5. Po Lin Monastery<br />
The largest of Hong Kong’s Buddhist temple and a major<br />
point of pilgrimage for Hong Kong’s Buddhists. More than a<br />
century has passed since <strong>the</strong> founding of Po Lin Monastery<br />
and <strong>the</strong>re is much <strong>to</strong> see with its various figures of gods and<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r colourful manifestations of <strong>the</strong> Buddhist religion.<br />
2. Tai O Fishing Village<br />
For a look at a rare example<br />
of a traditional fishing village<br />
this is home <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tanka<br />
people, a community of<br />
fisherfolk. Their homes have<br />
been built on stilts above<br />
tidal flats for generations<br />
and very little has changed<br />
over many decades.<br />
6. Giant Buddha<br />
The world’s tallest, outdoor, seated<br />
bronze Buddha sits serenely a<strong>to</strong>p<br />
<strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong> plateau amid <strong>the</strong><br />
spectacular mountain scenery<br />
of Lantau Island. The eyes, lips,<br />
incline of <strong>the</strong> head and even<br />
<strong>the</strong> right hand (raised <strong>to</strong> deliver<br />
a blessing <strong>to</strong> all), combine <strong>to</strong> lend<br />
great depth of character and<br />
dignity <strong>to</strong> this extraordinary statue.<br />
4. <strong>Ngong</strong> Pong Piazza<br />
The piazza has four components, namely<br />
New Pai Lau, Bodhi Path, Di Tan and<br />
Chinese landscaped garden. Its design<br />
complements <strong>the</strong> traditional Buddhist<br />
architectural style of <strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong> and<br />
integrates with <strong>the</strong> local religious ambience.<br />
Lined on both sides of Bodhi Path are statues<br />
of <strong>the</strong> “Twelve Divine Generals” regarded as<br />
protec<strong>to</strong>rs in Buddhism.<br />
3. Tai O Boat Excursion<br />
To enjoy <strong>the</strong> charming views of stilt<br />
houses built along <strong>the</strong> banks of Tai<br />
O’s waterways, why not go on a<br />
boat ride? Make your next <strong>to</strong>p<br />
out in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> sea <strong>to</strong> observe<br />
<strong>the</strong> General’s Rock <strong>to</strong>o.<br />
You could be catching a<br />
glimpse of <strong>the</strong> Chinese Pink<br />
Dolphins if you are lucky!.<br />
7. <strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong> Village<br />
<strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong> Village is set on a 1.5 hectare site on Lantau Island,<br />
adjacent <strong>to</strong> <strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong> Cable Car Terminal and <strong>the</strong> Tian Tan<br />
Buddha Statue. It has been architecturally designed and landscaped<br />
<strong>to</strong> reflect <strong>the</strong> cultural and spiritual integrity of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ngong</strong> <strong>Ping</strong><br />
area. It boasts <strong>the</strong>med attractions - Walking with Buddha and <strong>the</strong><br />
Monkey's Tale Theatre - as well as a diverse array of retail, dining and<br />
entertainment experiences.
