DESIGNERS<br />

Stephen Burks<br />

Stephen Burks and his New York studio, Readymade Projects, have been responsible for creative design direction on projects ranging from<br />

retail interiors and events to lighting, furniture and industrial design. He has developed innovative concepts for renowned international brands<br />

as well as continuing his commitment to sustainable design in the developing world.<br />

He studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Design, as well as attending Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture.<br />

Stephen is now one of the most recognised American industrial designers of his generation. Stephen and his studio have produced work for<br />

clients such as B&B Italia, Cappellini, Calvin Klein, David Design, E&Y, Missoni, Moroso and Vitra USA.<br />

Ed Carpenter<br />

Ed originally trained as a sculptor at Kingston University before starting work as a designer. Following a successful two years of design projects<br />

including furniture and several interior design commissions Ed went on to study at The Royal College of Art, under the Professorship of Ron<br />

Arad. Since establishing his design office in 2002, Ed has worked on a wide range of design led projects both individually and collaboratively<br />

with fellow designer André Klauser, as one half of Klauser & Carpenter.<br />

Clients include Established & Sons, Authentics, Thorsten Van Elten, Elmar Flötotto, VG&P and Muji.<br />

Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune<br />

The Swedish design partnership Claesson Koivisto Rune was founded in 1995 as an architectural office but is, in the classic Scandinavian way,<br />

multi-disciplinary, practising both architecture and design.<br />

Amongst their commissions are houses such as the Sfera Building in Kyoto, interiors such as the Operakällaren restaurant in Stockholm, as<br />

well as designs for manufacturers such as Cappellini and Littala.<br />

Their work has earned them numerous distinctions and awards, amongst them the honour of being the first Swedish architects to be exhibited<br />

in the Venice Architecture Biennale (2004).<br />

Monica Förster<br />

Monica Förster, creater of some of the most internationally renowed objects in contemporary Swedish design today, is based in Stockholm but<br />

grew up close to the artic circle in the very north of Sweden. Her work is categorized by a strong sense of pure form mixed with a never-ending<br />

curiosity for new materials and technology. Always trying to work in a cross-disciplinary way, she invents and renews typologies in industrial,<br />

furniture and object design.<br />

She has been awarded with Excellent Swedish Design, Design Plus in Germany, and was awarded FutureDesignDays Award 2002. She<br />

has also been represented in the International Design Yearbook. Monica Förster design studio works worldwide with clients such as Poltrona<br />

Frau,E&Y Japan, Offecct, David Design, Nola, Väveriet and Skruf.<br />

Sam Johnson<br />

Sam Johnson studied furniture and product design at Ravensbourne University and graduated in 1998. He has worked for a number of<br />

independent designers and consultancies before setting up his own company in 2001.<br />

His products have been short listed for both Muji and The Peugeot design awards and has exhibited in Tokyo, Paris and London. His work is<br />

currently sold through London based distributor Thorsten van Elten.<br />

Most recently Sam co-founded the design collective ‘Shift’ of which Morph UK have become an important member. The group’s recent exhibition<br />

‘Time:frame’ resulted in Sam and Morph collaborating to produce the ‘London’ and ‘Domino’ ranges.<br />

Pearson Lloyd<br />

Pearson Lloyd is an award winning multi disciplinary design consultancy based in Central London. The studio’s work focuses on design for<br />

manufacture and strategic research in the fields of furniture, transport design and the public realm.<br />

Recent projects include the new First Class Seat for Virgin Atlantic Airways launched in July 2003, and projects for Artemide, Knoll International,<br />

Magis and Walter Knoll. PearsonLloyd has won numerous awards through out Europe for their work and were voted the FX Designers of the<br />

Year 2002.<br />

Patrick Norguet<br />

At age 30, Patrick Norguet attended the École Supérieure du Design Industrial using his already extensive knowledge of productions<br />

techniques to great effect.<br />

In 1999 he launched the Rainbow chair at the Paris furniture show where it was spotted by Giulio Capellini, who produced it the following<br />

year.<br />

Patrick has a pragmatic and practical approach to design and since arriving on the scene has produced many varied and critically acclaimed<br />

works for the likes of Cappelinni, Artifort, Thonet, Silvera, Frighetto, Lapalma, Tronconi & Livit.<br />

Most recently he has won the Wallpaper, Designer of the Year 2009.


