Welcome to our award-winning programme of day tours!
W
e’re very proud to announce that we won the ‘Day Excursion Programme of the Year’
at the highly contested 2011 Coach Tourism Awards! The judges said “Shaws focuses
on clearly demonstrating value for money in what can be a highly competitive market.
This operator has put together a well thought out, comprehensive and imaginative day
excursion programme that offers flexibility and a personal touch.” We were also honoured to
be selected as finalists for the ‘UK Coach Holiday Programme of the Year’ award as well.
So, a big thank you to all our staff for all their hard work and to the customers who travel
with us without whose support we would not be able to put together such a successful programme!
As the cost of living continues to rise, our new programme certainly concentrates on value for money, with
some super new all-inclusive days out (like our City & Village guided tours with lunch included) and some great
bargain fares.
Our West End show programme continues to be a huge success. With prices starting from just £49.50 pp to
include coach travel all the way into central London and a top price show ticket, these trips offer terrific value
(see page 3 for the latest listing and join our E-newsletter to keep up to date with extra departures as they go
on sale). During school holidays, look out for our ‘Family Favourite’ trips which include a free seat if you book
4 people on any trip. You’ll find a coach is probably the most convenient way to travel to the NEC, Olympia,
Earls Court and other major venues, so look out for our departures to special events like Masterchef Live and
the Clothes Show, etc. And, of course, what better way to see the glorious autumn colours than by sitting back
and enjoying the panoramic view from your comfortable coach seat!
LD
required for the three highest priced tickets only.
FREE SEAT FOR
GROUP BOOKINGS!
You can enjoy a FREE lucky 13th seat on any of our day tours by booking
12 places for any one tour at the same time – perfect for clubs and
organisations that are perhaps too small to arrange their own outings.
Please note that for concert and theatre tours, your free place will be for the
booked direct, on our holidays and short breaks – you only have to book
Why not get together with a group of friends and share out the saving?
‘FARE ONLY’ PRICES
Do you have your own tickets for an event – or would you like to visit
friends or family somewhere? ‘Fare Only’ prices are available on many of
our all-inclusive packages, including most of our day trips to London, and for
National Trust, English Heritage and RHS members on any tours that include
award-winning excursions as you like!
LUNCH & AFTERNOON TEA TOURS
Vegetarian options are usually available by prior arrangement – please don’t
hesitate to ask for further details.
A ONE-WAY TICKET?
Visiting friends or family? We’re always happy to offer one-way travel –
although you do have to pay the full fare – and we don’t charge extra for
your suitcase!
KEEP IN TOUCH – NEW TOURS
We often put new tours on sale between our brochure publication dates.
You can have priority booking by letting us have your e-mail address
for our occasional E-newsletters notifying you of any new tours as soon as
they go on sale – or visit the News Page on our website
www.shawscoaches.co.uk. If there is a particular show or event in which
you are specially interested, why not give us a call to check whether or not
we are intending to feature it? If it’s not already on sale, we can then let you
know if we add it later! Excursions that we hope to have on sale soon include
the World Indoor Bowls Championships in January.
St. Omer) as the destination for his next guided tour. Located at
the edge of the Eperlecques forest, this enormous building,
standing 22 metres high and covering 1 hectare, represents a
technical feat of engineering. It was meant to house the first
launching base for the V2 rockets but when construction was set
back by British air strikes in August 1943, it was decided to
transform the site into a plant for manufacturing the liquid oxygen
needed to power the engines of the V2 rockets. During your visit,
Saltaire is a complete 19thC industrial village, built by Sir Titus
Salt, the local mill owner. The textile mills, public buildings and
workers’ housing are an architectural delight and its urban layout
survives intact, giving a vivid impression of Victorian philanthropic
paternalism. Salt’s Mill contains some great contemporary art
(including works by local artist, David Hockney), antiques, books
and a café. You’ll learn all about Saltaire’s history and heritage
during our introductory guided walk (which you can omit if you
prefer) and then have free time to explore at leisure before we
continue to Haworth, the world-famous village that will be forever
associated with the Bronte sisters.
● Coach Seating: Seat numbers are usually allocated in order of
booking but two front seats are held for ‘Registered Disabled’
passengers. We reserve the right to alter seating arrangements where
necessary and smoking is not permitted on board. All passengers
must wear a seat belt where one is available.
● Coach Tickets: You will need to give your ticket to the driver when
you board. Admission tickets for shows, concerts, etc. will normally be
given to you by the driver during the journey.
● Child Fares: Usually apply from age 3 to age 16, but age limits vary
on some tours. Children under 3 can usually travel free if they do not
require a seat on the coach. Children under 16 must be escorted by an
adult.
