Read this pre-<strong>departure</strong> <strong>guide</strong>.<br />

The pre-<strong>departure</strong> <strong>guide</strong> is<br />

designed as a tool to assist you in<br />

best preparing for your time outside<br />

the United <strong>State</strong>s. It contains<br />

important information that, if<br />

followed, will ensure you are ready<br />

for a wonderful experience abroad.<br />

Complete the <strong>CSU</strong><br />

requirements for <strong>Study</strong> <strong>Abroad</strong>,<br />

including registration in SA 482/<br />

SA 682 or the appropriate Division<br />

of Continuing Education courses.<br />

<strong>Abroad</strong> office.<br />

Meet with Student Financial<br />

Services (SFS) to ensure<br />

scholarships, loans, and grants<br />

are secured for your term abroad.<br />

Find out the disbursement date for<br />

your financial aid package so you<br />

will know when you can expect to<br />

receive your funds.<br />

Meet with a travel clinic nurse<br />

from the <strong>CSU</strong> Health Network<br />

for a free travel consultation. Ensure<br />

you have all of the necessary<br />

immunizations for travel to your<br />

host country.<br />

Make a photocopy of your <strong>Study</strong><br />

<strong>Abroad</strong> Transfer Credit form.<br />

Write down the contact information<br />

for your academic advisor in case<br />

you must make changes to your<br />

planned course of study while<br />

abroad.<br />

Photocopy important<br />

documents such as your<br />

passport, credit cards, ISIC card,<br />

etc. Place one copy in your carryon<br />

luggage and leave one copy<br />

with a trusted individual at home.<br />

Contact your bank and credit<br />

card companies to let them<br />

know you will be traveling abroad.<br />

Ask about rates and fees for<br />

international use of your cards.<br />

Learn the details of your<br />

international health insurance<br />

coverage and how to access it<br />

abroad, if needed.<br />

Set up a communication plan<br />

with family and friends for<br />

regular communications. Establish<br />

a secondary plan in the event of an<br />

emergency.<br />

Learn as much as you can about<br />

the culture, history, language or<br />

traditions of the country in which<br />

you will be studying.<br />
