Our service contracts are all designed to reduce operational risks and help provide you with<br />

There are three levels of Service Contract to choose from:<br />

Core Fleet Rental<br />

We have over 70,000 trucks on our Core Fleet Rental<br />

plan. As the name suggests, this rental option is designed<br />

truck exactly to your requirements and obtain a highly<br />

competitive rental price by opting for a longer fixed-term<br />

rental period of up to seven years. This rental plan is<br />

available on all our Approved used trucks as well as our<br />

The need to adapt<br />

Forklift trucks have been the established method for moving and storing goods for decades,<br />

and while the basic concept of a unit load conveyed by two forks has largely remained<br />

constant, the types of truck employed have evolved in the quest for improved use of space and<br />

maximum productivity at the lowest cost. As a result, the industry has developed a wide range<br />

of products to suit differing needs, whether it’s loading/unloading, transportation, movement<br />

of goods in manufacturing, order picking or straightforward storage.<br />

<strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Material</strong> <strong>Handling</strong> Europe has a long history of working closely with customers to<br />

adapt trucks to match precise requirements. Dedicated facilities within their production units<br />

are able to interpret customer needs and design optimal solutions. There are generally four<br />

main reasons that drive the need to adapt:<br />

Adapting to the working environment<br />

There are obvious examples where the working environment will demand change to a<br />

standard truck. Food manufacturing requires the highest standards of hygiene, and trucks<br />

can be built of stainless steel, allowing regular pressure washing and resisting corrosion. In<br />

contrast, milling environments demand adaptation to protect equipment against the ingress<br />

of dust.<br />

Adapting to the load<br />

In some operations adaptation can be required to deal with the type of load being handled.<br />

Less stable consignments may require additional support to ensure safe and efficient handling.<br />

This could involve specially designed stability aids, with for example overhead support to<br />

steady the load from above, or a lateral tilt facility to ‘nest’ the load. A frequent example of<br />

this is high-stacked roll cages of products such as dairy cartons, which demand high and fast<br />

throughput without risk of spillage. In some cases the load may not be palletised at all, instead<br />

using side clamps, which can be an effective way of lifting large unit loads such as domestic<br />

appliances.

Adapting to the process<br />

While material handling equipment is principally<br />

employed in storage and distribution industry, there are<br />

also requirements in situations where straightforward<br />

lifting and lowering of a load is insufficient. In<br />

manufacturing, forklift trucks can be adapted to fulfil<br />

a variety of tasks. The process may require a tool,<br />

component or raw material to be fed or loaded in a<br />

way that could involve rotation, inversion or other<br />

manipulation. This type of adaptation is also within the<br />

scope of TMHE’s special product development units.<br />

Streamlining the process<br />

Improvements in logistics may in some cases be calculated<br />

in fractions of cents, but the consequential commercial<br />

impact measured in multi-digit units of currency. A slight<br />

adjustment to the way something is handled may only<br />

appear to gain a few seconds, but when that process is<br />

repeated many times per hour, per shift, per week and<br />

per year the time savings can be impressive, impacting<br />

on both manpower and equipment costs.<br />

TMHE believes that environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of good business practice.<br />

In line with the <strong>Toyota</strong> Industries Corporation (TICO) Environmental Action Plan we design-in<br />

environmental improvements to our equipment and processes to limit environmental impact<br />

throughout the four product life cycle stages: development, manufacturing, operation and<br />

recycling. Technologies currently being evaluated are designed to maintain the excellent<br />

productivity and performance of our products.<br />

TMHE’s production centres in Ancenis (France), Bologna (Italy) and Mjölby (Sweden) are all ISO<br />

14001 certified. With its emphasis on eliminating waste, the <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Product</strong>ion System (TPS)<br />

helps to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing activities. CO emissions,<br />

water consumption, waste-water generation and landfill quantities have all been reduced,<br />

while recycling levels for packaging, water and scrap have been raised. Hazardous substances<br />

and air pollutants have also been reduced.

In addition to an extensive range of emissions-free electric warehouse equipment and<br />

counterbalanced forklifts, TMHE uses catalytic mufflers and diesel particulate filters for its<br />

engine-powered trucks. All engine powered forklifts and towing tractors comply with the<br />

latest European Directive 97/68/EC emission exhaust emission standards.<br />

Moving towards the creation of a recycling-oriented society, <strong>Toyota</strong> <strong>Material</strong> <strong>Handling</strong> is<br />

continuously raising the recyclable level of its products at end of life. The <strong>Toyota</strong> Tonero<br />

counterbalanced forklift is 99% recyclable, while recyclability levels of reach trucks and hand<br />

pallet trucks exceed 90%.<br />

The TPS principle of jidoka builds quality checks into each step of the production process. By<br />

ensuring that all processes are visible, jidoka helps ensure that abnormalities are made visible<br />

and addressed immediately.<br />

Maintaining quality throughout the production process has helped to build its reputation for<br />

quality. TPS empowers each <strong>Toyota</strong> team member to check for quality, to point out and fix any<br />

inconsistencies or defects, and to prevent inferior quality products from being passed on to the<br />

The BT Optio H-series is an all-new range designed from the ground up to be the optimum<br />

choice in all customer applications. There are two variants: the OME100H for standard highlevel<br />

in order picking systems<br />

Order picking is labour-intensive and can represent a considerable cost in any distribution<br />

system. Building on BT Autopilot technology and integrating it with voice communication<br />

and warehouse management systems, BT Automated Order Picking (AOP) can revolutionise<br />

the process, increasing productivity by up to 40% and therefore substantially driving down<br />

costs. BT AOP uses standard trucks with added automation features and is both scalable and<br />

flexible, and able to work alongside manual processes. Cost savings mean that the concept<br />

offers a fast return on investment.<br />

The concept is simple. The people in the process are only required to transfer each item from<br />

Speed reduction when cornering<br />

If SAS senses the turning speed is too high, it overrides the driver’s instructions and automatically<br />