● Meeting Friends: We always try to park in a convenient, central
location but it is not always possible and sometimes arrangements have
to be amended on the day. May we suggest you plan to meet at a
suitable well-known landmark or café, or exchange mobile phone
numbers!
● Departure Times: During the journey, your driver will give
instructions regarding the time of departure from each stop. Please
make sure you note these details carefully as the driver will have to
leave without you if you are late, to avoid inconvenience to the other
passengers. In this event, we will not be liable for any costs you incur.
● Travelling Abroad: Passports will be required for any excursions to
Europe and we advise non EC citizens to check with the appropriate
Embassy regarding any additional visa requirements. Due to weight
restrictions, there will be limits to the amount of goods you can bring
home and our drivers will advise you of these limits on the date of
travel. Passengers are recommended to be in possession of a European
Health Insurance Card. We reserve the right to change the method of
cross Channel travel at any time.
● Your Health: We recommend you consult your doctor before
undertaking a coach journey of more than 3 hours if you have ever had
or lung disease.
● Pets: Guide and hearing dogs are welcome on board our tours but no
other animals are permitted.
● Cancellations: If you need to cancel your booking, you will need to
telephone us first and you must then return your ticket(s) to us for any
refund that may be due. Cancellations can only be accepted during
office hours and charges are determined from the time that the Firm
receives written notification of the cancellation. We charge a fee to
cover administration and other costs and the following scale of charges
will apply:
Up to 48 hours before departure 20% of total paid
Less than 48 hours before departure 50% of total paid
Less than 24 hours before departure No refund
Please note: No refund will be given for any meal, theatre ticket,
admission charges etc.which are included in the ticket price and are not
recoverable by us. On most tours, if your cancellation is made more
than four weeks before departure, you may be able to change your
booking to another day tour on payment of a transfer fee of £1.50pp.
You are also welcome to pass your ticket to a friend but it is a good
idea to let us know of the change.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
● We reserve the right to withdraw an excursion due to lack of support or
circumstances beyond our control. This rarely happens and cancellation
would usually be made no later than one week before departure. In
such cases your fare would be refunded in full and this would be the
limit of our liability.
● All special offers are subject to the firm’s rules and conditions that are
currently in force and all day excursions are operated subject to our
standard terms and conditions of carriage, a copy of which is available
from our office. We must reserve the right to pass on any increases in
costs that are outside our control, e.g., VAT, fuel costs, etc.
● It is always our intention to operate an excursion in accordance with the
published itinerary but we must reserve the right to cancel or amend
any excursion, should circumstances make this necessary, either prior to
or during an outing. We cannot accept liability for changes made
necessary by events or actions by persons beyond our control.
● All arrangements made for meals, visits, theatre, etc., and for the use
of road vehicles, trains, or any other means of conveyance operated by
persons or bodies other than ourselves, are made by us as agents for
and on behalf of our passengers and on the express conditions that we
will not be responsible for any loss, damage, injury, delays or
inconvenience caused to or sustained by passengers other than by the
negligence of the Firm and its employees who are under the direct
control of the Firm. Any terms and conditions imposed by such other
contractors through the Firm shall be binding on the passengers as if
they had directly contracted such services.
● Special Care For Disabled Customers: Some excursions involve
long journeys and lengthy walking and some visitor attractions
(especially theatres) may have steps and no lifts. We always make a
special effort to help disabled customers and if you tell us about your
disability before you book, it will help us to help you. Our drivers are
happy to provide general assistance to passengers but will not be
expected to provide assistance that extends to the bodily lifting and
carrying of any passengers, nor to act as carers for any customer during
the tour. Two front seats are reserved for a Registered Disabled
passenger and their companion on each tour. We are happy to transport
wheelchairs, walkers and scooters, at your own risk, as we cannot be
held responsible for any damage to them. Due to Health & Safety
legislation, passengers must be wholly responsible for loading and
unloading, assembling and dismantling their scooters (into no more
than five pieces) and each piece must weigh less than 40 lbs.
● In order to comply with Health & Safety Regulations, any customer
wishing to board the coach with items other than normal hand luggage
or suitcases, must obtain authorisation from us at the time of booking.
We reserve the right to refuse permission to board if we consider a
passenger has any items or equipment that will be detrimental to the
health and safety of our staff and/or other customers. Our drivers are
not permitted to take any action that may put at risk their health,
safety, welfare or the legal requirements for a break in duty.
● Mobile phones: If you have to use a mobile whilst on the coach,
please keep your conversation as quiet and as brief as possible to avoid
distracting your driver and to minimise disturbance to other passengers.
● Complaints: If you have a complaint during a tour, please inform our
driver in the first instance and he/she will do his/her best to assist
you. If you wish to make further representation on your return, please
write to us within 21 days after the date of travel. We regret we cannot
deal with any complaints received later than this time.