Paolo Notaro<br />

Paolo Notaro graduated in Industrial Design at Politecnico di Milano University in 2002.<br />

He worked for MOMO Design before moving to London where he worked as Project Manager for Michael Sodeau Partnership.<br />

Then started his independent career as a consultant for <strong>Modus</strong> Furniture and other companies such as Morey Smith, Architecture and Design,<br />

Windmill furniture, Blue Line and Antoine Sandoz.<br />

Simon Pengelly<br />

Simon Pengelly was born in 1967. Originally trained at the bench, he was an award winning cabinet maker before graduating from Kingston<br />

University in 1988.<br />

Clients include notable furniture companies such as Isokon Plus, Lapalma, Montis, Hitch Mylius and Arper.<br />

A pragmatic approach to problem solving and an affinity with materials and manufacturing processes, combined with a<br />

passionate desire to create production furniture with ‘soul’, has resulted in award–winning furniture that contains a wonderful<br />

mix of understated design and clever engineering.<br />

Christophe Pillet<br />

Born in 1959, Christophe Pillet graduated from the Decorative Arts School in Nice in 1985, Master of Domus Academy, Milano, in 1986.<br />

His first pieces of furniture were produced by XO in 1991. He has been working independently since 1993.<br />

Christophe engages in many fields: product and furniture design, interior decoration, architecture, scenography and artistic direction.<br />

He has produced projects for clients such as Cappellini, Daum, JC Decaux, Driade, Ecart International, Loréal, Lacoste, Moroso, Porro,<br />

Renault, Serralunga, Shiseido, Shu Uemura, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin and Whirlpool.<br />

Jonathan Prestwich<br />

Jonathan Prestwich spent six years as chief assistant to German designer Burkhard Vogtherr in France. He managed projects ranging from<br />

residential furniture for Arco (NL) to office furniture for Fritz Hansen (DK) winning ‘best of Neo Con’ and the ‘Red Dot’ design award, amongst<br />

others.<br />

Since 2003 Jonathan has lived and worked in London as an independent design consultant. He has worked with several highly respected<br />

furniture producers, researching and developing new products.<br />

Influenced and driven by the relationship between modern technology and nature, with a goal to create simple elegant innovation.<br />

Michael Sodeau<br />

Michael Sodeau was born in London in 1969. He studied product design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design where he graduated<br />

in 1994. He was a founding partner of Inflate, and set up his own design studio Michael Sodeau Partnership in 1997.<br />

Michael has designed for several international manufacturers including Abet, Anything, Asplund, Bute, E&Y, Gervasoni, Isokon Plus, Liv’it,<br />

Offecct, SCP, Swedese, Thonet Vienna, Tronconi and Wedgwood, and has exhibited internationally with solo shows in London, New York,<br />

Stockholm and Tokyo, with a retrospective show in Paris.<br />

Michael also has designs in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a book about his work entitled ‘Once upon a line’<br />

and edited by Alexander Payne was published in 2000.<br />

Morph<br />

Morph uk was established by Bill Holding and Ben Cox in 1999. With common interests across the creative spectrum and a like-minded<br />

approach to design, it was natural to start working together professionally.<br />

Their wide-ranging interest in all things creative are reflected in the scope of projects within which they became involved: Luxury products for<br />

Marc Jacobs, shop interiors for Manderina Duck with Michael Young, lighting with Chris Levine, Prada fragrance bottles with David James and<br />

ceramics for Harrods.<br />

Kirsty Whyte<br />

Kirsty Whyte graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2003 with a First Class Degree in BA (HONS) Decorative Arts, where she<br />

specialised in kiln formed glass.<br />

After her degree Kirsty was invited as an international guest student to Kalmar University, located in the famous “Kingdom of Crystal”, in<br />

Sweden. At Kalmar University Kirsty studied Glass Design & worked with companies such as: Skruf, Orrefors and Kosta Boda. Her experience<br />

and design work covers a breadth of products from furniture, lighting, upholstery, accessories and homewares.
