to insure all baggage and personal items
• Please remember to attach labels with your contact details on them
• Baggage allowance is 2 items per person, maximum weight 20kg per item
• Size must be no more than 200 linear cm (height plus length plus width)
• Hazardous or offensive items will not be carried
• Hand baggage may be taken onboard i.e. small bag or personal items like
camera, coat, umbrella
• Hand baggage which is obstructing passenger areas will be moved to the
baggage van
• Passengers are responsible for their own baggage.
Smoking
• By law all Tranz Scenic services are designated non-smoking services. Passengers
may not smoke anywhere onboard.
Tickets and Passes
• Capital Connection tickets are only valid for travel on Capital Connection services
from 9 January 2012.
• Tranz Metro tickets and School Passes are not accepted on the Capital Connection.
Wheelchairs
• Conventional and motorised wheelchairs can be conveyed on the Capital
Connection subject to space availability
• Mobility scooters are unable to be conveyed due to the weight and space constraints.
Animals
• No animals are permitted on Tranz Scenic services other than seeing-eye dogs
and companion dogs for the deaf.
Alcohol
• All Tranz Scenic trains are fully licensed. A range of alcoholic beverages is
available for purchase. Passengers are prohibited from taking their own alcohol
onboard any Tranz Scenic service for consumption during travel. Passengers
transporting alcohol (e.g. a case of wine) will be carried in the baggage van.
